Hate to be the bearer of bad news... but it's Mr. Weaver that writes these, not me.

So, it can be said that RPI will play at No. 6-ranked Notre Dame on Friday night without its top three centers.
Wha? If Joel Malchuk is not in your top three centers (let alone, number 1 or 2), something's wrong with your depth chart.

JL injury will hurt. Although he did not score yet, you could just tell that he was going to fill it up. We have not had weak side presence around the net since BP. Watching him at HFH, he was finding the gaps in O zone and it was only a matter of time till he started lighting the lamp in a major way. Looking for our good Doc to way in. Go Red!!!

AD: Without specifics it is impossible to say how long JL will be out. There are just so many bones and so many places for a fracture in the hand. I am just assuming that it is not a wrist but there are 8 carpal bones and 5 metacarpals in the hand along with the 14 phallanges. You don't see all that many broken handbones with the quality gloves the players wear but it does happen. Any fracture is of course something to be concerned about but we will know nothing without far more detail(which we most likely will never get). A non-displaced fracture of one of the phallanges on a lesser used finger (not index or thumb) might only sideline him a weekend or so. Other injuries can be of much longer duration and of course it depends on which hand it is on for shooting and stickhandling. In any case-this is an injury this team does not need. Hope we can pitch a shutout.

This is truly a bad time to lose a guy you hoped would be an offensive dyanmo. Let's hope none of the injuries are serious and they all come back for the CC series. Maybe a couple of games in the stands will help JL. I hope you are right about him. In the three games he played at HFH I thought he was a non-factor. Aside from the breakaway in the exhibition and one deflection in front I didn't notice him much. This crop of freshman forwards appears to have a good deal of potential, but with most frosh it will take a little time.
The bigger disappointment for me is the lack of offense from the veteran forwards. Cullen and Higgs played well in the home games and generated some chances. Other than those two, I thought the guy who created the greatest amont of offense in his limited time was Justin Smith. These guys played hard and are effective on defense, and aren't going to put up 10 or 12 goals apiece, but they all have to produce something or this team is in big trouble. We are only four games into the season, so no need to panic, but there has to be some sign of life on offense soon.

I missed a game with my post-I still maintain that our defense has only given up 6 goals (in 4 games:o). The 2 Empty netters do not count against our goalies stats and although they count against the defense every hockey fan knows they are a different category of goal against. Our offensive output has been off to an abyssmal start-but as long as we can keep the opponents on average to 2 or less-we should eventually be fine. I cannot imagine too many more games before JL, Neal and Haggerty begin to put up some offensive numbers.

What is the obsession with this group(3/4 posters) trying to drive it down everyones throat that the D is improved and better.

No team in ECAC that has played 4 games or less has had more shots on other teams goal, which means they are getting their chances.

RPI 117
Colgate 106
Clarkson 105
Union 106
St Lawrence 77

ECAC goalie saves to date
Clarkson 118
RPI 104
Colgate 80
Quinipiac 75
St Lawrence 78
Union 72

Goalie save %
RPI 945%
Clarkson 929%
Union 923%
Qunipiac 893%
Colgate 889%
At Lawrence 788%

The facts are that the O is getting the puck on net, the D has let up more shots than anyone and if not for the goalie standing on his head times ten, the team would have lost by an even bigger margin.

Look back over last several years, no goalie in ECAC has ever had a 945% save number. No one.

It is not the D, who is letting up a ton of shots, it is the goalie and his outstanding play.

No clue who played well and who didnt. facts though dont show improvement on the D side but to the contrary, based upon stats/facts it is the exact opposite.

I wasn't able to watch or listen to the games this past weekend, but from what I've seen so far against Acadia and MSU I agree. I think a large part of our problem is that much of our strategy the past few years has been "get the puck to Chase and he'll put it in the net". We have lots of guys who can create scoring chances and get really close, but no one has yet stepped up into the role of finisher. I was sort of expecting it to be Higgs, but for now he's hurt. I think that almost anyone on the team will be able to pull the trigger and score, we just haven't perfected the "right place right time" step yet.
JMHO

Inciteful-over the past many years I think we all can list the few true finishers we have had. Hopefully one or more of the current crop will be able to fill that role. It does seem to be difficult for most freshmen to find that ability quickly at this level.

He did imply that Curadi has played well. :)

He Who Must Be Ignored is merely trying to ingratiate himself to you. If none of us ever respond to anything he says ever again, eventually he will go away and leave us alone.

There is something called 'intermittant reinforcement' in psychology that can create bad habits. Any response to anything from HWMBI will only encourage him to stick around.

Message just posted to RPISPORT-L indicates Laliberte may not have a broken hand but rather a swollen finger which is to be x-rayed to be safe. No way to know for sure how accurate the poster is but it could be a good sign for this weekend.
