RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

Got a call today from a guy who scouts part-time for pros and he was in Beantown over the weekend and gave me this report on Higgs. "Above average speed, defintely D-1 material", "Not tall but strong".

Higgs will be fine-perhaps a small learning curve, but he will fit in nicely. Not really worried about offense and forwards at all-well, maybe worried a little about all the guys not suited up each night. ;) A bit more concerned about defense but hopefully we can score 5 or 6 each night and even that worry will be minor.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

I wonder if Rogic is going to be a surprise in this class, the same scout saw Rogic when he was 15 and said he was pretty good then. The youtube video on WaP shows great foot work and speed. I wonder if he will turn into a sleeper for us. Here's wishing.

I think its a definite possibility. He has a good sized frame to grow into and he put up very solid numbers in a very good league. The fact that he has tons of skilled linemates to skate with at RPi will help him with the D1 learning curve.

I'd love to know what other schools were hunting him.

I saw Higgs in street clothes and he's a pretty stocky kid for his age...similar to Jerry D. in build...I think he's got a shot a being a 190 lb.+ kid with moves...I think he will turn some heads.

No need for it in opinion. We should stay here and keep the dsicussion more open. We do benefit sometimes from fans of other teams which would be much rarer elsewhere. (Not that yours truly doesn't post on both of those boards on occasion.)

:D
I agree with you RB. I enjoy most of the banter from the fans of other squads...

We're definitely in agreement with our concerns. I think the WaP promotion so far is halfway decent, as I do see links to it on Facebook within a couple of the hockey game "events", as well as various fan groups. Not to mention, I'm sure there are plenty of subscribers on Twitter. I don't know if RPI Athletics would promote it or not (do they?), given it's a "fan blog" composed by two alumni, despite its astute attention to detail. That would likely be the cream of the crop. Until then, we may be stuck to Facebook, Twitter, getting lucky on Google, as well as Word of Mouth.

Ive promoted WaP on my facebook page before and have told friends about it. I doubt RPI would promote it after the Harry Z. photoshop as mentioned before (one of my favorites so far).

This. So much this. I still expect an offensive onslaught this year, and I would not be surprised if the Engineers just skated circles around the rest of the league (minus Yale), even though we didn't land JL this season.

Today is 11 May 2010. There are 150 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 8 October for the start of next season.

We more-or-less skated circles around Yale last season. :)

Not too many of our ECAC wins were close; a lot of them were pretty dominative. Yale, the first CCT game, both Q-Pac games, and there were a few others that were the same way. We definitely showed signs of being able to skate circles around teams, but now we just need to be consistent and further discipline our game.

Most goals in the ECAC, at least from what I can see, are not from overpowering a team, but rather from exposing individual mistakes. Even in playing Cornell, for the past few years, at least 75% of the goals they scored against us were odd man rushes. I realize it's just one team, but it happens a lot against other teams. Look at how we lost the Dartmouth game, or the GWG at Starr this year. The tie against Harvard is another example. Coach is concerned about the maturity of our playyers, and he is definitely right that that wins games in this league.

I didn't see either of these games in person (being that I was in Philly for the Black Friday game, and did not travel to the Whale for the game at Yale). I understand that the team won, essentially by playing the same game, just performing it better, but I don't think we can claim at any point that we skated circles around the Elis.

All three of Colgate's goals against us at Starr were PPGs. Are you saying we need to stay out of the box? If so, many of us have been pleading for this for many moons. :p

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

Dominative? Is that some kind of sex act with an Indian?

That must be why the spell checker didn't pick it up. Of course, I'm also used to at home where, for some reason, Firefox uses a British spell checker. The context was that we had dominated in the game.

The third one, which I had picked out, was clearly an individual mistake, and was the point I was attempting to convey. The first two, IIRC (they may have been on the other side of the rink; I was right in front of the third goal), were from good passing during the power play.

Saying we need to stay out of the box is like saying the sky is blue.

Thanks, I didn't get that the first time. :p

By the way, you know how easy it is to change the spell checker, don't you?

I will check Firefox's settings again, but I do know that Karmic Koala (when I had it) had American English as the language, and didn't see a language setting for Firefox right away.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

I enjoy the RPI thread. The amount of passion and hockey knowledge that the RPI community brings to both the RPI thread as well as to USCHO in general is as good as any college hockey community out there. Selfishly, I hope you don't move to closer confines.

I wish we had more active Clarkson and particularly, Cornell fans on USCHO.

Koala? Are you sure it isn't Australian English? ;)

Your opinion really doesn't move me, cake eater.
