For those who don't regularly check through the list of threads, it is expected to be announced today that UAH is shutting down their program at the end of this season.

Would be nice to organize a moment of silence before Friday's game. They deserve it.

QFT. Almost suggested it but wasn't sure how appropriate. Given we gave them four games last year, I think any team that has given Huntsville a good number of games should observe this.

I'm working on getting either their fight song or alma mater to play in honor of their program. Unfortunately, it probably wouldn't be ready to play this weekend and it's a while until our next men's home game after that. Definitely something I plan on doing though.

Do we have enough time to drag out Sweet Home Alabama?

It's still in the set (in my set at least), so I don't see why not. The problem with playing it this weekend is that we're not having rehearsal, what with 4 hockey games and the Shoes game at Union.

I don't know if we ever rehearsed Super Mario Brothers or some Kazakhstan song, but that didn't stop us from playing them. :D

Yes, but since we're trying to be at least somewhat respectful it would be nice for us not to be sight reading.

Spot on. If you're going to do it, do it right. It's not like we are playing a game against UAH, where there is an extreme incentive to have it for this weekend.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

Can't say this was unexpected. Still, it's a shame that, after trying so hard to develop a first-class hockey program, the school now feels obliged to abandon the effort. :(

I recall reading last year that Alabama-Huntsville has more students majoring in engineering than anything else.

I wonder if any of the Charger underclassmen might be thinking about transferring to a certain other engineering school with a hockey program that's likely to stick around for a while. ;)
The threat has lingered for a while now. They were faced with completely funding the program on their own, or see it end. That said, thedecision doesn't pass the smell test...made by an interim president who has no ties to UAH or the athletic department...hired gun all the way....The conference realignment following PSU's entry ended their hopes of finding a conference. Too bad.

It only ended their hopes because they didn't pursue any of the available conference options. Which is a function of them having a "hired gun" as their interim president. It all rolls around to: someone in authority within the Alabama university system didn't want to pay money to have their only D-I hockey program continue to participate and did everything they could to end it / did nothing to save it.

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

Thanks to the graciousness of Troyboy and Aspydad, we have a spot in lot D for our tail to gate (that's the lot above HFH and next to the new facility...it has a name that always escapes me...). I don't know which spot it is, but I'm in a gray Escape. I am attempting to secure a special appearance or two but make no promises, as I have no influence whatsoever (and I'm NOT kidding) on the outcome of the request...there could be one young squire for a drive by or a slew of hooligans for a sweep through (or any combination thereof). Ralph: I hope you can make it and if you don't have a rental we'll come get you. I will also email the parents to see if any of them are willing to drop in...that might be nice for all of you to speak with the 'rents... I just wish Doc could be here to make the trifecta complete (yes...Ralph, Doc, and the RPI players are the holy trinity in this...the one continuum that supersedes all others...) I'm really not as concerned with the content of the tailgate as I think we'll all be more caught up with the camaraderie...I'm sure I'll be reminded if I've overlooked anything...we're gonna' have a great year, boys!!!

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

My tail will be gating on Saturday. I'm still not sure if I'm going to be able to attend Friday night's game. I definitely will not be able to get there much earlier than puck drop, though.

babo / AspyDad / Troyboy, thanks for organizing this, and I'll hope to see most of you on Saturday.

PS, Babo, the "new facility" is called ECAV for East Campus Athletic Village.

Well-written and thoughtful, contrary to most of what I read from the TU. I think he put into journalism what pretty much everyone is thinking. I'm excited to see what playing these tough opponents will do for our in-league play down the road.
I think playing tough opponents is very beneficial, but eventually you want to start beating these teams. Same goes for Union, so I'm not being biased here.

We have been trying-we have 2 tickets waiting (I think section 5) but it is looking very unlikely due to an issue with one of our pets. Jenny won't leave her if she is in trouble and we have had to dose her with massive amounts of prednisolone (cortisone that cats can metabolize) on a strict schedule. We had thought we could reduce the dosage to once daily which would at least allow us to get up for one game-but so far it is not happening. If we can, we will-and we know exactly where to find the soiree now. Besides I would hate to miss an RPI victory-and we will win at least one game this weekend!!

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

Hi Everyone - Long time lurker / first time poster....I had originally decided to sign up last week to point out the possibility of a medical red shirt for JL, but it seems now the severity of his injury doesn't warrant that. I hope he and Brock are back in there this weekend!

Perhaps like some of you, I'm torn with respect to the slow start. On one hand it's fantastic to get our young team exposure to the best competition college hockey has to offer...but on the other, non-conference losses, no matter to whom, certainly won't help us on the other end of the season if we've turned things around and are fighting for national tournament consideration. Also, I'm a little worried about how the losses impact the confidence of our freshmen going forward - but I have a feeling Seth knows how to keep their heads on straight...

I try not to think about it...but...imagine the complexion of this team if we had D'Amigo and Pirri as juniors leading the offense and mentoring the younger players. Losing them, in my mind, has been a back breaker for this program - I just hope it bears fruit from a recruiting standpoint (and perhaps it already has ?). Anyway, looking for a big turnaround in the new few weeks - these guys are due !
