I think FreshFish was commenting on the "conventional wisdom" of pulling the goalie with one minute remaining on the clock while statistical analyses have shown that pulling the goalie with three minutes remaining is more advantageous.

And, he's fairly accurate.

Exactly. Thank you.

We're up to five cable broadcasted games! NBC Sports (previously Versus) adds two games (Dartmouth on January 6th and Cornell on February 3rd). Considering there are only 12 total regular season games broadcasted by NBC Sports, it's pretty surprising we ended up with a pair! Also, our game against Dartmouth will be the first College Hockey game ever broadcast on NBC Sports!

Tom tweeted about it earlier, but here's a link:

From a TV person's perspective, I'm really excited to see NBC Sports' setup in the field house. I've actually be sitting on this news for around a month, glad it finally went public so everyone can enjoy it!

Friday's game vs. CC is now on rpitv.org, and the new HD looks really sharp! Thanks to you and your crew for all your hard work, RHamilton!

Thanks for watching!

Saturday's game had a recording device problem, but I'm going to upload it anyway. The video was dropping frames, which causes noticeable skipping/jumping. It also caused the audio to become massively out of sync (up to about 12 seconds at its worst). It's a shame too, since I feel Saturday's game was one of out top broadcasts. The Friday game was okay, above average, but if you watch the scoreboard clock closely you'll see it has more than a mind of its own. This was fixed for Saturday (and permanently, we hope). We also didn't have the catwalk camera shot on Friday.

:D

Everyone bring everyone you know to these games. Let's pack the house for that TV audience! If only the freakout were on Feb 3rd instead of Feb 4th... but hey, I'll take any direct-to-national-TV exposure we can get!

Thanks Notre Dame for making this happen :p

USSR didn't pull the goalie in 1980 vs. USA when down 4-3. They lost.
Starategies change in tournaments where goal differential or goals against can be a tie breaker. If the US had failed to win their final game (against Finland I believe) then USSR would have still won the gold.

This is true, but the USSR had scored enough goals against Sweden (9-2) to make up the difference. If the USA did not beat Finland, the USA would have won bronze, and Finland silver, with the USSR getting gold, all on points alone (I believe Finland would get the tiebreaker over the USA given that they would have beat the USA).

FWIW, assuming no long delayed penalties, Jim Craig was pulled for 24 seconds during the Sweden game (count backwards from when the goal was scored, he was pulled at 59:09).

Oh, ajt6954 gives a ****. I forgot.

My concern was how score differential plays into the players' psyche. I could care less about the scores personally...I know we've had a rough draw thus far and recognize we've been hanging tough.

Did I mince words/thoughts earlier, cloud?

Yes, these guys, who have been playing hockey practically since they could walk, can't stand giving up empty netters. What a brilliant theory.

That's all you've done since jump street.

Oh, by the way... I'm kind enough to use your entire handle when referring to you. You can do the same with me.

Problem with Jan 6th will be no students and most likely no band. Cornell game will look much better for TV.

My mistake, they do seem elated after each occurrence...equally brilliant.

Red Cloud it shall be...dry the tears.

I'm way late in following up on the weekend...but after seeing Diebold in net again, I can't help but think he will put a strong push for consistent playing time. His rebound control was excellent and the kid is extremely quick. My two cents.

Ditto. Very technically sound. Doesn't play shots that are not on goal. Great side to side movement. I agree that we will be seeing alot from him. What a great late find for SA.

I agree that he has shown a lot and is very promising. But, am I crazy or were the first two goals on Saturday HORRIBLE softies? There's no arguing the first one, I think, and the second was a completely unscreened slapshot from just inside the blue line that went near post. Like I said, I'm excited for his strong start and am greatly surprised by the ability he's already shown, but mistakes like those reinforce that there's still a long way to go.

He's still a freshman at a school learning under one of the best goaltending coaches in the country. College hockey is a way to improve; it's not the pros.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

O'Grady playing without a "no contact" pinny in practice (good news for someone coming back from a concussion).

Expected that Higgs and possibly O'Grady will be back on Friday.

Less expectations for Neal and Laliberte to be back.

All per WaP's podcast with Weaver.

Yes.

But, it doesn't make sense to gush with praise without acknowledging the bad that comes with the good. That's part of getting better. If Diebold's - or any RPI player's - response to constructive criticism was "it's not the pros" I would be quite troubled. I personally just thought that the unfettered praise was unwarranted and ought be tempered. When I've made mistakes, I know that is the approach I always seek to impose on myself.

That goes without saying.
