Going to the game Saturday, but wanted to get a copy of the WRPI broadcast of the game. Any ideas on this? I doubt WRPI does podcasts of games?

I suggest hooking up your radio to your computer (use line-in), and recording that way. Either that or record the WRPI online stream.

RPITV offers streaming video of each game a day or two after, which includes the WRPI audio feed for their commentary. Would that work for you?

It depends on what Ed means by "win emphatically." I mean, yeah, I'd like for them to pour on the goals this weekend, but I don't think they have to absolutely obliterate them.

They do have to win both games, and not in the way that Quinnipiac beat Bentley (in overtime) last week. Twin two-goal wins would be acceptable. More would be better, but not required. The message here has to be that this is a better team than the one that has struggled against the dregs of Atlantic Hockey in the past few seasons.

I do agree with Ed and Seth that Atlantic Hockey isn't anything to sneeze at among the higher level teams, but these teams don't fall into that realm.

Two wins in regulation please...don't much care at the goal differential, though a shutout would be sweet. :p No OT or heart stoppers would be nice. There are no real gimmies...especially in the early goings of seasons when all teams (even top 10'ers) are getting a feel for their lineups. One need only to look at recent losses by ND, BU and others to see this.

Well on the CBS Evening News tonight, RPI is featured as one of the colleges where swine flu is going thru the campus. Seems at RPI, some students got the flu while sharing beer cups during a beer pong game. Ah, to be young a foolish again. ;) .

It's curious that the RPI ban caught such attention, when this already happened at Cornell last month:
http://cornellsun.com/node/38112

Additionally, all IFC registered events are now mandated to provide hand sanitizer at the serving station, food in the form of individually packaged snacks and water in the form of water bottles. They are also required to display an IFC poster that highlights essential tips for preventing the contraction of the H1N1 virus at social events. Drinking games are also banned.

...

According to Allen Miller ’11, vice-president of the IFC, ensuring that events do not become crowded is an effective way to protect students from the spread of H1N1.

“Gannett has told us that larger parties that involve drinking games are conducive to passing germs,” Miller said. “Based on our talks with chapter presidents, Gannett, the community and the administration, especially [Dean of Students Kent] Hubbell, we were advised to continue a moratorium to keep Gannett from becoming taxed. This is a safe response to the swine flu. Yet, at the end of the day it was the council’s decision to make.”

there's no recap on uscho, and I don't live in the area, so I don't get the local news, either. how'd the team look? doesn't seem to be a great sign that sacred heart took us to OT. and again, I wasn't there, so I didn't see how SH scored their goals, but it doesn't seem like York is living up to his hype so far. how's he been doing?

Team flew in the first and second, especially in the second. Off a step in the third and took a couple of legitimate bonehead penalties but more of them were just a typical Alex Dell type.

Two of the goals York gave up were extra attacker (one PP, one delayed penalty). He made some fantastic saves with the glove and made a toe save late that saved the game.

Not the way I wanted to win but given the trap that Sacred Heart played after they scored first (which was really unfortunate considering the total domination RPI displayed early) and after they tied it (on a weak 4x3 and the delayed call which was one of the bogus ones), I'll take it.

Sometimes, it can be hard to beat a weak team for which a tie is a win. We get another one tonight.

EDIT: After reviewing Ed Weaver's article, I have to concur - in the second period, it did look like it was going to be an epic beating. Even after the two quick ones, the period was really dominated by the Engineers. Fundamentals looked great. C.J. Lee was everywhere.

And I thought our attendance has been off-
Friday, October 23, 2009 at Hobey Baker Rink (Att: 200)
Granted this was an exhibition but with that few in Baker rink the echoes must have been reverberrating:eek:

No wonder they have canned applause when Princeton scores. You'd think you were at a CBS game show. :P

It appears that the coach and the team feel the same way we do about last nights game.
I am glad to hear that they were not satisfied either.

It's one thing to be glad they realize their mistakes. It's another and I think what the fan-base is looking for good thing if John, Peter, Bryan, or Coach motivates the team while the band is playing the Alma Mater above them to take the third period by force and say to the other team "Get out of my house!"

cool, thanks. I know, those "weaker" teams always give bigger programs a hard time. and it's good to hear that York is making big saves, at least. it'll be interesting to see how they react tonight, and moving forward.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 -- RIP Nathan Marsters

Went to my first game at the Field House last night, great time. Fans were a riot. I was pleasantly surprised to see an entire arena respect the Alma Mater. I think I heard our own "Clarissima" played a grand total of two times at BU (matriculation and graduation). Anyway, it appears I've found my local team while I'm back home in the CR. Go 'Tute!

