Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Roaring into the postseason <<<<<

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Roaring into the postseason <<<<<

Komey, can you explain what the "play up" belt is?

The "play up" belt is a belt between non D-1 schools that play D-1 hockey.

There are also D-II and D-III play up belts, so any team eligible for either of those are also eligible for the play-up belt.

I found a list from June 2012 of who was playing up. I don't think it's changed since then, but I make no promises.

As of June 2012, here is the list:
D-II Play Up:
Alabama-Huntsville
Alaska
Alaska Anchorage
American International
Bemidji State
Bentley
Ferris State
Lake Superior
UMass Lowell
Mercyhurst
Merrimack
Michigan Tech
Minnesota Duluth
Minnesota State
Northern Michigan
St. Cloud State

D-III Play-up:
Clarkson
Colorado College
Rensselaer
RIT
St. Lawrence
Union

Ralph Baer does a phenomenal job of keeping track of all of the belts. http://board.uscho.com/showthread.php?96653-The-College-Hockey-Championship-Belt-Part-III/page40

3 Captains 1 Assistant?

That seems backwards.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Roaring into the postseason <<<<<

Awfully quiet in here.

Based on other schools releasing schedules, we know the following dates so far.
Friday October 9 - @ Clarkson
Saturday October 10 - @ St. Lawrence
Saturday October 17 - vs Bowling Green (Brick City Homecoming, Blue Cross Arena)
Friday January 29 - Holy Cross
Saturday January 30 - Holy Cross

We also have a home/home with Colgate, and will be visiting BC during Thanksgiving weekend. I haven't seen dates on these yet.

Season tickets will go on sale in Early July. Haven't heard any updates on pricing or anything. Season Ticket holders from last season have the opportunity to renew your seats or select new seats before the sale opens to the public.

Quick alumni note: Steve Pinizzotto has signed ECH Red Bull Munchen in Germany.

Only one non-conference match at the Polisseni Center? Come on, Coach, we gotta do better than that.

In brighter news, the men's APR is pretty high, though not as high as the women's. =)

A few people have mentioned to me that we are down 1 home game from last year, but obviously that's all just speculation at this point. It's good to see Colgate back on the slate, I always found our relatively low number of games with them over the last few years odd.

A Colgate source has that weekend as 23-24 October. I'm guessing it's at Colgate first, based upon previous matches between the two teams and it would be their turn to host next, but I do not know for sure.

It's not speculation at all. If we are at BC, at Clarkson, at St. Lawrence, and at Colgate, and we host Bowling Green and Colgate, that's our six OOC games. Four away, two home. We had three and three last year.

One of the selling points of the GPC was that it would let us bring in bigger non-conference opponents. So far that ain't happening.

So let's burn it down and go back to the Ritter

This is actually just logical thinking about it. BC, Clarkson, and St. Lawrence are owed trips to there place from this past season. Colgate probably wanted, and given their location it makes sense, a home and home series. Colgate also has been one of the teams that schedule RIT from the start. So you sacrifice one home game and make one extra 130 mile trip and round out a pretty nice OOC schedule. How horrible let's start a fire Wayne Wilson thread!

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Roaring into the postseason <<<<<

The biggest impediment to more non-conference home games is the league's 28-game conference schedule. Big 10 has 20 league games, ECAC 22, Hockey East 22, NCHC 24, WCHA 28.

It'll happen eventually, but most likely in a more subtle way than some might expect. As was stated earlier, there are only 6 NCs available to begin with. On top of that, the biggest of the big programs will NOT play on the road at an AHC arena regardless. Teams like BC and Michigan wouldn't be caught dead playing a road game at the JAR, Dwyer, Ritter, or GPC. The BCA was the only reason they were able to come here. RIT has already hosted St. Lawrence and Clarkson at GPC and will likely have more chances than they may have at Ritter to host them and other programs like them, or a little bigger, now that GPC is here. There may be other similar programs that RIT has yet to host that will consider coming here now that they don't play in a 2,000 seat arena anymore. But it will take time. The NC agreements I would imagine are set up years in advance sometimes, so the games they're playing last year and this year may have been determined before the GPC was begun to be built.

But not before it was announced, surely.

We got Clarkson, Colgate, Bowling Green, St. Lawrence, etc. to come in to Ritter. We didn't need to build the Polisseni for that. I don't necessarily expect Minny or Michigan or BU to come in, but Penn State, Omaha, Mankato, UAH, Dartmouth, Harvard, UNH? Seems like they'd fit right in.

Very true statement, but there are many on here that have prove time and time again that they are unwilling to wait a reasonable amount of time...

Pretty significant contract extension for Wayne Wilson today through 2022. http://ritathletics.com/news/2015/6/4/MHOCKEY_0604153047.aspx

Let's play "odds makers", what are the chances that RIT is either 1) Awarding athletic scholarships or 2) part of a different conference by the time the extension expires?

Edit: I forgot to answer my own question. I'll go 20%/50%.
