RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Only caught the third period on the B2 cartel, but one thought that stood out to me ... Much more impressed with Koudys than Dolan. Dolan really did not seem to offer much at all last night to me and did not look to effective at rushing the puck. Not a good sign at all for an undersized defenseman.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Here's what I would throw out as a guess for lines on Friday:

Polacek - Lee - Helfrich
AAG - Malchuk - Brutlag
Rogic - Halpern - Cullen
Rabbani - Burgdoerfer - O'Grady

Bailen - Kennedy
Bergin - Koudys
Foss - LeBoeuf

I agree that Dolan appears to be the odd man out on D. It looks like you are sitting Beauregard, Higgs, Smith, and Tinordi. I am surprised that Tinordi was not in the lineup yesterday.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Let's not beat this to death, Doc. There were some lapses, but UNB looked like a great team in game shape that was fast enough to beat the pants off any NCAA team on the east coast (well, right now, at least... I'm sure some of the better HEA teams could win if they were also in game shape).

Burgie-Just pointing out something obvious. Our power play and especially when given a 2 man advantage just has to be better. Our opponents seem to murder us when we are 2 men down. This is nothing new-I have mentioned this for the past few years. This is not a matter of talent and it is not the players. (IMO) This can be rectified but it has to be done by the coaches and addressed. This is a long season and much of it will be spent on special teams. We could be a very good team this year-but that is one aspect that could come back to haunt us all year if we don't work at it. This is nothing new-it has been a problem for us for at least 4 or 5 years now.

Looks about right-would like to see Tinordi in there somewhere though. Hope he is not hurt.

I totally agree. Would definitely like him in the lineup but assuming that based on not playing in the exhibition, he is out.

I like the mix you came up with for each line-hope coach SA thinks the same way. I just would love to see what Tinordi can do out there-I am anticipating an upside surprise that most did not expect.:)

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

The new icing rules are horrible...thank goodness they are only being used in exhibition games. At points it seemed like the refs were not even sure to call it or not.

Well, they can't get the old icing call correct, so you certainly can' t expect them to get the new one right. :D

At least the old icing call was somewhat cut and dry...this one I think is only going to cause more injuries due to races to the puck. Hopefully the crack pipe that the rules group smoked out of gets put away for a while.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

I am humbled by the level of knowledge and insight possessed by this august group...I couldn't watch the game...I put the pieces of the game together from what you have all posted and don't feel a burning need to watch/hear it after the fact because of the story told on this thread. Thank you Gentlemen...well done (yes, you're all used to this as the norm because it's RPI but I am not...). I can't wait to see games this season because I know a bit more about the boys and want to discuss their success...

I recommend an icon that depicts a salute...not a corny one, not a military one...a "Sting" type of salute...who's up to the task? I want to salute you when you write a piece, make a statement or, as a group, paint the picture that we stand back and admire. Anyone who uses it for frivolity will hear from the crew...can we praise our buds with this humble salute?

In anticipation of the very much appreciated smart *** responses in the group:

*No, you may NOT put the initials 'HD' in any portion of the image or its description!... * :D

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one, Doc. I think you're putting too much stock in one meaningless exhibition. You think I'm ignoring a years-long precedent in a lack of PP capitalization.

There is no risk of collision on these races to the puck. They're not going to be steamrolling into the boards, either. I don't see an issue with the hybrid icing. (The shorthanded icing, though, I booed on every opportunity.)

Just different viewpoints. :) Glad we at least have this thread to voice them. Many years ago we had to live with these thoughts privately. In the 60's, 70's, 80's and most of the 90's guy like me just had to keep it all in. ;)

SA on WAP podcast said neither Tinordi or Smith are hurt...was just a # game & wanted to get Beuregard in the game...gotta go Slap Shot on versus

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

I wouldn't worry too much if I were you. It was an exhibition and your first game of the year. UNB has played what would make up about a third of the NCAA season for most teams. You guys will have a good team and earn at least a split this weekend although I hope you get 3 points, for the ECAC's sake.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

We had some technical difficulties tonight here in the lair that prevented the host from being able to hear Joe Paisley while he was on the air - we think he was actually on the broadcast but we couldn't hear him. He'll be on next week instead to discuss the outcome of the weekend and give us a WCHA outlook.

You can still listen to the show on demand if you missed the interview with Seth Appert - http://www.blogtalkradio.com/withoutapeer

Thanks Turk-I had wondered about why those two were not suited up. Enjoy the movie.
