RIT used to play here.

Re: RIT used to play here.

More like 1,000,000-1.
So you're tellin' me there's a chance.

I shoulda put a $50 on RIT making it to the Frozen Four. :D

Anyways, congrats to them. I kinda miss seeing them on Oswego's sked every year. Although, we did see them off by sweeping them. :D :D :D

2005-06 when they were DI independent, they were playing a split schedule with DIII and Atlantic Hockey teams. Oswego beat them and I was there.
I believe that was the last time they played a DIII program.

No they actually beat Fredonia 5 - 3 the following Tuesday.

And Russel, you were the one that started it and no I will not S.T.F.U. I admire what RIT has done as the heart they showed Friday night was nothing short of amazing. But through spurts of that game DU really showed the difference in talent. Talent will not always win you games, as a hot goalie (which take nothing away from DeMichiel but the team defense was almost mistake free), and heart can steal one anytime. But even as some of the experts said, a 3-4 in the past 7 games this DU team was not playing its best hockey. Having said that they simply took it too UNH yesterday. RIT outworked, outskated, and outhustled UNH in almost every aspect of the game. I echo pretty much as Prez put it.

Does RIT have a chance? More of a chance the DU and UNH have right now. I really liked Wayne Wilsons interview after the DU game in which he said they were not looking at the DU game as David vs Goliath, but more so as RIT playing just another good team. RIT is deffently a lunch pail team. Either way its still a huge accomplishment for not only RIT but the AHA as well. I will only say this...imagine what RIT would be like IF they had the scholarships and could pick up those grade A recruits.

2005-06 was indeed their last year playing DIII opponents. However, their last DIII game was a 5-3 win over Fredonia.

Interestingly, that year they were:
6-22-2 overall
4-21-2 against DI
2-1-0 against DIII

3-5-1 against Atlantic Hockey (30GF, 27 GA)
2-2-0 against USA U-18 Team (17GF, 18GA)

Re: RIT used to play here.

Of the 59 Division I teams, there are really only about 10 that year-in-year out will compete for a national title. What should the other 49 do?

Of the 400+ Division I basketball programs, only about 20 have a real shot. What should the rest do? Not bother playing?

Even in the pros, how many MLB teams really have a shot? What are the rest even doing, especially the ones losing money?

You play because you want to compete. You do it for moments like this weekend.

You do it for this:

Like I could resist busting on you Remy. :p

The bottom line is you said time and time again that RIT is nothing more than a good team playing in a glorified D3 league with never having a chance to compete for the national title.

The rest of your note does acknowledge that RIT pulled off a heck of an achievement.

They are NOW legitimately competing for a national tltle. Ergo, you turned out to be wrong.

And yes, imagine what they could do with scholarships and Grade A recruits -- they could lose like Denver. :D

Re: RIT used to play here.

Oh don't be bitter that while Plattsburgh is making their arena *smaller* RIT is playing in a DI frozen four.

No, they made it bigger - they added a balcony. As for RIT, I have significant respect for them, they were able to shed this  And, of course they are from the EMPIRE State - this is good too. But, there have been MANY Cinderellas to make it to the ball, but not many that have taken the prince. :)

Re: RIT used to play here.

The '83 team had almost the same record as neumann 23-9-0 vs. 22-10-0, so not quite sure where you're going with this.

And the first time they played in the NCAAs at any level. And were in their third year at D-2. And were six years removed from a .286 season.

I don't think Larry actually looked at the page that he posted.

Re: RIT used to play here.

I think we are starting to see a trend here.I sure hope MIT doesn't start playing hockey as this might seriously imbalance things in world of NCAA hockey.Think about their recruiting possibilities.
