Skilled teams tend to get lucky more often than non skilled teams and over the last four or five there has been no luck. Hands down the skill level is up and that is never bad. They should have an easier time with AI tonight i would think and it will be very interesting watching SH play Union in their second game. I am optimistic once again but i always am at this point in the season.

I agree. I am very glad for the W...don't much care how it came, so long as the boys are learning as they go. I don't mean to pick - just pointing out any area for improvement.

For the RPI football fans. Today in a rainy sloppy game RPI defeated St. Lawrence 10-7. For a change the RPI defense played well when they had to but the offense just turned the ball over too often and could not score on 2 golden opportunites inside the 5. RPI is now 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the Liberty League. Still doubtful they can lead the league with 2 losses but if they win out the season could get some sort of post season bid.

Doc, when a game is played on astro turf can it still be called "sloppy"? :eek: I suppose it can, if referring to the manner of play...:D

For those who remember Puppa or who have seen highlights, I think York's style is similar to his. He is growing up right infront of us.

As far as Puckman goes, I'd tend to agree with your statement, seeing how Puckman is nowhere to be found on any of the new merchandise, on the ice surface as he once was, or on the jerseys. Used to be painted on the black doors when you enter the arena as well.

A couple of old reports about JD'A from McKeen's quoted on the Hockey's Future Toronto board. I don't recall having seen them in the past since McKeen's is a pay site although I may just have forgotten. Since JD' is no longer a recruit, I will post them here.

Gerry D'Amigo (2009), LW, USNDP
Rode shotgun on Morin's line and was the beneficiary of many assists, finishing third in team scoring .. a multi-purpose forward that can do many things well .. his attention to detail in the offensive zone and patience with the puck helped to create many offensive chances .. always pushing forward and trying to make things happen by going hard to the net .. the goals he scores are usually within the hash marks or tip ins, which is a skill .. he enjoys playing in traffic and can make uncanny plays with limited space ... plays a game similar to Ryan Smyth, a surging power forward but one who lacks size.

The type of player that makes his living in the dirty areas .. he's not a great skater, but it's his ability to make plays in tight around the net that separates him .. cunning and creates great space inside the offensive zone, even within the slot area .. has the skill to make plays in tight around the net.

That latter description appears to be more of the guy I've seen play out there. I've yet to see D'Amigo take up any space in front of the net on power plays or 5x5. Much to my enjoyment, Josh Rabbani has been seeing time in front of the net recently on power plays.

Last year it was touch and go if the hockey team would win more games in the same season that the football team did. I can't ever remember the football team winning more games than the hockey team in the same season-and I go back to the early 60's (even the 65-66 hockey team with 3 wins won more than the football team that year)

Not a pretty game by any stretch of the imagination tonight, but a win nonetheless. RPI seemed to feed off the crowd's noise at the end of the game and pull out the win.

Many wonderful things come out of the victory tonight. The TV curse has been broken, RPI remains undefeated at home, the team is above .500 for the first time in a while (I'm not sure how long), and we win back to back nights at the HFH for the first time since Feb. 10-11, 2006 against Yale and Brown (BRF!).

Pirri made up for his chippy penalty at Alaska on Friday night. D'Amigo made up for his retaliation penalty against SHU with his play tonight. And the team managed to draw no penalties on themselves tonight (granted, Dell was the ref and you never know when or if he'll call anything), but I'll take it!

I believe in this team. I believe in Seth Appert.

Oy. Perhaps I'll hop over to Schenectady to watch the U18s play Union that night and cover my ears when they announce the scores between periods ;)

The one thing I took away from this game was 0 penalties called on RPI tonight. When was the last time that happened? And especially with Alex Dell as the ref.

The one consistent thing about Alex Dell is he is inconsistent. The next time we have him he is just as likely to call a dozen penalties on us in the first 2 periods. You just never know what to expect and makes it difficult to play with him out there.

I still have two concerns about this team.
1. They create incredible scoring chances (at least they did last night) but converted very few. I don't know how that creation will stand up to ECAC competition.
2. They don't seem to play well when the play gets physical.
Its like they are geared to speed and flow, and when that is broken, they don't know what to do. JMO

Creating the scoring chances is a step in the right direction. Plus, you're not going to be able to score them all. If we continue to work on screening the goalie, playing to the different types of defensive set-ups, then we should be able to blast the horn a bit more.

We definitely play west coast offense against the clutch-and-grab. Given our size, we don't have much of a choice. I know they're working on that in the weight room.

It's been THAT long since a back-to-back at Houston?! I'm shocked.

As for above 500, since December 07. We were kicking serious booty, then get to Miami, and it all goes downhill from there.
