I spoke to a friend the other day that is close to Addesa and he said Mike confirmed that he will attend. I hope the crowd welcomes him back with a huge cheer.

Was at Adessa's Jr game this evening and wanted to say hi but had to leave before it ended...happy to hear he will be at the Anniversary celebration...great ol' bear...

From the Dead Tree folks today:

This outdoor game thing will never, never, never, never, never, never, never, ever happen. Nevah evah. Why? Well, for all the reason Ed Weaver lists.

Look, Tim Wilkin, if I want to know the inside poop on Siena basketball, the Useless is my first source. When it comes to hockey, it's the Record or the Gazette. Incidentally, if it's horse racing, I open the New York Post. Geez, was it something I said?

Seven negatives? That's an odd number, so it won't happen. :)

When I was at RPI, it was difficult to differentiate between Siena and HVCC academically. This makes me amazed that their basketball team gets so much coverage.

You were angling for it, so here it is.

Without A Peer has its Top 10 Games of 2000-2009 up. Feel free to debate, criticize, praise, or pay me.

Though I don't remember most of these (I was still in secondary school), I'm glad to see last year's shutout on the list. Although we lost the ensuing games, it was nice to see Section G practically empty for a men's game. That final of 3 games was definitely the corner-turn for the team, and we've a long straightaway in front.

The media is way too obsessed with games that have out-of-bounds and 2039482039478 clock stoppages resulting in the game taking forever to complete.

All good choices-wish we had even more to choose from though-the decade overall was just not as exciting as some of the previous ones. Here's hoping the next decade brings us some bigger games on the national stage. I strongly suspect we will hae plenty to talk about soon!:)

Hockey's Future http://www.hockeysfuture.com/articles/11814/blackhawks200910_ncaa_prospects_update/
Brandon Pirri, C - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Hockey East)
Drafted 2009, 2nd round, 59th overall

A pair of freshmen have kick-started the RPI offense this season in Jerry D'Amigo (TOR) and Brandon Pirri. While D'Amigo's performance for the U.S. at the WJC has earned him quite a bit of attention, it is Pirri who has made the biggest splash for the Engineers. The 6'0 160 lbs pivot has seven goals and 22 assists and has appeared in all 26 games on the season. His 29 points rank second on the team while his assist total ranks first. At 18 years old, he has spent much of the season on the team's second line as well as having a huge role on the power play. While Pirri's vision and passing ability are his greatest strengths, he has also been solid in the faceoff circle and has already shown improved positioning in the defensive end over the course of the year. While he still needs to add some bulk and continue to round out his game, Pirri has had an impressive start becoming a focal point of the Rensselaer offense.
At least it wasn't Hockey West. :)

I heard that Siena was playing SUNYA in hoop outside new years day. At "Beman" Park's basketball court.

Sometimes when you make stuff up people listen

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Less silly, more not feasible. As RC mentioned above.

Because nowadays media and drive-by fans are so obsessed with outdoor games, why isn't there a team yet that only plays its games outdoors?

For the same reason that the Arena Football League is bankrupt. :)

In all seriousness, outdoor games seem to be a bit overdone these days. Wisconsin had quite a bit of trouble selling as many tickets as they wanted to for theirs (coming up in a week and a half), and they're crazy expensive unless you can sell 50,000+ tickets to make up the cost. (I'm probably echoing both you and RC here.)

Another problem - conditions just can't be controlled as well as indoor games. Blizzards, freezing cold, gusty winds, 50-degree weather, you name it. It could really throw off the game, and all of these things are possible (and not uncommon) in Troy in January/February (or most other college hockey locales, too). Wisconsin tried to get the WCHA to make theirs a league game before they chose Michigan as their opponent, and the league wouldn't let them for that reason. It's awesome if it works, but there are a ton of things that could go wrong.
