Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

Does anyone know whether either of this weekends games will be on B2 as part of the RPI season pass?

SLU is on B2 (now America One), but it wasn't clear if they were included in the hockey-only plan this season. It might have been necessary to purchase the all-sports package.

That may be what you know already. :D

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

Both Clarkson and SLU are with America One, so both games can be watch.
I have a hockey pass and both are on my schedule to watch.

Dearest Cloud, accurate...though I'd say I'm more like 85-90% there...having 100% faith in anything/anyone, in my opinion, warrants a proven track record. Appert's been great thus far, but not enough to warrant 100% faith.

Congratulations on outing yourself.

And don't call me "dearest Cloud." That seems pretty perverted.

As for packing it in down 3-1, I was only questioning the act of pulling the goalie considering our lack of success when doing so thus far this year.

I find you interesting. You talk out of both sides of your mouth.

Haha...I find you quite entertaining, especially when posters get out of hand in this joint. Either way, just thought I'd ask some opinions on thoughts I've had on the season thus far...and apparently sarcasm was wasted on my salutation...or just not comprehended. Either way, I appreciate your, and everyone else's, opinion on the team...its great to see so much support!

For those interested, I'll be compiling a bunch of photos of memorabilia of seasons from the '60's and 70's passed down from my grandfather, to my father, then to me. Signed score placards, signed head shots, articles, etc. I'm curious as to where to post them for mass perusal. Does anyone have a suggestion? I'd like to share and think you guys would appreciate :).

Create an online album (like Flickr, or Photobucket, or one of those, someone who doesn't have a photographic memory should pick the best one) and post them there.

Trust me, it was wasted.

For those of you concerned about us pulling the goalie early and questioning the strategy, take a look at the Michigan Tech box from last Friday and you will see evidence of the genesis of the strategy for SA. From my perspective, so long as total goals against isn't going to impact a meaningful tie breaker scheme somewhere then by all means pull the goalie early and get some practice while we are playing non-conference.

I was thinking about that when I read the dueling MTU-DU game threads, but there seems to be a difference. I think that SA thought that there was a chance to tie the game -- Gwoz apparently wanted to teach his team a lesson, at least that is what some posters wrote. When DU was down 4-1, he may have thought that there was a chance to tie up the game, but he left the goalie on the bench when the score became 5-1 and then 6-1. I think that he put him back in at 7-1. Also, that was a conference game.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

In the conversation about when to pull the goalie, I wonder if it is something like the conversation in American football about going for it on 4th down? Perhaps the statistical evidence points to a different conclusion than 'conventional wisdom'?

(the statistical analysis in football is that teams should go for it on 4th down more often than they do; and I think someone posted earlier in this thread a link to someone's work that indicated that teams should go for the extra attacker with more than 2 minutes left rather than wait until the last minute. It would be a radical experiment in aggressive forechecking to pull your goalie whenever there was a face off in the other end, all game long!! PROVIDED that you had a center who won a high percentage of face-offs, at least... ;) )

It seemed to me that part of pulling the goalie earlier in these games might have been to get practice playing that way....and part of it, it seems to me, is to actually make it effective. If you are not scoring 5 x 5, then wouldn't it make sense to go to 6 x 5 earlier instead of later? Of course, if you are 2 for 40 on the power play, you probably first need to address that issue, you generally need to score more with an extra skater no matter what the actual ratio.

You have until 7PM toknight to get your picks in or revise your picks in the ECAC Pick The Standings Contest.

Sounds good...thanks! I was planning on resorting to one of those, but didn't know if there was a spot on here that people usually post pictures. I'll see what I can do about getting something set up within a week and will post the link when ready.

Until then, GO RED!
