Click refresh. :) Up one spot to 17th.

Just a question of timing-the new poll was listed just after I had checked. Still too early in the season to make much of it-but I must say it is nice to see us listed at all.

I took another look at the title of the thread, and one of my friends had asked me how many disallowed goals we've had this year. Coach has said he would like our team to be above a 3.00 GFA. In 11 games, we have 28 goals. (Source: collegehockeystats.net) Thus far, we have 5 disallowed goals. You do the math.

Re: Tix for the BU game

Hi all. I'm a BU alum and was hoping to go to the BU game (Saturday afternoon December 11) with my wife and son. What are the chances of picking up tickets at the box office that afternoon? Otherwise, if anyone is selling tickets, I'm interested (I know, I know, I represent the enemy and all that, but still... Anyway, thanks.

I'd say the chances are pretty good, but to be on the safe side, you may want to call ahead at the beginning or middle of the week. The number is 518-276-6262. I recommend you look for tickets somewhere on the side of sections 2-10, as the other side (the student sections) tend to get a bit, well, "rowdy" (in HFH terms, of course).

if you are sure you are going-call the box office now and buy the tickets over the phone. You could always pick them up there when you arrive. Unlikely you will have any difficulty even if you waited for the day of the game as it is most unlikely to be very crowded. The game is being televised on NHL TV which might keep the crowd down even more.

The other thing that RPI definitely needs to work on is accuracy from the point shots. We have some good hard shots from the top; but too often they go wide, when we get them on net it either seems to go in or give a nice juicy rebound. Overall it's definitely better than a few years ago where some of us joked about declining the powerplay.

While some of the shots are indeed errant, some are shot wide intentionally, so that a player can attempt a deflection shot/goal. What appears to be a shot which is wide of the net is often a set-up attempt for a tip in.

Words from the boys in Edmonton, "the only top 10 caliber goalie in the ECAC is RPI's Allan York..."
http://thepipelineshow.blogspot.com/2010/11/this-n-that-mid-november.html

To be accurate, the full quote was: " In fact, I'd argue that the only ECAC goalie that might be top 10 caliber in the entire NCAA is seen above - RPI's Allen York (CLB) and maybe Union's puck stopper Keith Kinkaid."

FD08-Like your concentration on the special teams play. I have always felt it was what made the difference between a decent team and a very good team. Probably even more important now that the officials are calling more than they did back in my days. I am certainly no expert on what works but it seems to me any successful power play has to be fluid-has to change and adapt to what the defense is doing. We have firepower for the power play-we just have to figure out how to free up the main guys like Chase and Bailin to be in a position to take a clean shot with a little room. There aren't as many places in hockey to design specific plans up but the power play and short handed situations are ertainly 2 of those situations.

I understand that the off week has given folks time to chat but I'm having trouble with all of the PP hand wringing. If memory serves, weren't all four goals we scored vs. Union Sat.night special teams goals ? (3 PP and 1 SHG.) This against a very good team with a very good goalie. From where I come from, that's a pretty good night.

Add in Bailen's marker the night before (scored just as the PP expired) along with the disallowed goal when RPI was on the PP, and I'm hard pressed to be worried about our PP.

I would have responded earlier but I was visiting a sick uncle in Springfield Mass. A little sensitive Ken. Where to begin, I want to thank the academy, the voters, my parents for believing in me and of course Ralph Baer. I welcome the response from Ken. As I have mentioned, I have been around reporters for a good portion of my adult life and I have never seen anything like Ken’s line of questioning. SA goes to show the tape and Ken says something to the effect that “won’t you get in trouble”. That is like Bob Woodard asking Deep Throat if he will get in trouble for giving him info. Look at the tape Ken. I believe that Ken didn’t want to see the tape because it would have shown what it did, that it was a goal. IMO, Ken was guilty of media malpractice because he became part of the story instead of reporting it. He knows that and I know that. He would have not taken me to the “woodshed” if he didn’t have some recriminations. I am happy to be in the company of folks like Adam Woden who characterized the goal as “bizarre”. I did not see Ken’s story in the Gazette but did he take Referee Kicks to task for the call? Did he report about rule that was “used” to suspend SA? I bet he didn’t. If you care to Ken, I would be willing to discuss further with you what my issues are in regards to your reporting. Post that you would like to speak and I will call you and respectfully talk to you about it. I will use my real name.

Why does he say "Won't you get in trouble?" Because Mike Schafer did two years back for calling out the refs on how they called a playoff game, and given RPI was in that game, we'd know about what happened. Ken asked an honest question to the players regarding what they thought about the call, in which Coach stated there would be no comments, and a video was played. Taking the referee "to task" has been done enough for the past week and a half, although indirectly without mentioning his name. Also, how do you expect Mr. Schott to report on a rule which he, or anyone else in the general public for that matter, does not have a clear source as to what it states?

His article also says to e-mail him for comments, and he even gives his e-mail address. ;)

The hand wringing came from what I saw on Dubuque's PP in Youngstown and discussion was brought up over here. Our power play has significantly improved, I do not doubt you there whatsoever.
