RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

This is starting to get Böhr-ing! Can we move on to when and where the esset is appropriate? :D

Well, one can type "aß" as a substitute for a certain three letter word that USCHO doesn't like. :p (The German translation will also work.)

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

So, how bout dem RPI-UND game? Regardless of the name spelling of anyone, I certainly hope that practices will be going very well for the next few days.

Me too. BTW, does anyone know when the team leaves for Green Bay?

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

For once, I have to agree with you. Although likely, it isn't even clear that his family once spelled the name with an umlaut. My family did not spell Baer as Bär in the 20th and late 19th century in Germany. As proof on the bottom of this page http://cgi.ebay.de/Reklamemarke-Frank-Baer-Frankfurt-a-M-/320637813909 is an advertising stamp for my great-grandfather's and grandfather's business.

Always suspected you were a Franks and Beer guy.:D

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

Would be cool to get in final against DU because COL Knowlton's son plays for Gwoz also.

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

quick question for rpi fans. when did RPI leap above Dartmouth in the power ? I know earlier in the season they were well above but I thought by season-end Dartmouth was higher ? ty and good luck

When Dartmouth lost to Cornell in the ECAC semi-final. If your team was as clever as ours and just lost their home playoff series against a non-TUC then they might still be ahead of us!

That's no joke, either. At the end of the day when everything shook out, Dartmouth may well have been in the tournament instead of RPI if they'd thrown their series with Harvard.

This is still the biggest issue with the PWR. Late in the season, it becomes semi-advantageous to lose early, before you can do more grievous damage to your PWR position down the road by losing to better teams.

What surprised me was that if you throw in the "Last 16" criterion, then Rensselaer still makes the tournament. In fact, Dartmouth replaces Colorado College.

If the definition of a TUC had remained Top 25 RPI, then the Engineers would have been out because Qpac and Bemidji State (and RIT) would not have been TUCs anymore, flipping the Rensselaer-UNO comparison (since UNO went 1-7-1 against those three teams).

I'm intrigued to find out what changes the committee is going to make to the PWR process in the offseason to make sure that another squad like this year's team from Troy doesn't make it.

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

Thanks for the replies. For all the "faults" of the PWR, it's hard to argue about the two regular season losses to RPI.

That would be exciting, but lets get past UND first.
I for one think that we have a great chance in this game. UND has eight loses, they can be beat. When we were healthy and playing our best, we were in the top ten in the country.
We are rested and I believe healthy again. This is a much closer game than anyone thinks, because they only see the last six weeks of the season.
We will be going in fresh and ready. I am looking forward to a good close game. And a game like that, York could be the difference.
LETS GO RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

The PWR may have its faults, but in the end, it's still objective. All 58 teams are placed against the same process, and I'd say with at least 90% probability, thanks to the work of those that came up with the PWR method and how successful it has been in predicting the teams, that each team knows (with calculations) what they must do in order to make the tournament. This year, we happened to work the system in our favor. I'm sure there may be other years in which we are the first ones out.

York will almost certainly need to stand on his noggin for this one. There a number of big games he has had to do this, such as BU, Yale, the Junior National Team, also UNH and Michigan from last year, and such. Also, since this is a regional game, hopefully we won't get WCHA refs (remember what happened in the CC game).

KRACH is about the only option that makes sense. The "Last 16" criteria will only serve to punish those that play in more difficult conferences, and that is not happening. Then again, KRACH punishes those who play in weaker conferences unless they're having a Yale-like season, so there's no silver bullet.

Given the conference makeup, I'd put my money down on Hockey East and/or Atlantic Hockey referees. There's a lot of crossover in their referee pools anyway.

EHF-Yes ND has 8 losses-but when did they occur? They have been pretty consistent lately.(13 without a loss)

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

question about PWR - what is the rationale for removing the head to head results from the record vs TUC results, beyond not counting games twice?

Games are counted twice if they are part of both Record vs TUC and Record vs COP, correct?

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

Two things that may work in RPI's favor: (1) Everyone in the building except the ND fans will likely be rooting for RPI, and (2) No ECAC refs!;)

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

Congrats to the Engineers on getting to Big Dance! RPI is DEFINITELY capable of a win here, and York may well be the catalyst. Yale learned that bitter lesson in late January. RPI is the ONLY team to beat Yale by more than a single goal!!
