Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

Dolan lists Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute '14 for a college on his facebook page, I'll take that as a sign he has already committed to RPI.

This may be the oddest sequence of recruit discovery ever. :)

That's hilarious.

AV Times article about Graham leaving:

http://www2.canada.com/albernivalleytimes/news/story.html?id=e3960d23-8a63-435f-b65c-9d79767abd4f

While Graham confirmed that his new job is as an assistant coach in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division 1, he said he was unable to name the university due to visa regulations. But it wasn't a move he sought out, Graham said.

"This was an opportunity that fell in my lap that I found it difficult to say no to," he said. Asked if the school was, as rumoured, his old alma mater, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Graham only hinted that the idea was "interesting."

Is Facebook the new Wikipedia, where if it's said there, you know it's true? :D

Granted that's actually pretty reliable, seeing as how it's straight from the horse's mouth.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

SA has brought in a top 10 recruiting class the last two years. With the class shaping up, where do you think this incoming class will stack up against the rest of D-1? Do you think it will be ranked in top 10? I know its tough to gauge what everyone else has but interested in everybody's thoughts. Thanks, have a good one.

I don 't think that this will be a top-10 class since we don't have Laliberte.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

Without Laliberte this isn't a nationally notable class but it's very solid. Had a discussion with GLM last night about it, and we agreed that Nick Bailen is probably the best incoming player, but all-in-all what this class does is bring balance, flexibility, and much needed depth to the program.

I think that Nick Bailen will make the most immediate contribution, but after a year or so, Koudys will be better. It's like Merth vs. E. Burgdoerfer.

Good description of this class-solid, balanced and deep. As RB said-if JL was added to the list, this would have been a very strong class. The last couple years our recruit classes have become consistently good. It is only a matter of time before we are again an NCAA tournament team.:)

Well said, I would also say this class adds some much needed toughness as well. I dont think it will be as easy for other teams to push us around next year. Also with Quinn, Curadi and maybe Laliberte, I think the 2011 class is already starting to look like a top 10 class.

As far as I'm concerned, JL is the cherry on the sundae. If he shows, it's beautiful, if not I've still got a kick-arse sundae anyhow and I'll shank anyone that will try to make me feel bad about eating ice cream.

RC already said it, but with adding Dolan, this helps balance the team out and gives almost equal amounts of depth to both the forwards and defense. Granted with 18 forwards that will make life crazy in practice as it is, but with what 8 or 9 defensemen now the defensive depth is equally as bonkers. Nothing wrong with that.

Only issue is the defense will be very young and prone to mistakes so I'll say this now: Anyone caught complaining about defensive mistakes made by the newbies next year deserves to get their head torn off on the board.

It goes in cycles - the same threats were needed when Merth, Burgdoerfer et al. came in, as our defense at that point was majority freshmen and the mistakes were bound to happen. If anything we're in a better spot than we were then, when Swanson and Luthi were really the only upperclass defensemen to rely on. Now with Kennedy, Foss, and Bergin we have enough upperclass experience to cover for the freshman while they get up to speed, along with several forwards who are good in their own end of the ice as well.

It was far, far worse back when Swanson and Luthi were the experienced blueliners, for sure. At least now we'll have four of six guys with NCAA experience, and I suspect that in 2011 Quinn and Curadi won't be your average freshmen.

FWIW, Reed Kipp also had a year of experience going into 2006-7.

We're talking about the difference between Swanson/Luthi and Foss/Kennedy here, Ralph.
