Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

OK, then Burgdoerfer last year was better than Dolan will be in the upcoming season.

Holy vague, unquantitative statements, Batman.

That was my point. We have four proven dmen (including Bailen). After that, we have to rely on unproven quantitites. I believe that Koudys could become an All-ECAC Dman and might be our highest NHL dman draft choice ever, but it won't happen overnight.

Four out of six? Do the math, Ralph. Let's not start wetting the bed here.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

I am hoping for good things from Jeff but he needs to be aggresive all season. I thought he had some good games but needs to do it all the time.

I think you hit the nail on the head, but I would extend it to ALL of our players. That is the biggest thing we lacked last year: consistency. I think just about everyone fell into this category, and I would even include D'Amigo. Probably the steadiest players we had were Polacek and Malchuk.

We could have all the talent in the world, and harness that into terrific lines and pairings, but we REALLY need that consistency if we are going to be a powerhouse.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

Well, look at it this way. We saw Marty O'Grady contribute significantly last year. We've seen Tyler Helfrich and Patrick Cullen contribute significantly in the past. We've seen Alex Angers-Goulet put up excellent supporting role numbers over the last two years. We saw Bryan Brutlag provide a boost to scoring when he was moved off the blueline. We saw C.J. Lee do everything but score last season. We saw Scott Halpern have his moments (although he was rough down the stretch). Throw in guys like Brock Higgs, Matt Tinordi, and Johnny Rogic who are coming off great years in junior A, and a solid checking line guy in Greg Burgdoerfer to compliment Joel Malchuk, Josh Rabbani, and Justin Smith to put together a 4th line with some degree of scoring kick to it, and it's easy to see how this could be a strong scoring team.

I see the situation similarly but I honestly think we will get a much bigger upside surprise from Tinordi, Higgs and Rogic than we will get improvement from others. It is possible that all these fellows could have career years but it would surprise me quite a bit to see it happen from all of them. I just did not see enough from Lee, Cullen or AAG last year (and I still think that Helfrich just has not been back 100% physically to his freshman year). I expect more offense than last year in spite of losing JD since I think the 3 entering freshmen we mentioned will more than add up to the stats produced by D'Amigo. Hopefully we are both right-it sure would be nice if other teams had a lot more to worry about beyond Chase and BP. I am very optimistic that this will be a fun year to watch.

Did everyone notice that Ken in the radio interview said that Brandon will be here this year?

DrD have a slightly different take . Upperclassmen are the key to winning especially late in the season. Seth basically said this in several of the things I have seen and heard the last few days. I think PC and TH (if healthy) will be major keys in making up production for JDA. I just think Pat Cullen is going to have a breakout season this year. Don't know why but I do. Whenever I have been around him he seems like a fine young gentlemen and that character will shine through on the ice. I think Rogic and Higgs will be good. They're are part of the good recruiting pipeline that SA has got going now.

Gentlemen, what (if anything) can you tell me about Jordan Watts? Apparently he's transferred to Adrian and I'd like any thoughts you have.

Adrian? Good grief!

We didn't really see that much of him over two years espacially as . He seemed to have speed and some grit but there were a lot of players ahead of him in talent. He didn't score much, but he probably would ahve produced mroe had he got more ice time. He should fit in well in DIII.

Seems we all have different feelings about this. I suspect we will all be surprised by the upside of the current recruits. It turns out we may have gotten the more valuable Tinordi;) and Higgs and Rogic will add some firepower. I don't know how much more we can expect from the upperclassmen-I would hope a lot but I just maintain that last year did not show it. Chase had an exceptional year-I would love to see him repeat it but I just don't know if the opposig teams will allow him any freedom on the ice. In any case, I am more optimistic for this coming year than I was last year at this time and that is saying a lot. :)

Ralph, what's wrong with Adrian? :D

I know very little about Adrian. I just didn't expect him to end up out west. I am sure that others can give you more information about Watts. He seemed to have good credentials coming in to RPI. He just wasn't able to stick in the lineup on a game-to-game basis.

Very quick skater, effective penalty killer, solid shorthanded play. Has a wicked shot although a bit gunshy to actually use it. Nice pick up for Adrian I'd say, he'll flourish in D-III.

Thank you both.

I have that same feeling about Pat Cullen! I also think Tyler will have a great year this year!

I wonder of Rabbani will get #9 back again.

Asking him to give up that number never felt right to me. If he wants it back it is his but I would think he wouldn't want to switch back.

My thought too.

The last time that #9 wasn't used was 66-67. IIRC, it's the longest string of any number.

You seemed to have a pretty reliable source regarding BP-have you asked your source lately?
