Rocky Mountain Showdown! DU and CC!!

Re: Rocky Mountain Showdown! DU and CC!!

DU has already beaten CC once this week. They have gotten a committment from highly touted Beau Bennett of Penticton in the BCHL. His final two choices were CC and DU which he both visited in October. DG's Blog has lots of info on him.

That makes it DU 1 cc 0 for the week! :D

Re: Rocky Mountain Showdown! DU and CC!!

Roughly 24 hours till game time, and the excitement is building. One thing I have learned from these games in recent years is that if CC gets a lead it means nothing. No lead is safe when these two hook up. CC better be ready to play a full 60 minutes.

I am more confident in CC winning the game Saturday at CC North than I am about Friday's game. I predict two very close scoring games.

Go Tigers!!

Re: Rocky Mountain Showdown! DU and CC!!

I don't know who Eye of the Tiger is. I hope he/she is friend and not foe. Hope I'm not being hunted. By the way, I'll be at the Golden Bee before the game, but not after.

Friday, CC 4 DU 2

Saturday, (at CC North) CC 3 DU 1

Go Tigers!!

I hope your predictions are right. Should be some great hockey this weekend. Go CC!

Re: Rocky Mountain Showdown! DU and CC!!

This was a very good hockey game between two very good teams. Both teams had great chances, skated hard and clean, and in the end, Denver ended up on top.

The Pioneers were just a little more efficient and clinical than CC, playing road hockey and getting good performances from key upperclassmen. The key for Denver was scoring first, then killing off the first three CC power plays, scoring on their own first PP, and then Chevy came up big in a second period sequence where CC had about 5 good shots in a short span of seconds.

Martin looked like the best player on the ice tonight throwing himself everywhere, and Lowery was sensational for CC, playing as much down low in the offensive zone as CC d-man I've seen in a long time. I also like Brookwell's return to the lineup and I also thought Donovan and Glasser skated really hard tonight.

CC is very quick and deceptive, and they have great puck movement on the PP, which DU aggressively disrupted very well. DU was also extremely effective winning loose pucks on the boards, but that was offset by CC's dominance in the faceoff circle.

All in all, this game could have gone either way.

Re: Rocky Mountain Showdown! DU and CC!!

Fantastic hockey game tonight. Both goaltenders were outstanding, and I think CC was actually the faster skating team much of the time. DU's top line was the difference with their ability to make plays whether or not there is much room or even much of a chance. I would be very surprised if CC is able to keep the Gold Pan this year, but I am also surprised by how well the Tigers are playing thus far.

I agree with you. CC is the fastest team I've seen this year. DU totally changed their PK to deal with CC's PP, and they came out aggressive up top, where DU normally has their two front PK men at the top of the circles.

Re: Rocky Mountain Showdown! DU and CC!!

CC needs to do a better job of finishing. This is the 2nd game in a row where there inability to get the puck in an open net has cost them the game. DU had 2 good chances and buried them both, that was the difference.

Re: Rocky Mountain Showdown! DU and CC!!

Hey Swami, this has nothing to do with the CC/DU series, but since we had discussed it before, I thought I would mention that all of the Harvard team pictures (teams since 1899) are back up on the wall at Bright Hockey Center this year. I spent most of the second intermission the other night looking at those. Cool stuff.

Brown actually has team photos at Meehan dating one year further back, 1898, with some seven man teams.

That's good to hear. Looking at 100+ years of team photos in a row is pretty amazing. The evolution of equipment, hairstyles and uniforms is cool. And just walking around Harvard makes you feel smart.
