Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

I have a few folks to thank: 1)...the sine qua non attendee... TROYBOY for the parking spot and the Van Goh Dutch Caramel (which I did not promote...selfish as I am...); 2) Aspydad (and new Mom Mrs. Aspy for allowing his absence during the mayhem that was ensuing in their household) for the tables and the overall operations support...; 3) Turk181 for the chicken and cookies (you thought of the kids...something I forgot to do), the coke (NO SNIDE COMMENTS FROM THE PEANUT GALLERY!)... believe it or not, "Cuba Libres" were the beverage of choice for the day; 4) JIM (Bob? HAHAHHA!...of Jim and Sherri)...who sacrificed his Valencia orange juice, his vodka and, more importantly, his aged rare Rum to MIXED DRINKS mentioned in #3 ... not to mention his superior bar tending skills...and the rest of the posters, parents...GREAT TIME doesn't describe it...

Special note of honor to Ralph Baer...thank you for coming to the event. It was great meeting you. It was sooooo great to tell posters you were among us and see their eyes light up, then bolt to find you...

There WILL NOT be another gated tail today...parents weekend activities, along with weather threats, preclude us from taking the risk However, this was such a bang-up success, we will alert all to the next one (which will happen in cold but CLEAR weather). I think we've added another tradition to the storied RPI Hockey legend...love you all...Go Engineers!!!!!

NYGuy, spot on as always. I would also add Rogic to the guys who should get kudos. I was glad to see him on our first line. We have to clean up the too many men deals too. On the change we are passing the puck towards the bench which is a no-no.

I'm not sure about anyone else, but pulling the goalie is starting to get to me. I understand the fact that we want to scramble for the tie, but it just seems to be very counterproductive and as a result, demoralizing. A 2-1 game with the #3 team in the country turns into a 4-1 loss. Ugh...I know a loss is a loss, but man...I like our chances to tie it up 5 on 5 rather than pulling the goalie. Am I alone on this?

I hope you guys had fun tailgating...I wish I could've made it!

From my vantage point, it's a risk you should take. Whether it's 4-3 or 20-0, at the end of the day, a loss is a loss is a loss is a loss. When one goal down, you have nothing more to lose by getting an extra skater in the offensive zone and trying to get to overtime. The second ENG, in my opinion, was an unnecessary risk. Two goals in 28 seconds from center ice isn't likely to happen. Obviously we've done it before, but I don''t anticipate it happening again under those circumstances. You have nothing more to lose, though, so the decision is justified.

Had a good time at the tailgate last night. The game was fun too - the team hung in there well and ultimately still just needs to finish, but Howe was tough, once again you've got to give credit to the other guys.

It's a very basic hockey tactic. Sometimes we can pull the goalie in a number of games and not get scored on, we've had a bad luck streak in empty netters and last night's first one was a good example of a bad luck empty netter - dribbler.

Empty netters aren't demoralizing. It's going for it - and being in a position to go for it means you're hanging in there. Plus, I prefer a close game like last night that ends 4-1 on two empty netters, so the twits who do nothing but look at scores can continue to sleep on RPI going into the league schedule, especially with a 1-5-0 record (for those that also look just at records and not at who they played, hello Clarkson).

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

One thing that should definitely be addressed, though, is the 2-for-34 power play. Say what you want about our competition, but that is just plain abysmal. I've only been able to watch one game so I can't make any intelligent statements as to what is happening, but I will ask questions. Are we going back to our 2007-09 ways? Is there no shooting and instead just looking for a back-door pass? Are we not moving the puck quick enough? Are we just up against good defense and not much we can do about it? Even that last question I'm willing to accept.

Penalty kill and process are nice, we seem to have those down, but at the end of the day, if you can't put the puck in the net, you can't win. We had our chances, we couldn't take advantage, we lose. :(

After reading this, I am truly sorry I missed it. but there was no way I could make it.
I saw you between the first and second period and was going to introduce myself, but far be it from me to interrupt a mother having a serious conversation with her son.
I am sure we will meet soon.

You are not entirely alone. SA has to give the team a chance to tie it without pulling the goalie so soon. 2 minutes is just wrong in my opinion.
Let them play until just over a minute is left and then get the goalie out.

Awesome time @ the tailgate. It was a pleasure to meet all the board members and families of the players.Especially nice to meet Ralph I only single him out because that was one of my bucket list items !...and babo what can I say....in the immortal words of Frank Sinatra "Your the best Babe"

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

Bummed I missed the tailgate, haven't read the board in a while, did see RFAlph from a distance, and babo and the BRO as well. Next one I guess. Glad you made the trip RFAlph!

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

Good time at the tailgate last night. I showed up a tad later than I wanted to but still got to try some of the homemade irish cream....can I say awesome. Big thanks to babo for putting this together along with my buddies in section 9 AspyDad and troyboy.

Now to the game, the team had its chances towards the end but could cash in. CC is a great team and the Schwartz boys are outstanding players. Haggerty and Schroeder (not sure if its spelled right) looked good all night and I see nothing but great things from them the next 4 years. Safe travels to everyone tonight heading over to the game, I know I will be leaving a tad earlier from home to make it on time. GO RED!!!!

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

My thoughts on the game: CC is one of the better teams in the country and the played like it.I love their style of play...get the puck and go.The forward line of Schwartz/Winkler/Schwartz possibly one of the best lines in the country where a handful for sure....I thought for the most part we played them well...there were occasions were we had some troube w/their forecheck not necessarily clearing the zone but clearing in an organized manner to generate some offense.I think our defense was outstanding...Pat Koudys was rock solid !...we macthed them speed wise and physicially...the difference IMO was they burried ther chances and we didn't(we had several grade A looks)....That will come !!!...If we make a few adjustment and put forth the same effort tonight I think we will give ourselves another a chance to win.JMO

Could not agree more. Pulling the goalie should be done with the express purpose of getting the goal to tie. 2 minutes is a bit early-most pro teams wait until around the 1 minute mark. I also find no reason to pull the goalie when down by more than 1 goal. Doing it too early or when down by 3 goals is just padding the opponent's stats. I know there are those who will argue the point and i understand a loss is a loss no matter how many goals-but I have not seen many teams do otherwise and there must be a reason for it. Watching hockey 55+ years and we just seem to be doing it differently than anyone else.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

Sounds like I missed a great tailgate party. I'll be back east for Freakout and SLU CCT weekends maybe that would be a good time for another one. Is there a record for most games in a row allowing an empty netter? Agree with Doc last minute and a goal behind.

Appert's not the only one. I remember a women's game with the Sioux and they had their goalie pulled for practically the ENTIRE third period.
