RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

Has anyone in Troy seen Brandon Pirri yet?

I don't care what anyone else is saying or not saying something is amiss here and the wedding excuse no longer is an explanation that makes any sense. I am not going to panic if he doesn't show and we should brace ourselves for that possiblity and move forward. If BP doesn't want to play RPI hockey this team will do better without him in the lockerroom.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

Go back and look at tapes from when Doug Harvey played and you will notice there was very little clutching and grabbing. Plenty of body checks but very little cheap stuff that ruins the flow of the game. Of course, back then the skaters weren't as fast so it wasn't quite as necessary.

In my opinion there are two interpretations necessary for a well reffed hockey game. Refs need to allow more to slide when the puck in in your own end and especially in front of the net. When it is at the other end and the team is breaking out then obstructions and hooks need to be called. End to end rushes are the most exciting aspect of the game and the rules need to be properly interpreted to maximize the opportunities. In front of your own net or in the corners though and it's old time hockey time!

You can't compare todays game with the game played in the 1950s.
However, you can look at the referees and what they call.
The 70s you were allowed to mug your opponent, the 80s actually was probably the most level for offense vs defense. The 90s for some reason went way to the defensive end of the equation. Now we have gone way to far in the offensive direction.
I would love to go back to the 80s where great offensive players like Bossy and Gretzky and a host of others were allowed to play their games while defenses were allowed to put up some resistance.
The game had a better balance and even though the offensive numbers were way up, the defenses were still allowed to clear out the crease and slow down the rushes, if they could catch people like Savard and LaFleur.
It wasn't perfect, but it was much better than it is today.

Was there an issue in the locker room?

Youtube facepalm? I think I just got served, given my responses to these kinds of posts. But, for the time being, you are correct, RC. No panic needed yet.

...epic...how can you ever beat that?

I was speaking about team chemistry and if there is a player that doesn't want to be there it affects the team and team play so it is just better that they move on.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

stopped by HFH yesterday...the "old" scoreboard is back up. The side boards are up & the glass was being attached. The 2 ends were left open to allow const. equip. to move in & out. The "old" scoreboard was up & hanging from the rafters. Tinordi was there & he was telling me that he was under the impression that most of the work around the ice area was done, scoreboard included. The major portion of the remaining work appears to be the completion of the lux/vip boxes & the front entry. The ice would be in place probably late Sept.

I just received word from a reliable source that the new scoreboard will be arriving while the season is in progress. There's a good chance that it will not be able to be installed mid-season, but we should expect to see it in place by the start of the 2011-2012 season.

Good update as always JC...I have to think that if they take delivery on it, i.e. pay for it, the 'tute is gonna want it in the rafters...ASAP. Not sure why they'd have to wait 6+ months ?? Any installation preparations, wiring, etc. should/could be done now, in advance of delivery.

"Everything is fine"..."He's at a wedding."

Just because an extremely key player has been missing for weeks doesn't mean there is anything to worry about...to the contrary, I can't think of a better way to begin the post-Jerry era, can you? :D

I do think its funny (sad?) that neither of the reporters who cover the team on a regular basis have bothered to follow up on this. I guess they don't want to be barred from K. Beattie's pre-game pizza parties.

We all just need to have another sip of Kool Aid..."Everything is fine"...."He's at a wedding."

Will Pirri be the delivery driver? :D

Ed Weaver did speak to SA http://www.troyrecord.com/articles/2010/08/16/sports/doc4c6a0a50b503c093955031.txt. What else should he have done?

It probably wouldn't work out schedule-wise to put it up, given practices and installation time. However I do agree that it would be nice to have it up there ASAP. After all, the projector in front of Section 1 was a bit, well... primitive.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

That was published 8/16...a week ago... Weaver (and Schott for that matter) by now hopefully realize that the wedding story was a ruse. I'd think the obvious question to Beattie and Appert is: "Are you sticking with the wedding story?" or more succinctly: " Where is he really?"

I believe the upgrade of the scoreboard coincides with an upgrade of the sound system/speakers; both should/would be installed together, but likely not one without the other.

Should we call the next thread Part VI or call it a Preseason thread? Thread title suggestions also are invited.
