Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Given the addition of LeBoeuf, if Quinn AND Curadi were to come I think that would make nine blueliners...see below.

There are still several question marks as to who will be on defnse. Besides for Quinn and Curadi, it isn't really sure that Beauregard will be more than an emergency replacement, and conceivably Brutlag will go back to D.

Oh, and what about Zarbo? He only played in one game this year. And Greg B, although nothing concrete, he could be on D also.

Also, there have been other rumors (not posted here) of players who we have been after.

I am still checking the RPI Direcotry, and no one is there yet. :(

Don't expect Lebeouf to protect JL in college when he doesn't do it in Cornwall. Not his game. Think Tom Poti or Ryan Whitney not Pronger. Not to say SA couldn't get more physical play from him.

Security blanket in this sense wasn't in terms of protecting JL - was in terms of encouraging him to matriculate. :D

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

That's a little disappointing given his point production, which is not particularly great. There was a report that he has a great slapshot which is always something nice to have for the PP.

He's Cornwall's #2 point producing blueliner (25) behind only Chris Mason (50)... I would venture to say that 25 is about mid to high end of the league average for defenseman scoring.

Can't speak to Bailen's style of play as I've not seen him play.

Bailen was described to me by people who would know best as "a guy that doesn't get pushed around, he does the pushing." I asked them if Bailen's size would create problems for him on this level (being he's not overly physically large) and I was told that his physicality will come in very handy here and that there's no real concern for how he can take care of things defensively.

I trust this source very well and have no doubts that while Bailen may be a bit smaller in size, he'll bring the sort of game we don't really see out of the guys on the roster. In my head, I made the comparison of Bailen to being similar to Alex Biega of Harvard. He too isn't large but he's a burr in the arse to deal with.

I had Zarbo on my list in Post #358. As for Brutlag, given his success at bringing both physicality and providing offensive energy up front (a rare combo for us), I do not foresee Brian back at D unless we have a major injury epidemic. (knock wood that we do not)

I only added Beauregard as it was told to us that he has been practicing on the blueline...this certainly can't be for this season's benefit. I make no predictions as to his chances of seeing ice time...I was just counting heads.

Given the numbers and skill of the players at forward, I doubt that Kevin has much of shot at cracking the lineup at forward in his senior campaign. I am always willing and happy to be proven wrong!

QFT

And remember that Leboeuf is originally from Florida. That probably sits well with JL. :D

This is precisely how T-Bone has told it to me. He has a good buddy who is B-G hockey alum. He agonized when Nick left town. This guys says flat out that Bailen was the best defenseman on the team. He's done nothing but increase his value with a very good year in the USHL (44 12-21-33 58PIM)

Bailen will be an immediate addition to the corps and given his experience, it would not at all surprise me if he is on the #1 pairing.

I only added my comment about Zarbo to indicate that he may not fit in our plans, and perhaps should NOT be included. It's just more of the murkiness.

I agree about Beauregard.

I think that Bergin, Foss, Kennedy, Bailen, and Leboeuf will be on the team at D next season. The other three positions are question marks for one reason or another.

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

I'm a bit surprised Clarkson wasn't in the mix given their blue line issues due to injuries and suspensions

Can't say for sure that he spoke with them as I didn't see for myself. Coach Roll has been seen on at least one occassion and Coach Dreshel is at alot of the thursday evening games.
I think their interest is more in Eric Ming and possibly the Spink twins.

Tell them to get in line behind Seth & Monty. :D :D

If playing close to home means anything to Spinks and Ming then I'd say Clarkson could have the upper hand. Having said that, RPI's really shaping up with all the high level recruits they have landed in the last few years which could translate to winning, which is more than can be said for the Golden Knights lately.

As you probably know, Ming already visited RPI to begin his indoctrination. With LeBoeuf's commit, we now have two agents working in Cornwall. With Clarkson losing Houle (their #1 recruiter) the heat will be on Roll to fill the gap :D

We do know that Ming took the effort to visit RPI and we were mentioned by him in an old article, so that it a plus. There is nothing on the other ahnd to indicate that there is any interest from either side with the twins.

Good point about Houle leaving. That probably hurt CCT a bit.
