Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season III -- How we learned to stop worrying and love the Class of '14

Laliberte returning for yet another season in Cornwall...if this keeps up, they may end up naming the rink after him. :p The story is once again lacking a quote from JL himself...

"Laliberte, of Rockland, has for two years had an opportunity to move on to the NCAA division l ranks, with the RPI Engineers near Albany, N.Y. But the 20-year-old is choosing again to remain in the Central Hockey League, one that he's been dominant in offensively.
"He's ready on the ice (to move up a level), but he doesn't feel he's ready to (attend university),'' MacInnis said.

"If he chooses (division l hockey) in the future it'll be at RPI or somewhere else -- obviously he has the talent to play at that level.''

Mr. Baer or someone probably had this article when it was first came out but I hadn't seen it yet. Re: Nick Bailen. I think it is worth posting again. Illuminating.

That sounds like he has no more of an idea than we do as to where JL will be next season. That beer that I may or may not owe RC is will be quite cold if and when he gets it. :D

So true RB...Its right up there with "...Lebron may play in Cleveland next season, or somewhere else." :p

Seeing as how Bryan Brutlag is a senior, could this be a "perfect replacement" incoming? I'm sure Monty had something to do with Bryan moving up in the middle of last year.

Jim Leitner, the TH editor/reporter who wrote the piece, told me that Quinn played defence for the entirety of the recent camp.

Has anyone let JL know that Montgomery has an opening in Iowa?
It would do him good to elevate his game on the ice also.

I have not read it before, and for one, I am glad to have a good personality in the clubhouse.
Some of the recent Engineer teams have seemed a bit tight on the ice.
With our talent and someone to keep it loose, we could go far.
I would love to see these guys have some fun.
And nothing is more fun than winning. :D

Amen to that EHF...having a "been there, done that" kid on the blue line is going to be a great addition.

I may be the only member of the board other than Ralph and Dr. D who attended that game, but it has to rank as my favorite also (though I have to admit there have been a lot of games in the ensuing years for which I was not present).

I can remember my roommate (who didn't go to the game) telling me afterward that he had been listening to the WRPI broadcast.

My roommate said he heard the announcer say that Hearns had crossed the blue line - and then he heard nothing but a tremendous roar.

The announcer's goal call was never heard, but it wasn't too difficult to figure out what had happened. ;)

The place was insane that night.
The rink seemed a lot more crowded back then. People used to sit on the concrete at the east end on both the north and south sides. They used to bang on the siding on the top row. It was sooo loud. It was a totally different place than today. The only lighting, like most arenas back then was over the ice surface. So when the players looked up at the crowd they didn't see much.
The Watson, Scammell, Law era was the best. They were so colorful and fun to watch.
I believe they beat the Cornell freshmen their fresman year? Dryden was Cornell's goalie then too. (freshman couldn't play varsity)

Sadly, I think Monty is maxed out on foreign players, but I couldn't agree more...would've done a world of good for JL as person. As I mentioned before, playing a yr. for Monty in DBQ would've been like his freshman season, w/o losing a yr. of eligibility.

With any luck he'll spend the summer and fall improving his test score - if need be - as well as hitting the weights. If I'm MacInnis I lay down the gauntlet for JL as to what I expect from him: Leadership (i.e. maturity - no midseason vacations) "This season you're gonna lead this team on AND off the ice" and improving his defensive responsibility.

I can attest that goalies like nothing better than having a cool customer(s) in front of them on defense.

I think Bailen is going to be a real help on the PP. Someone I spoke to told me he has a great shot from the point. Although Chase did great back there, I am not a fan of a forward on the point. Rotate Nick, Jeff and Mike B at the point. Agree WS, Bailen comes in like a senior as far as hockey maturity is concerned.

My recollection is that the Cornell freshman won, but it is a dim recollection. The Cornell Sun (college paper) has been scanned. If I knew the date I could find an article. http://cdsun.library.cornell.edu/cgi-bin/newscornell?a=d&cl=CL2&sp=CDS&dec=1960. Obviously it was in 1965-66.

Who is the other besides for Quinn? The guy from Latvia doesn't count, IIRC because he is a dual citizen.

Too lazy to look for this game, but here is the article about the 1968 game http://cdsun.library.cornell.edu/cgi-bin/newscornell?a=d&d=CDS19681205.2.1.4&e=--------20--1-----all

Since the above has been cut, here is a PDF of the page with the end of the article. http://cdsun.library.cornell.edu/cg...rnell Daily Sun - 5 December 1968&getpdf=true

I am wrong. :o It is Joakim Ryan who doesn't count as an import.
