RPI 2011-12 Part III: Our Goal is to be Offensive

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part III: Our Goal is to be Offensive

Kotyra would have heard SA even if he did not say anything. In my mind he has just about reached Mike Noeth status as far as RPI hockey is concerned.

Come to think of it, he called the unsport VERY quickly, and didn't even look over at the bench. Now that I remember the play, near the goal (stick side), he very firmly planted the Union player where the Lord created a split. It was on the far side, so I couldn't tell if there was an elbow or if it could have been misconstrued as interference. In the box score, the penalty is "checking". I kid you not, here's the proof: http://collegehockeystats.net/1112/boxes/mrenuni1.d10 (EDIT: Appert says a cross-check, I can buy that, and that should be called.)

Earlier in the game, Cullen was called for a legal check.

SA always says the right things, now he has to get his team to grow up and stop taking all those penalties.
Very interesting what he said about the bench penalty. I thought that it would be 5 on 3 when it was called, but they tacked it on the the crosschecking penalty.
Just makes you wonder.

I had thought that maybe it was something that Guy did after hitting the guy. Like I said, I was on the far side of the ice so I didn't see the action all that well, but the ref didn't even turn before making the T (the signal for unsportsmanlike conduct). I honestly thought it was a timeout because there was a significant break in the action. But if it was on someone other than Guy, it should have been 5-on-3, similar to what happened when Jack Parker was assessed a penalty in the RPI-BU game last year.

That's the only logic that makes sense except for the fact that ECAC refs do things that don't make loigcal sense.

Not logical...expected. You know that Paul Stewart and his boys have it out for SA. Now they get the opportunity to kick him when he's is down. The rabbit ears that the ECAC officials have come right from the top.

C'mon now AD, I totally disagree with this being logical! I'm not an official lover, but I hardly think that this is accurate. It is when you're down that you get more emotional towards the call of officials than you otherwise would.

Even now I'm getting slightly annoyed with the anti-ref sentiment. And that's saying something, given my stance on the situation.

Refs or no refs, it wouldn't have mattered. Union still scored in the third (with a goal that was basically an exclamation point to the first half of the season we've had), and we still played flat in the third. The penalties we took towards the end were warranted, and there's no excuse.

You should have been near the students section at the RPI-Clarkson game a couple years ago where we cussed out Kotyra. And that was after a WIN...

I'm getting annoyed at your pro-ref sentiment.

To my good friend sk8tronthepond, I proffer for your consideration the following outrage to prove my point.

And that was last season. It's a brand new season. I know things aren't always in our favor, but until something comes out, I'm going to give them a clean slate. Granted, some have dirtied the slate very quickly (I won't mention any names)...

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part III: Our Goal is to be Offensive

And the powers at RPI have every chance to make a stong case to get out of this league. If they don't - shame on them.

The grass is always greener on the other side. What if we get to HEA and find a worse situation, are you going to clamor for RPI to go back to the ECAC?
