RPI IV: Is it time to "Neal"' & pray. Of course, using some of the aforementioned logic in thread titles, Matt Neal would probably be red-shirted a week after :(

I think that Ruth Bader Ginsburg has him beat too. :p

I recently watched Kennedy and Scalia in front of a Congressional committee...Scalia had everyone entertained (at times howling)...and, more importantly, provocatively informed...

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part III: Our Goal is to be Offensive

Missed the game-but read the score thread and saw the box score. Kotyra did his usual thing-he always seems to put us down 2 men for an extended period of time at least once if not twice in a game. Especially when the game is still on the line with a close score. Obviously we were not the better team today and perhaps the penalty calls had othing to do with the outcome. But our record with him as one of the refs is just abyssmal. We really have to use this break now to get ourselves healthy and hope for a better second half to the season. Go Red!

Just got back, and here are some of my thoughts:

The second RPI goal (McGowan's) was an absolutely BEAUTIFUL rebound and really shows the team why we need to be shooting and crashing the net. The LeBoeuf penalty I can't even explain. I don't even know where the unsportsmanlike conduct came from AT ALL, but no idea what the original penalty was all about. The fifth Union goal was one of those freak goals, and I have no idea how it went in. It came off Merriam's stick, I'm not sure if it hit Bailen or not.

It almost seemed like, after the two minute 5-on-3, we once again just gave up on ourselves. No real desire anymore. It almost seems like our issue this year is choking from frustration, and the guys look like they need a way to stay loose out there.

Tough game for RPI, obviously. Too many penalties, and Union's a pretty good team. But the thing that stood out for me from this game was the effort by Lee. Fun player to watch.

Lee, Laliberte, and McGowan. Everyone else, not so much.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part III: Our Goal is to be Offensive

January 22nd started "We Still Have Allen York. Sorry, Everyone!" and we went 5-3-1 (or 4-3-1 depending on when you count from the start or final result determination of the game) during the existence of the thread.
February 22nd started "The 'Chase' to AC & Beyond" and we went 1-4-1.
The rest of the season was 14-6-3 (or 15-6-3, once again based upon the previous dependency).

During the time this year in a thread FlagDUDE08 started (10-10-11 thru 11-9-11), we went 0-7-0.

RPI Part IV: This thread wasn't started by FlagDUDE.

I agree with your last paragraph. They get themseves in trouble because they are playing hard and hitting hard and the referees are not allowing it.
LeBoeuf's penalty was a crosscheck near the goal crease. I have seen it called both ways, but we always seem to get the penalty. I have no idea where the second penalty came from.
My main problem with this team is a lack of a second gear. We score the tying goal and nothing positive happens after that. We don't kick it up a notch and usually take a penalty to put ourselves in a hole.
I don't know if this is talent, or a lack of leadership on/off the ice, or just that SA wants his team to play at the same level all the time.
We are the only team I have ever seen that does not get pumped up after a big goal.
We need to get it figured out before January.

The second penalty was a bench minor for whatever Coach SA yelled at the official, which is an emotional reaction. Discipline was a problem with both the coach and the team during a critical moment in the game. Coach needs to also adhere to his own words in The Record where he states that the team has to play with emotion, as opposed to playing emotionally.

He must have yelled it pretty loud too, Kotrya was all the way across the ice at the penalty box when he turned around and signaled the bench for the penalty.

I'm sure he got a pat on the back from His Master...Mr. Paul Stewart.

Kotyra would have heard SA even if he did not say anything. In my mind he has just about reached Mike Noeth status as far as RPI hockey is concerned.
