Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

Ralph: I have noticed this line for a long time-
Toni Sanders F Susquehanna Rapids U19 Red 34-53- 9- 62- 42

How does one go about scoring 53 goals while only getting 9 assists? in all my years following hockey I have never seen such a disparity. Was she the only one allowed to shoot on the team? I have seen players score a lot more goals than assists before but never close to this extent.

46 points in 18 games in a boys league is serious talent.
This is not golf or tennis. She can be pushed around and taken out of the play.
I may have to attend a women's game or two next year, just to see her play.

I think that the change to a no-checking league will be quite the shock for her.

Less than six months until the season starts!

EHF-Wish you were around to see Cindy Acropolis play for RPI early in the days of women's hockey at the tute. That was a young lady who could not be pushed around-if you can find her stats at RPI check out her numbers for goals scored and penalty minutes-she was indeed a colorful young lady and would have felt quite at home now that the program has improved.

I imagine that there was no checking on the Susquehanna Rapids although there would have been on the boys' HS team.

Oops. I thought the ridiculous line was posted with the boys' team. I'll pay more attention next time.

Today is 26 April 2010. There are 165 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 8 October for the start of next season.

Actually, while we're on the topic (though possibly suited best for the other thread listing; I don't know if we have a thread there), is there a preliminary schedule for when the women's team plays yet? Last year I didn't get a chance to see the Colgate/Cornell weekend because it was Freakout, but saw a home game (ironically enough against Cornell) and then the semifinal at Lynah, with quite possibly the highest attendance for a women's game I've ever seen, even though my women's games experiences are quite limited.

I haven't seen anything about the women's schedule for next season.

We do, but it's still the 09-10 season thread. I'm sure that Ralph will flip over the calendar at some point.

is there a preliminary schedule for when the women's team plays yet?

The only thing I have is that the lady Engineers will host Clarkson / SLU on January 7th / 8th (I expect in order, but am not sure). How do I know this? The composite schedule.

Feel free to it. :)
I'll pass. My last attempt at starting a thread ended with me putting the wrong date on the UC-RPI matchup and that game did not end so well. I don't want to jinx the women with an entire season of bad luck.

I'll do it eventually if no one else does.

Apparently not many of the folks on this board have had the opportunity to read a lot of score sheets from youth hockey leagues. The refs are usually very young and inexperienced in youth hockey games. It is rare that they actually are able to identify who assists on goals - let alone take the time to tell the scorekeeper. We often see goals scored by numbers that are not on our team - even though the roster (with numbers) is clearly printed on the score sheet for the scorekeeper to verify. The goal to assist ratio on most of our score sheets is usually at least 2:1 and I'd say 3 out of every 4 assists aren't written down.

I've no idea whether the girls team that she skates on has similar officiating but it would not be a surprise to me. Especially if they insist on using girls or women as refs. Anyone who watched women's Olympic hockey this year can no doubt appreciate the lack of qualified female officials that are out there.

I think you should look at the boys stats to get a good sense of what she is all about. They look reasonable to me. Looks like she is a goal scorer more than a play maker - but not an extreme puck hog.

Good point. Plus, how many total goals has the team scored? That may also be an indicator.

Either way, I'm looking forward to watching her, as well as the rest of the women's team, play. That is, if given my track record in the past couple of years with women's games, I'm actually allowed to attend; I seem to remember a little poking fun about me and away games. :D

86 according to the link. She had 53 of them and assisted on 9 of the other 33.

jm: Thanks for the input-I was just astonished by the line showing all those goals and virtually no assists. Not used to seeing those kinds of numbers. Your explanation makes sense.
