Schafer will whine and bribe his way to the polls.

I simply could not understand last week an 0-2 team receiving a single vote much less making the top 20. iIsuppose the polls at this stage represent last year's performance instead of what is happening on the ice now.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

I have only caught glimpses of Red Cloud but I think I saw him on a TMZ video with Kim Kardashian. Red Cloud, are you out there? RC, are you out there ... over.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

For the football fans-in an incredibly exciting finish-RPI defeats nemesis Hobart 24-21 on a last second field goal. RPI is now 5-3 over all and 3-2 in the Liberty League with one league game remaining. This season has not turned out badly after a poor start. Beating Union and Hobart on consecutive weeks is a feat we don't often accomplish. Go Red!!!

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Allen has been superb so far this year. WS, see that you are the first to post a story on a Goalie. Any bias there? :D

I don't make the news I just report it. :D Usually, I'm surprised when I find one that the rest of y'all haven't posted already.:p

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Really tough loss to take with 8 seconds left at Harvard. At least our defense has continued to impress and play solid. Offensively we just have to find a way to put the puck in the net a bit more. 2 waved off goals and a post did not help and you could just smell a late penalty being called by the ECAC refs. No excuses though, you do not deserve to win when you just cannot put at least one in the net. Looks like there are going to be a lot of nail biters for us this year.

Interesting to note that apparently the ECAC has made instant replay a bigger part of the program this year but officials didn't put it to use tonight. That might have more to do with Bright not being set up for it. Perhaps Brian Sullivan will get the answers about this.

Was at the Cornell/Clarkson game last night (visiting family) and they had to use video replay for a shot that hit the post in which one of the on-ice officials signaled a goal. After about a minute the officials came out of the scoring area and ruled no goal. So im thinking its just a matter of which schools have the replay system set up. As far as I know, I think Cheel is the only ECAC rink that has video replay. BTW, wasnt that going to be one of the upgrades to the fieldhouse during renovations?

RPI definitely has instant replay while the TWCS crew is filming. Q-Pac has it as well, as they had to use it during the 5OT game. RHam, does RPI-TV have an instant replay setup for the referees to use?

I'm pretty sure QU has instant replay, but wasn't the 5OT game played in Schenectady? (unless you're talking about the women's QU/RPI game last year, in which I don't remember instant replay being a factor)

They did video review on RPI's series-winning goal, but didn't make a huge deal that they were doing it.

No, our replays aren't used by the officials. Occasionally we have curious fans walk up to our booth and ask to see a particular play again. We've never been asked to provide replays to officials. Sometimes we wish we could when video evidence disagrees with the call!

A replay system is/was slated to be installed during the continuing Field House upgrades. My guess is that while the video board may be installed mid season, a lot of the other video infrastructure won't be ready until later in the season.

Yes, Cheel has had replay for several seasons... If memory serves, a video screen with booth replay will be part of HFH's new scoreboard...which hopefully will be hung midseason...not holdingmy breathe though.

Sounded like a real goalie battle, and you just knew that as the mins. ticked away, it was gonna be a tough won to win...credit to both keepers.

FWIW - Appert is in the T/U today and stated (paraphrasing) that not only did he think it was a call that shouldn't have been made with under 2 mins. to play, but that officials implicated Polacek, when it was another RPI player involved in the tangle (which was well away from the puck) taking "our best PK player" (Chase) off the ice.
Seth also mentioned "4 or 5" pipes and Polacek breaking his stick trying to bury a wide open look. I'd like to hear what fans at the game thought of the call...

I hate losing to H, but credit them for a hard fought game, which easily could have been an RPI win. Here's hoping the boys can exact some revenge vs. U.

I may be recall incorrectly, but my recollection is that Tim Haiman (sp?) stated that both waved-off calls were the correct calls.

Hey, WS, isn't that misplaced vengeance? ;). I couldn't get any accounts of the called off goals. Were they legit calls?

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Hi everyone, been a long time between drinks here at the board. Went to the game last night, rather frustrating, RPI carried the play for spurts in each period, but seemed very intent on making singular plays driving to the next instead of dishing out. Bailen in particular missed 2-3 great breakout opportunities to carry the puck instead.

Other observations:
- they really miss D'amigo and Pirri. Very challenged to start an offensive breakout. They did hit 3-4 posts on good chances, but it took a lot of work to get the chances.
- RPI has a a very solid group of defensemen, very good skaters.
- on the goal, Kennedy was already up trying to get the puck out. Foss joined them (!!!) at the blue line, and when Harvard got control, only Brutlag was left on a 2-on-1. Not smart play overall.
- both penalties called late in the game were strange, not just the one on RPI. Had nothing to do w/ the goal scored.

I hate complaining about the refs but we have had some dangerous hits against us with no calls this season-two occuring last night. Helfrich got hit from behind and Kennedy from behind into the boards. Several others that were definately penalties that should have been called-maybe both ways although I didn't see any from us. If you are going to put way the whistle for the entire 3rd period then don't take it out on two calls in the final minutes-one each way. If there was an actual penalty on RPI in the final minute they called the wrong guy. I won't name who our player was because there wasn't even a call to be made but it wasn't Polacek. Finally we had three guys up at the point leaving only Brutlag back-this iis the 2nd time we have left one side of the ice open that resulted in goals this season. Bailen needs to look for the pass more-many times there are openings he isn't dishing to.
