Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Chris Heisenberg has changed Luke Curadi from a 2010 or 2011 recruit to a 2011 recruit.

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Audio interviews with Penticton's players http://pentictonvees.podbean.com/2010/03/30/goodbyes-are-never-easy/. Curadi is interviewed at about the 11-minute mark and says he will be back in juniors next season. I guess that CH listened to this.

Honestly, this bodes well for at least one of Quinn or Laliberte showing up. It has more bearing on Quinn since they play the same position, but I would think that Curadi going back to Penticton has something to do with there being some sort of limitation on scholarships that we have available.

I think another year in Junior A can be a great thing for Curadi; as has been stated it is much tougher for freshman d-men to adjust to the D1 game, and moreover Curadi can hopefully focus on the offensive side of his game in juniors and end up in Troy in the ultimate position to succeed, with a complete skill set.

I'm not at all comfortable heading into the season with anything less than 8 blueliners...the season is too long and the risk of injury too great.

We definitely have 5 --JFK, Bergin, Foss, Bailen and LeBoeuf. Add in the possibility of Koudys or Quinn (I'm not convinced given Nick's late season/playoff disappearance), and move Brutlag back and that almost gets you to 7...maybe. Still not enough numbers given the risk of someone getting banged up.

I suspect we'll see at least one surprise D recruit before this is all over...No way Seth goes into the '10/'11 campaign with 6 or 7...one need only look at the trouble Clarkson had competing being shorthanded on the blueline.

and don't forget Beauregard. I too believe that we will get one more because I think that we have seen the last of Brutlag except for on power plays.

If Brut stays at forward ( I tend to agree with you), then we'd need both Koudys AND Quinn to make 7...three being Frosh. Beauregard would make eight. I'm thinking maybe two surprise recruits. :D

This is not helping my anxiety -- and I don't live anywhere near Doc to borrow some of his "private reserve" Vodka. :p

My current thoughts are JFK, Foss, Bergin, Bailen, Leboeuf, Quinn, Beauregard, and one surprise.

If we have less than 8 bonified defensemen starting next year-vodka will not be enough help. I am thinking valium or xanax. For years the ECAC top teams are the ones who give up the least goals-defense is paramount in this league. We already know we will have a pretty darn good offense next year but if we don't have the defense to go with it, well it could be another frustrating season. I hope we hear something soon about defensive players coming-I have a lot of faith in coach Appert's ability to put bodies on this team.:)

I personally believe that Bailen and Leboeuf will fit right in. I thought that Leboeuf looked quite good in the two videoes I linked a few posts back. We just don't know why Quinn wasn't playing late in the season. Remember that he was named his Division's best D in 08-09. I do think that we will still get another defenseman.

I do think that the ECAC schools have to get better offense to compete on the national scene. Cornell can bully their way through similar teams but has been mediocre for years in the NCAA tourney. (Not that we have even reached mediocrity recently. :) )

Edit: As RC wrote. :)

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Tell that to Keith Allain.

There are always the exceptions-and Yale was indeed one of them. But usually fewest goals allowed in the ECAC translates to either the top spot in the league or winning the league championship and getting an NCAA bid. Of course a team can win with just offense-but it just doesn't seem to happen much in our league.

I am thoroughly convinced that SA's goal is not just to win in "our league," and he doesn't believe that "three yards and a cloud of dust" or its hockey analog will do that.
