Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

I am one of those who questioned some of the times we pulled the goalie(especially when down 3-0 or when we are a man short). But tonight i question why we did not pull the goalie when down 3-1 and we had a full 2 minute power play with about 4-5 minutes left to play. Just looking for a little consistency I guess. I am not sure anything would have made a difference though tonight-we played a very poor second and third period.

Doc, you give them too much credit for the first period. We did not play well all game.
No offensive pressure all night. We lost all the battles against the boards and once again, the only reason we were still in this game late in the third period was because of our defense and goaltending.
Very frustrating.

I know that I used to get my hair cut by Clem Zotto when I was in school in the late '60's.

IIRC, the barber's son, Clem Jr., was the basketball coach at Troy High. He had some terrific players there, including Luther Rackley, who went on to play a number of years in the NBA.

Clem's grandsons own the "Pine" Clem senior had a brarber shop on 15th st (a little convient store is there now) Gene Travers Shop was on Hutton St between 15 and 14th streets. Bldg is gone now. Parking for the Pine.
Clem's son Clem jr had one of the best High School b ball teams in the country There was a planned matchup with Power Memorial Kareem Abdul Jabar played at Power. It never happened.
Anyway Gene had the hockey memorabila at his shop on Hutton.

Dr. D, in the case of a power play, the other team is allowed to ice the puck at will. Therefore, there's more of a chance they could shoot it into the net from the defensive zone. At least with 6 on 5 (or 5 on 4), the other team must get to the red line before trying for the goal, or else risk icing.

But in the past, coach SA has indeed pulled the goalie when on a power play and down by a couple goals-and much earlier in the game than this time. I am just puzzled. If you believe in pulling the goalie aggressively, as was said in a recent interview, then why not in the situation we saw last night? As far as worrying about the opposing team icing the puck into the net-that did not seem to bother SA in an earlier game when Lee took that late penalty against CC and he pulled the goalie. Not trying to make this into the biggest deal-just a bit confused about when SA feels it is appropriate and when it is not to put that extra man on the ice and take the risk of an empty net against.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

For the football fans-RPI came back from 21-0 and 28-7 to defeat nationally ranked Hobart 29-28 in a completely impossible game. No way to describe the excitement as RPI shut down the Hobart offense the entire second half. I have followed RPI football for as long as I have followed RPI hockey and I honestly cannot remember anything like this. Congrats to a hard working, nevr say die, RPI team. Now let's have this rub off on our hockey team and get the same kind of results. Go Red!!

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

So I wonder if anyone cared to notify the team that the regular season has started. Just an awful weekend all around. Hopefully the upperclassmen take a hard look in the mirror and decide now what they want out of this season before its too late and start showing up. This team cannot rely on freshman no matter how highly touted they were coming in or else they are in big trouble. I really cannot accept the "oh its the North Country" line anymore, if we move to HEA will the line become " oh its Boston"...sorry to rant and rave but its like this team has taken 2 steps back from the progress it made last year.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

Didn't catch tonight's game but last night the scoring opportunities were 29 to 10 in favor of Clarkson. After tonight, this team has made history as the worst start in school's history!!!

Just got back from SLU. The good news: I'm glad my presence (or lack thereof) is not the jinx.

The bad news: We couldn't get a darn thing going. The beginning of the 2nd period was exactly the same as the beginning of last year's 1st period. Difficulty breaking the puck out, nothing going on the power play, it just disappoints me.

It's only November, and we still have 4 months to go, but the worry is very slight at this point. Not enough to hit the button, though.

Thanks for filling in the blanks, Beman :). Just got back from taking the little lady out to dinner to find us on the losing end, yet again. These offensive woes really have me scratching my head but feel that we just need to be patient with this team. There is simply too much offensive fire power for this team to continue the way it is...what it takes to put it all together, I have no idea, I'm not in the locker room...perhaps it's just time. Hopefully it's just time...

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

what progress?

NCAA at large bid, 20 win season, consistently in the top 20 last year, hobey baker finalist last two years, beat #1 team in the country, last year's starting goalie playing in the show, nationally recognized recruit class, upgrade at HFH ...
