Wow-that is a brilliant response-one of many you seem to add to the board. It doesn't take a genius to figure out this team would be better with those two in the line up at full speed and I would be stunned if those coaches haven't asked themselves the same question. Any good coach would look at all possiblities if they wanted them back in the line up. I have seem them both play and know the team will go much further if they are in the line up and performing to their abilities.

Keep diggin, pardner, keep diggin.

I'm sure many of us agree that we want those two in the line up at full speed. They don't play at full speed though! So they aren't in the line-up. Just like last year's playoffs: It doesn't matter happened in the past, only what happens in the present.

Figure out why the coaches do what they do. There's no free lunch at RPI.

No, FlagDUDE, no. You see, players should get ice time based entirely on their past exploits. That is the only thing that really matters.

You are obviously not an athlete and have been sitting in the stands your entire life. You have a huge chip on your shoulder.

Appert said he “expects” former team scoring leader Tyler Helfrich, benched twice lately, to play on Joel Malchuk’s fourth line.

“Tyler’s been better,” Appert said. “I thought he was adequate in the game (vs. Clarkson). I thought he did some pretty decent things and was solid defensively. He made a few plays. He’s been better.”

*bangs head on table several times*

I don't necessarily know about the checking line for Tyler, but Joel plays very well in front of the net. Look for Tyler to get the puck to him for either a few chippy rebounds, a nice redirection, or something along those lines. Those two I'm sure have practiced a bit together over the last couple of days, so they know what each other needs on the ice. And with Harvard most likely focusing on Polacek's and Pirri's lines, that 4th line definitely must step up. Them AND Goulet's line.

Yes, this must be the answer. Boy, you've got me figured right out, IMO.

You've got to admire a person that hits rock bottom and then continues to dig.

I hear China isn't too bad this year. He must not have liked the directions Google Maps gave him from Troy to Shanghai, though. :D

Moving on...

WAP had a look at the ECAC Awards race a few days ago, if you haven't been by the site at its new address, go check it out.

Also, if you're having trouble getting pumped up for this weekend, first off, what the heck is wrong with you? Second, WAP has the solution.

It says something about RPI that we are the only school (besides newcomer QU) never to have received a Coach of the Year award.

Do you think that having two RotY candidates will hurt their chances?

With respect to the awards RC.... I'm a little surprised that you don't feel any of our D are worthy of consideration for best D D. We have allowed the 2nd fewest goals in the league. Given the level of whining on this board sometimes, it's clear that this is an aspect of RPI's game that is widely overlooked. We all notice Bergin and JFK but I think Merth, Burgdoerfer and Foss are all having solid years.

Now I only say a little surprised because it is not easy to choose one guy from this unit. I might throw my vote to Burgdoerfer since he is a senior and I think moves a little better out there than Merth. Foss and JFK have next year to try to win.

I think Leblanc wins top rookie. Why? He is a 1st round draft choice playing in the biggest media market and Pirri and D'Amigo might end up splitting some of the votes.

Possibly, if they split the NY votes and the NE votes all go to Leblanc, like in the Heisman.

I took a hard look at the numbers on that one, and I can definitively say that we have a very good defensive unit, but no one that stands out enough individually to merit really serious contention for Best Defenseman. Foss might have been a good contender a couple of months ago. We've certainly got an outstanding and very under-rated defensive corps, perhaps one of the most balanced in the league, but as individuals, not as much (although I would like to think that John Kennedy is one of the best purely defensive defensemen in the league).

With regards to the ROTY, I'm fully prepared for RPI to get boned in that category yet again. I thought Dietrich robbed Murley in '99 (although that one was close), McFeeters robbed Marsters in '01, and Jessiman robbed Croxton in '03.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

BTW... word on the street is that the '85 alums are very happy with the way they were treated last week. Sounds like Seth and the gang are really getting things together.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Beat Harvard and don't take Dart for granted. Gaudet is a really good coach. If you don't bring it he will beat you dispite the dismal Green season.

Harvard is better than advertised. I have been to Bright a few times no great Home Ice Advantage there. Just a couple hundred of the entitled sittin on their hands.

at 15 guess Seth can stay around for a few.

How does anyone know why Seth plays who he plays, he tells you what he wants you to know in the news (like any good coach). You can get an idea by watching, but unless you are at practice or in the locker room you are only guessing and grasping.

This team looks pretty motivated to me. frosh are the toughest keep up all season so far so good.

I like Marty O

I like O'Grady a lot. I know he doesn't get as much attention as Pirri and D'Amigo, but IMO he should get it. What a great player! Some day if Pirri and D'Amigo decide to leave RPI early, O'Grady will be one of the most talked about on the team.
I thought the same back when Polachek was a freshman. He was my favorite back then, and now look at him.

There's little doubt that O'Grady will be heading up his class as a senior, unfortunately, but he's hardly a parting gift. Excellent, talented player simply overshadowed by two other excellent, talented players on his team. To what extent his numbers are partially generated by Pirri, I'm not 100% sure, but he's got the gift for seeing the right moment to shoot the puck.

I totally agree GPM. Marty is a puck hound who busts his tail on every shift...he is a master at corner battles...love his drive and determination !

Why would we take either team lightly?

If anything the boys ought to have a BIG chip on their shoulders vs. Harvard after literally GIVING them a tie in January.

Ditto Dartmouth..they are always well coached. In the game at HFH we were down 1-0 heading into third, winning it on Kerins talliy..and we were outshot in both games.
