RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

Alright. Time for my daily "This isn't related to RPI hockey, but enough different people read this thread and it's related to college hockey in general, so I may as well ask it here" question.

Why does the CCHA not exist according to collegehockeystats.net before the 2004-5 season? For example, Michigan's 04-05 schedule can be found here, but their 03-04 schedule (which should have this URL) doesn't exist. And, on the "All Leagues - Standings" page, the CCHA exists in 04-05, but not 03-04.

Alternatively, I have found the CCHA standings for the 1999-2000 to 2003-4 seasons (go to this site and then click on the individual years, which are links), so does anyone know where I can find a composite schedule of the CCHA's games during those seasons? I haven't found it on the CCHA site yet, it's not on CCHA's wikipedia (not that I expected it to be), and I'm not sure where else to look.

This is the reason why my spreadsheet stopped at the 04-05 season originally. I'm in the process of putting in the 03-04 to 99-00 schedules / results for the non-CCHA teams, but it feels so incomplete and it leaves my heart feeling empty.

I didn't feel it was worthy of a separate thread, I had talked about this spreadsheet here before, and, again, lots of people with lots of historical knowledge read this thread, so I'm hoping that someone can help.

PS, I've emailed info@collegehockeystats.com, but I'm not too confident in getting a positive response, so help would be much appreciated.

The CCHA media guide might have a lot of that information. I have one from a few years back (I think 07-08) that I routinely refer to for CCHA stats dating back to the beginning of the league. When I get home I can check and see what information is in the guide. If they do have a composite schedule for those years I can photocopy that and hand it off to you at one of the CC games. I can also look up any other results that might be of interest. I know they have standings and all time CCHA tournament results dating back to the beginning of the league.

Edit: Here's a link I found to a full online version of last years CCHA media guide. No historical composite schedules unfortunately. If you are only going back to 99-00, you can pull all team results by team from USCHO. Older than that, and you will probably need media guides or internet archives for each individual team. I know all of the team media guides I have contain complete season by season results.

For those interested-tickets are now for sale for the RPI Princeton game in NJ on December 2nd. The site to go to is- http://purchase.tickets.com/buy/Tic...339|203340|203341|227724|228626&schedule=list There is a map of the seating on the site also. It will be crowded as season ticket sales this year were very brisk. Jenny and I expect to be there as always.

Thanks for the heads up Doc. It might be tough to get there on a Friday night. Right now, my daughter is trying to get me to go to Quinnipiac the following night.
Is there any chance you will be able to make the Colorado game on the 28th?

I won't be able to make it to Princeton this year. My wife's birthday is December 2. While she likes hockey, she doesn't like it enough to travel three hours each way for a game.

Hope all the rest of you cheer extra loud to make up for my absence.

I recently realized realized that when I attend the Denver games it will be the first time that I will be there when school was in session since the 73-74 season. Every other time was for the Holiday tourney.

Saving this one for posterity.

Will miss you if you cannot make it-If you do give us a holler. Still working on possibility of the CC games (or at least one of them). If not we may get up later in the season. Looking forward to it.

A trip to Princeton could be the perfect birthday present;). Great restaurants for a lovely dinner-and a great hockey game in an icy cold arena with all the screaming fans. Had hoped you could make it like last year but if not, will catch up with you at another game hopefully this year.

It may, unfortunately, be a painstaking process of going to the website for each member institution and seeing what's available in their archives. For example, Michigan State has this: http://www.msuspartans.com/sports/m-hockey/archive/msu-m-hockey-alltime.html which has results by season for Michigan State, but no dates for when the games were played (aside from by season).

Edit: This looks slightly more promising, if only because it lists dates for when the games were played: http://www.msuspartans.com/sports/m-hockey/archive/msu-m-hockey-alltimeresult.html
Both of those links stop with the 1997-98 season (counting forward), so they are both missing the 99-00 to 03-04 seasons. However, the media guide (Section 5) does contain the information that I'm looking for (even though it would be incredibly more difficult than pulling the schedules off of collegehockeystats, but I'm kind of expecting that at this point).

I hadn't thought of USCHO's team-by-team results. That's probably the best place to head. I similarly checked out the overall CCHA media guide and found it lacking. I would normally go for the team-by-team media guides. However, it's no longer just the CCHA that I need to check. HEA didn't start using collegehockeystats immediately, so there's a couple seasons that I need to pull for those nine teams. The probability that all 21 teams have complete media guides with all of the requisite information is fairly low. The probability that I can parse enough information together is higher than that, but still not very good.

Yeah, if all you need is date, opponents, score, location from 99-00 through present, then going to complete schedule/results for each team on uscho should do the trick. It looks like USCHO is pretty good back to 98-99, and patchy at 97-98. It's not as easy to work with as collegehockeystats, but all the information is there at least. I have a small number of random team/conference media guides hanging around for HE and CCHA, so if you do need something, let me know and I'll see what I can find.

I suggest contacting BU fan Sean Pickett. When we were tracing back the various Belts, he was able to look up most anything. There are of course disagreements between various teams' guides on occasion.

Date, opponents, score, location (home / neutral / away), "game situation" (conference "regular season" / non-conference / conference playoffs / NCAA tournament), number of OTs, conference affiliation of each team, and opposing team's place in conference's final standings (but I've already found this through collegehockeystats / the CCHA / HEA site) for every game.

It looks like USCHO is definitely going to be the way to go with this. Looking at a couple different teams / seasons, it seems to have the appropriate information (and it even does multi-OT games).

Re: RPI 2011-12 Part II: We Like to Post!

Ralph's posting has suffered since he retired.

But he is still miles ahead of most of us.:) I must admit that retirement does change a lot of things. It takes some effort not to allow one's brain to turn to mush. I am fortuante, I have jenny here. She is like an E ticket ride at Disneyworl. Never a dull moment and I just never know what to expect-but it is never dull and boring around here.

Having followed RB's postings for most of the past 12 years I haven't found that he has taken a step backward at all. Typing mistakes, maybe. But factual error? Not really.
