Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

RPI Press Release
Sad, but it still doesn't change my opinion. Best of luck to him in Toronto.
All the best to Jerry in his career. If he ends up in Kitchener, though, I'll be a sad panda. :(
Truth
This will most certainly take place if Jerry is in attendance.
Absolutely. I'll be joining in, too (assuming I'm there).
Is that junior game at the HFH? If so... will I need to buy season tickets just to get to that one game?
Yes and no, respectively. I'm not even sure that the game will be included in the (student) ticket package. I know the game vs. the U-18s in 2008 was not included (but it was also free).

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

I applaud Jerry for what he has done and wish him all the best. I hope he has a great NHL career and I can tell people that I saw him when he was just a pup.
But if he comes into the Field House to play against my Engineers, I will certainly not be rooting for him.
I will cheer when he is announced and then he will be treated like every other foe.
Nothing more, nothing less.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

Man, I ignore the off-season thread for a couple months and look what happens... All the best to Jerry. He'll be missed in Troy, but there are enough new exciting faces that it'll be a good year nonetheless.

As for the renovations: I didn't see the pep band conductor's podium in the photos of the "pile of junk" outside the Field House. So far, so good. (Seriously, nice pictures - can't wait to see the place once it's complete.)

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

I wonder if the exchange between the Leafs and Jerry D'Amigo went a little something like this:

Maple Leafs: There it is Jerry, Toronto.
Jerry: It's beautiful. Like no other city I've ever seen. It's like Troy. Only cleaner.

:D

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

Kevin's press release doesn't mention numbers so I am cut and pasting NHL CBA section on entry level contracts

"Entry-Level" Salary Restrictions

* Players between the ages of 18 and 21 must sign "entry-level" contracts for their first three NHL seasons. Those aged 22-23 are entry-level players for two years, those aged 24 for a single year.

* An entry-level player can earn a maximum of $850,000 per year. The limit rises throughout the agreement, to $925,000 in 2011. Maximum entry-level salary in 2004 was $1.295 million.

* Signing bonuses are capped at 10 percent of the player's salary. Under the old deal, signing bonuses for entry-level players were capped at 50 percent of base salary.

* Performance bonuses can be earned at two levels. The first level covers individual benchmarks such as goals scored, goaltender wins, and so on. The maximum a player can earn at this level is believed to be around $850,000 per year. The second level is for much rarer achievements, like winning a major NHL award or ranking among the NHL's top players in a statistical catregory. The maximum a player can earn at this level is estimated at $2 million per year. Performance bonuses under the old agreement were subject to few limits.

* With some exceptions, performance bonuses are paid by the league and do not count against a team's salary cap. But they do count in calculating the league-wide share of player revenue.

Sounds about on par with the numbers quoted here: http://www.thestar.com/article/846872--jerry-d-amigo-signs-with-leafs-could-crack-team-this-fall

$270k signing bonus, $810k/year if he plays in the NHL, $67.5k/year if he's down in the minors, bonuses up to $212.5k/season. If he ends up playing for the Leafs, his salary cap hit will be $1,112,500.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

Sorry to hear D'Amigo is leaving RPI. Now you know how we felt this spring when Colborne, Weircioch and Cheverie left. I guess we were fortunate to get 2, 2, and 3 years respectively. (Chevy being a later round choice may be closer to JDA.) One and done sounds like basketball
I'm sure Seth and the Gwoz had a few coversations about early departures over the summer.

Good Luck to Jerry and maybe someday we will see him playing on the same line with Tyler Bozak. The DU-RPI connection at the NHL level. :D

JA will be missed but if bp steps up and plays stronger in his end.... not so much

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

Today is 12 August 2010. There are 57 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 8 October for the start of next season.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

Jerry D'Amigo will be on a special edition of Slap Schotts Thursday at 9:45 with Ken Schott and Roger Wyland http://tinyurl.com/37n95qh. Too bad that I have an eye doctor appointment at 9:30, but usually these can be heard later in their podcast archives.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

Am I missing someone? These are the RPI players who have left early for the pros.

Darren Puppa 1985 after 2 years
Adam Oates 1985 after 3 years
George Servinis 1985 after 3 years
Kraig Nienhuis 1985 after 3 years, may have used up his eligibility
Brad Tapper 2000 after 3 years
Marc Cavosie 2002 after 3 years
Jerry D'Amigo 2010 after 1 year, our first one and done

Re: RPI 2010 Off-season thread V: Captain Kennedy and the A-Team

Very nice article (assuming that the quotes were actually said this time :p). Only correction I see is that the Engineers beat the Terriers, not the Eagles.

It's fantastic to see the number of quotes from Burke praising D'Amigo's skill and work ethic. I like JDA's chances at making it onto the Leafs' roster this fall.

It was definitely one of Weaver's better efforts. I missed the BC typo, and I was looking for it, since I can't recall a Record article about RPI hockey without at least one. :D

“I’ve got to give credit to Dave Morrison, our chief amateur scout,” said Leafs GM Brian Burke. “This kid has skyrocketed in the past 12 months, right off the charts. He has a high, high hockey IQ, and his skill set is catching up with his brains.”

Asked Wednesday if he thought this was the right decision for D'Amigo, Appert said: "Those are decisions that are left to him, and to Toronto. I mean, certainly, would we have loved to have had him for another year? Yeah. And I think that, over my career, I think the guys that I've coached who have had the best NHL careers have been guys that left when they were ready to step right into the National League, (and) not spend any time in the minors.

"But if any 19 year-old can do it, Jerry can. He's in great shape. He's got outstanding work ethic. And he's a very versatile player. He's not just a goal-scorer, and he's not just a point producer, but he plays the game the right way. He can score, he can produce offense, but he also can play a checking role and be a great penalty killer for you."

Appert added later: "I firmly believe he's going to be a career NHL player, and that's why we're certainly so excited for him and so supportive of him."

Those are the ones I recall-although I thought a defenseman in 1985 left early but I cannot remember who and looking at old media guides it appears they all stayed.
