Totally agree...huge offensive skill, but his defensive game is way behind. As a small consolation, Seth has got a lot more scholly money to play with...I

The sun's going to rise tomorrow and we're going to have RPI hockey, whether Brandon or anyone else that wants to go are here or not.

I did just check out my window and the Institute is still standing.

Absolutely true! But I'm sure you will allow me a Sam Adams or two and DrD a vodka gimlet or nine tonight. :)

Don't want to deal with the hangover so I'm going to do a sleeve of Oreo's and a tall glass of Milk (I can't help it I'm from Troy)Very soothing you guys should try it sometime !

Gotta rock some Bella Napoli cookies and a tall glass of milk. A few of those and you could tell me anything and I would believe it.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

You can't compare todays game with the game played in the 1950s.
However, you can look at the referees and what they call.
The 70s you were allowed to mug your opponent, the 80s actually was probably the most level for offense vs defense. The 90s for some reason went way to the defensive end of the equation. Now we have gone way to far in the offensive direction.
I would love to go back to the 80s where great offensive players like Bossy and Gretzky and a host of others were allowed to play their games while defenses were allowed to put up some resistance.
The game had a better balance and even though the offensive numbers were way up, the defenses were still allowed to clear out the crease and slow down the rushes, if they could catch people like Savard and LaFleur.
It wasn't perfect, but it was much better than it is today.

I agree IF they'd eliminate the crap that the devils played in the 90's! But the "left wing lock" became the rage and defensive 'lock downs' became the norm. My son even had a pee wee coach instruct him in that system! I am all for a physical game and that hockey should reward grit (and it usually does) but not at the expense of a player's skill and prowess. If a player has his head down...then a good pop will quickly alter that habit. But to continue to ride a player well after releasing the puck needs to be called for obstruction interference (and this is NOT finishing a check which every player worth his salt does). All my point is this...Appert is building a team that will be rewarded by the rule changes and will be successful in that by out-power playing its opponents. Seems to me that its a pretty good approach.:D

Heck, we all want the same thing...

And with BP leaving, even more need to play Appert's system to succeed.

Could someone educate me on how that works with the scholly money if someone leaves. Do they just wipe the slate clean from what was given or do they just take what is left from the scholly and pump it back into the program? Or do they keep the scholly open for the player to come back and finish courses during the summer or something?

Just for the record I'm still excited about the upcoming season. These recent events are not going dim that excitement one little bit. Can't wait to see what the incoming freshmen class looks like and really can't wait for the road trip to Matthews Arena to take in that game at such an Historic venue and kick some Hockey East ***.In short this is over and done with It Is What It Is and its time for ALL of us to get PUMPED UP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

very surprised about this one. Wish him continued success he is a heck of a good players. With kids going Pro it makes the ECAC a tight race again this year.

Anyone seen JL in the student locator? Ha ha....everything's fine....

If he is still in our plans and has taken the SATs, neither of which appears to be certain, it would not surprise me to see him in January. I have had the gut feeling all along that he did not like playing second fiddle to Pirri when they both played on Canada East.

All of the scholarships are given on a year-by-year basis. So, even though D'Amigo and Pirri had large (full?) scholarships last year, the money that they would have gotten for this upcoming academic year can be disbursed throughout the roster.

Or whenever the signing is finalized.

Gut feeling here is that while Chicago wants him to be in the AHL, unless he's put on weight the way D'Amigo did this off-season, I think Chicago might stick him in Saginaw thus making this signing completely insane. That said, the chances of that happening are rather slim and my biggest worries going into this off-season came true in that Chicago's gutting of their roster came to bite us in the butts because they needed to field a team in Rockford.

I think that most of us agree with that. D'Amigo was making great strides in all aspects of the game and I think will play in the NHL for at least part of the year. Although it was reported that BP put on weight and even had to buy a new wardrobe, he didn't look any different in the video for the Chicago camp.

What we don't know (and yes, RC, I know that it is none of my business), is how he did in class. IIRC, he was one of the few RPI players not to make the ECAC All-Academic team.

I doubt grades chased him away from school. We'll find out how much money talks when we see his deal with the Blackhawks. My guess is it'll be similar to albeit a bit less than D'Amigo got.

No argument with that.

Does anyone know if freshman management majors at RPI take a course that preaches "take the money and run"? If so, that has to change. :)
