Reading this article is like deja vu.
Anyone who posts on this thread has posted these exact thoughts.

It depends on what Ed means by "win emphatically." I mean, yeah, I'd like for them to pour on the goals this weekend, but I don't think they have to absolutely obliterate them.

They do have to win both games, and not in the way that Quinnipiac beat Bentley (in overtime) last week. Twin two-goal wins would be acceptable. More would be better, but not required. The message here has to be that this is a better team than the one that has struggled against the dregs of Atlantic Hockey in the past few seasons.

I do agree with Ed and Seth that Atlantic Hockey isn't anything to sneeze at among the higher level teams, but these teams don't fall into that realm.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 -- RIP Nathan Marsters

While Mr. Weaver makes some valid points, and probably reflects how many RPI fans feel, I think he is jumping the gun a little. Yes, these next four games are important. I think RPI does need to go at least 2-1-1 to build the confidence of the players and the fans. It is silly, however, to say the team needs to score a certain number of goals or blow away 2 or 3 of these teams.

It's early in the year, players are still getting acclimated and the coaches are still trying to figure out the right buttons to push.

This article also has some other errors and poor assumptions; most notably the information about scholarships and how they are determined. First, Atlantic Hockey is not made up of Division II schools. In his next paragraph Weaver mentions Holy Cross, which is a Division I Institution. I believe the limit on scholarships is set by the league as a part of their philosophy, not because some of their schools are Division II Institutions.

He sounds more like some of the more passionate fans on this forum than a Journalist or even an informed opinion columnist.

I took a day of vacation today since the weather was nice and went bike riding. I thought about SA's shirt. How about "32 second"-string goalie? :D

No, probably not. :D :D

Which is why I posted it.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 -- RIP Nathan Marsters

Bryan Vines has been announced as the new Assistant Coach according to Ken Schott's blog. http://www.dailygazette.com/weblogs/schott/2009/oct/21/vines-named-rpi-assistant-coach/ A video is included.

Edit: Does anyone know what SA's shirt signifies? Did we lose an important game with 32 seconds left?
I didn't see any picture in the article??

On a related Appert clothing topic, I was very glad to see Seth apparently taming the "Curse of the Tan Suit" vs. UNH. (The curse predates him and started under Fridgen...with RPI losing suffering several brutal home losses when the head coach was wearing a tan suit.) :D I will say I was a bit wary when I arrived at HFH to see Appert wearing tan...

There is a link to an interview at the end of that article. It's the shirt SA is wearing there.

Curse of the Tan Suit..... TV Curse..... gosh, we could probably make up a new curse for every occasion where we lose. :D

Well on the CBS Evening News tonight, RPI is featured as one of the colleges where swine flu is going thru the campus. Seems at RPI, some students got the flu while sharing beer cups during a beer pong game. Ah, to be young a foolish again. ;) .

RPI remains the home of some of the hardest drinkers in American academe, yet has one of the best records in the nation when it comes to drunk driving, sexual assault, and other crimes connected with alcohol.

This tends to get overlooked since RPI's never on a listing of top party schools - RPI is certainly not a party school. You try to party your way through RPI, you aren't going to survive the first semester.

One thing that sober cab programs and students cutting each other off can't stem is swine flu though. Doesn't surprise me that RPI's got a warning out about beer pong (which SNL mentioned last weekend). My old fraternity has gone dry for the time being in response.

I firmly expect referrals to counselors at the Institute to increase threefold during these trying times. :)

They could always play Sanitary pong, where you fill the cups with water and drink your own beer.

But of course, who does that honestly, anyway?

And GLM, if anything is with the possibility of getting busted this week, it's the TV curse. Ever since CSTV decided they would never travel to HFH again because of a certain cheer during Freakout 05, we have NEVER won a TV game.

CSTV can chew on my nuts for having a crappy announcer call the 2007 D-III National Championship. TW3 can also chew on my nuts for having some stiff do the interviews between periods when it should be me, that clown Sinkoff sucks at everything.

I'm going to Friday's game...who else is going? Where will posters meet during the second intermission? This will be my first look at Engineers this season.
