Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

IIRC, Ken Hammond, who played there for a few games, is the only former RPI player to ever play for the NYR.

That's what recall also. I would guess that the Boston Bruins have had the most former RPI players on their roster-but that is just a guess.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

Where did you get those figures from? While I would like to think that RPI is in about the top third of all schools based on spending for hockey, I doubt that it is true.

Ralph someone who knows alot of folks around the game told me and this person is also very knowledgeable about RPI hockey. I did some research and came up with the $413k number out of the Union Annual Report. Does this count salaries for Seth and assistants, recruiting expenses, etc. What about the upkeep of HFH? That number seems low to me. Here is the link -- docs.studentsenate.rpi.edu/documents/556/revisions/current/download

In this report what's the figure for each player 10k? Seems low again. Equipment, lodging, scholarships. I skimmed it so I could be missing something.

Hope this finds you well. always enjoy your takes.

Help him out here RC since you were once a part of this process; nothing else to talk about.

Today is 23 April 2010. There are 168 days (24 weeks) until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 8 October for the start of next season.

It doesn't count many of the items which you mentioned according to previous messages by people who know a lot more about it than I do.

Is anyone here going to the banquet this evening?

Union reports, as previously mentioned, do NOT include staff salaries, as these are controlled by Col. Knowlton's portion of the administrative budget.

IIRC, The HFH is still an auxilliary service, so I'm not sure whether it's the 'tute or an independent party that provides for the upkeep of HFH.

$10,000 per player does sound like equipment, lodging, rink time, team-building events, etc. The scholarships I am 99.9% sure are controlled by the administration, which would be part of the explanation towards your difference between the $413k and $1mil figures, though many of us know that the cost of RPI is much higher, when you consider the number of scholarships (I don't remember the exact number allotted).

There are 18 athletic scholarships.

As RC says, I don't travel. :D

Rumor has it you attended the Lightning Classic when RPI was invited, though. Is this true?

Aside from this, we may have to wait for USMA Annapolis to put together a hockey team before we see Ralph attend another RPI game.

I've tried to keep track over the years and according to my records, you are correct. Seven former Engineers (Carter, Hammond, Healey, Juneau, Nienhuis, Oates, and Townshend) have played for the Bruins.

Ottawa (Hammond, Juneau, Pothier, and Townshend) and Toronto (Dallman, Hammond, Landon, and Puppa) are tied for second at four apiece.

Correct. I also was at the RPI hockey tourney the same year and the year before.

Breaking from the alumni house: TWO recruits will play for Monty in Dubuque next season.

Of course, heads always wins. Even in Canada. :D

Congrats to all of the players on a great year, the first winning season I have witnessed. Here's to more success to the team next year, and to the seniors, terrific careers whether in hockey or other aspirations.
