Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

A lot more descriptive than I was-but really saying the same thing. We played a very good first period on the road. Then ND just did what was necessary-and we did not. They adjusted to us and we did not adjust to them. It is a tough learning experience and i hope we gained from it. ND is a very good team-I do not think we are all that far from being a much better team than we showed. The question remains can we adjust to different opponents and make the adjustments during the games coming up that we need to. We just cannot go out there and stick to Plan A all game long-we have got to have Plan B and Plan C to go to while the game moves along. I think I say this every year though.

I didnt see the game, but it sounded as we were soundly outplayed for most it. That said, seeing as how we were without our top three forwards and given that ND has 11 (yes 11) NHL draft picks, I'm not ready to jump off any bridges. I do think we could have benefitted from having Tinordi and Curadi in the lineup...gven the amountof free skating that appears to have occurred. The outcome may not have changed, but those two certainly would have cleared the paint.

Speaking of which, does Lalibert* spell his name with the accent or not? Given the pronunciation and etymology, it certainly seems like it should be accented, but his jersey, RPI Athletics and the student directory leave it out. Does anyone know for sure?

I am pretty sure that his family uses the accent mark at home.

Wasn't that what was used while he was a junior?

Not at Cornwall...

For those who don't regularly check through the list of threads, it is expected to be announced today that UAH is shutting down their program at the end of this season.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

We are right on the cusp...it was exciting being at the opening night for ND's new arena. That may have played into our psyche (I'm scared...is there an accent on that?). One thing that blew me away: Rogic skated the puck down the right side of the ice in front of RPI bench and ND (which has some speed) could not keep up. He is at a different level speed wise. The point about 11 NHL draftees was evident; even though they might not have been bigger than us overall, they seemed that way. The RPI section had some real good representation...Schroeder's family had huge representation...the women can whistle better than men! It was terrific to hear (even though my left ear still rings) and it sounded like there were more than the nearly 40 or so folks in our section. I am embarrassed to say I forget the name of the fan who hasn't missed a game in a gajillion years. He was there in his Engineer sweater and waited to greet the team after. I drove out and back with a stop in Trenton, MI to visit friends. nearly 1700 miles in 2 driving days...needless to say, I was bagged afterwards...

For those of you planning to attend this weekend's games, a few of us have discussed the possibility of tailgating. I park in the medical building lot just below HFH (the lot on the left as you look up the hill at the rink). I plan on setting up shop with a portable grill and a special adult beverage for thread members (password protected) and their guests. Yes Senna! Families included. Anyone who can arrive at about, say, 3pm...we'll tip back a beverage, nibble on snacks and talk Engineering on ice...hope to see you guys (and gals ;) ) there...

I didn't mention Friday as the day I'll be there at 3pm...if it goes well and we decide Saturday as well...so be it!

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

I'm not throwing in the towel on the season at all yet. It stinks that we're at .200 right now, but I look at it this way, look who we're playing out of league: Notre Dame, Colorado College, MSU, Ferris State. All quite decent teams or teams we've never experienced before. Not to put us on a pedestal and say the rest of the ECAC is taking on easier opponents, IMO, out of league, but... that seems to be exactly what is happening. Didn't Miami start out like this last season and then move on to win some ridiculous amount of games?

Keep in mind that the medical parking lot you refer to will probably be crowded on a Friday at 3pm. In any case, I'm there.:)

Guess I didn't think that one out, eh? Well...we can park illegally within the HFH lot until they make us move...

EXCELLENT !! SOunds like we need to maybe sort location a bit, but love the fact that maybe we can all finally get together. Thanks for the family invite...my youngest thinks you're awesome (I'd venture to say that a lot of us who have met you feel that way !). I'll be there as soon as I can (wherever base camp ultimately gets organized).

Can't say this was unexpected. Still, it's a shame that, after trying so hard to develop a first-class hockey program, the school now feels obliged to abandon the effort. :(

I recall reading last year that Alabama-Huntsville has more students majoring in engineering than anything else.

I wonder if any of the Charger underclassmen might be thinking about transferring to a certain other engineering school with a hockey program that's likely to stick around for a while. ;)

Once you're parked in the lot, they won't make you move (or at least that's been my experience in the past).

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

For those planning on tailgating, there will also be women's games at 3:00 both days between RPI and Qpac/Princeton.

My intentions were to go to at least one of the women's games (part of the reason for picking this weekend). My exact itinerary is still being thought out. (I know when I am arriving, just not what I will do.) As I mentioned earlier this will be the first time that I will be at RPI with school in session since I left in 1974. That might greatly affect my usual campus sightseeing tour. :) On the other hand, it means that book store in the Union will be open.

I do of course want to meet the posters, especially those whom I haven't met before. Can we also arrange a time and place to meet between periods? I don't want to post my seat locations, but if you want them, email my address in my USCHO profile. Knowing me, I'll me in the HFH before pregame skate.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

Well, I'll be waving my arms in front of the band. Shouldn't be too hard to spot me.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

Interesting to note that per the current USCHO poll, 5 of the 7 games RPI plays this month will be against opponents that are now ranked in the top 10. (Ferris 6, ND 5, CC 3).