Welcome. Years ago, the Alma Mater was played when the team returned to the ice for the 3rd period. IIRC (it's been a long time) the team would stand on the blue line and the lights would dim. Then the NCAA decided we would get a delay of game penalty, and this stopped.

And usually, to show we weren't just trying to be total jerks, we'd start with the opponent's alma mater (if we had it available). Of course this is WAY before my time (sorry Ralph, but my screen name should give some explanation. ;) )

Spot on RC - especially about CJ Lee. The kid really impressed me last night. More on him in a bit...

I came early with my son to watch the warm ups, and was glad to see these guys as a team - meaning they all just looked like the got along great and as a very cohesive unit. There seemed to be a very strong bond between them. During warm ups, Pirri was laughing and had a smile on his face the entire time. Kennedy was mixing it up with some of the guys too. Given the struggles that this team has had over the past few seasons, it was great to see them so jelled. Pirri is also an absolute sniper. As the team was running thru its drills York was stoppijng virtually all of the shots...and Pirri netted at least 8 in a row. I can also say that he is thin (sizewise). During the warm up he was standing next to the glass and had his jersey sleeve rolled a bit so you could see his wrist and part of this forearm, and he is very thin.

As for the game, my impressions was that they played well in the first, but kinda as Appert says in the Record interview, just to much dangling and trying to show or make a perfect pass. They should have shot way more in the 1st and this game never would have been a contest. In the 2nd, came out on fire and netted 2 quick goals on intensity and just putting shots on goal. At that point, I was ready for them to have a huge 2nd period. Dont get me wrong, they played great. Even 5-5, they had SH trapped in their end for some long stretches and almost looked like they were on the power play. Totally controlled the game. I did think though that they played down a bit to the opponent's level and their speed and effort ebbed such that they got outworked from time to time. 3rd seemed like a carousel to the penalty box, and some was ticky tack but none the less just bone headed - and it cost them as SH stayed aggressive and just out worked them to tie it up. RPI dominated the overtime.

Some other thoughts - York is the real deal, but my god, some of the rebounds were huge. He just seems always in the right place, but those rebounds will hurt us over the course of the season. Appert said that he thought Pirri worked hard all game, and again maybe its me, but I didnt see it. He looked extremely comfortable and christ the kid knows how to find the net, but I didnt get the impression that he worked nearly as hard as the rest of the team. There were times that the SH forwards seemed to be able to skate by and around our D. Overall, I thought the D played pretty well and with a chip when needed. The game was pretty chippy and I think that it got our guys out of sync a bit (hence the 3rd period parade to the box). I like D'Amigo. Not afraid to scrap it up a bit and just drive hard, although it did seem like he might have expected some other things on the ice at times (for example got called for an offsides because he drove the blue line expecting his teammate to get the puck deep but didnt make that play). I'm sure that stuff will work itsself out the more they play together. Back to CJ Lee - RC was spot on...this kids was all over the ice. At one point in the 3rd, he controlled the puck for what seemed like 30+ seconds (carried it in skated / stickhandled between players, had a shot, picked up the deflection in the corner and just kept control and moving). On this board, we keep mentioning our 2 draft picks, but this kid is going to be a real contributer. I can also see why Kennedy is the captain. He took a shot off the inside of his knee at one point and was visibly hurt, but never went down and 10 seconds later drove into the corner against 2 SH guys, mixed it up and came away with the puck. I love warriors.

In all, this is a fun team to watch. Lets not forget how young these guys all are. There is some great, exciting hockey in store for a while. Yes, they almost let this one slip away, but this team is good - and actually probably much better than they even believe.

1 last note - I sat in Section 7 last night towards the top, and there was a bearded gentleman with a cap with all kinds of pins in it basically keeping his own scoresheet and had USCHO printout of the SH roster....was that any of the posters here ??

Sorry - 2 other things just thought of...they band was great. Even my 12 yr old son commented. He was hysterical when the ref took the ice before the warm up and the band went wild on them. Classic. The other is Puckman. The dude is a classic as well. Again, my kid thought that was the best and wants to bring a camera next time we go to get a pick with him. Nice.
