>>>>> RIT TIGERS - Roaring into the postseason <<<<<

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Roaring into the postseason <<<<<

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Roaring into the postseason <<<<<

Very true statement, but there are many on here that have prove time and time again that they are unwilling to wait a reasonable amount of time...

That's not fair. I didn't say I was unwilling to wait. I just said that we have to do better than one non-conference game at our home barn, and that the promised improvement in that matter hasn't shown up in the scheduling yet. Do you disagree?

Pretty significant contract extension for Wayne Wilson today through 2022. http://ritathletics.com/news/2015/6/4/MHOCKEY_0604153047.aspx

Let's play "odds makers", what are the chances that RIT is either 1) Awarding athletic scholarships or 2) part of a different conference by the time the extension expires?

Edit: I forgot to answer my own question. I'll go 20%/50%.

2% / 5% (they're only not 0% because I can never say never:))

You're right that it hasn't shown up yet. It's just that the way you framed your statement made it seem like you were disappointed that it hadn't and that maybe RIT was dropping the ball. I was simply making the point that I wouldn't have expected those changes to have shown up yet.

I don't know if I would have expected a lot of progress yet, but I certainly didn't expect regression in the number of home games.

On the first one, it depends on if Destler is still President or not. I am not sure if he really wants to elevate to D-I Across the board, I don't think it's in him. I don't feel like it something Spiotti would push, I think someone from above would have to push Spiotti. So it will depend greatly on regime change and who comes in. It should be near the end or just past of that contract when that comes to shove...

I think a conference change remains a good possibility. There is a lot of different directions it can go and something is bond to give that could easily include RIT...

It takes at least two consecutive seasons to see the full cycle of non-conference games.Based on the other team's availability, you may have 3-4 non-conference opponents come to RIT in one season, and then the Tigers reciprocating the next, meaning a small number of home NC games, or possibly none at all.

RIT is going back to Clarkson and SLU to fulfill their end of the deal that saw both come to the Polisseni last season. My understanding is that those games will wind down the arrangement between the schools, at least for now. I hear that Union and RPI will be in the mix the following two seasons. So depending on dates, etc, the Tigers might have another lean year for NC home games in 2016-17. Or Union and RPI will come here and RIT will reciprocate in 2017-18. I wouldn't worry about it. Under the current arrangement, RIT will have somewhere between 0 and 5 NC home games not counting Brick City. It should balance out over time.

Would Niagara once again be involved as the fourth team in this upcoming series? Or is there a chance that Canisius may get involved now that they have new digs?

Niagara is making the Clarkson-SLU trip the same weekend as RIT, so it's indeed a flip-flop of last season when CU and SLU came to Niagara and RIT. Not sure who if anyone, will be playing Union/RPI on the other night, if it's indeed one weekend as usual. A few years ago (2012 if I remember correctly) because of scheduling issues, Union and RPI came to Ritter at different times during the season for a single game each.

I remember when we went to Ritter, as I was in attendance; it was Thanksgiving of the 2011-12 season. I recall playing both you and Niagara at home the previous year (2010-11), but we had played at Dwyer the year before that (2009-10). Union has their final exams the week before Thanksgiving, so that may have played a slight role.

I do understand the mechanics involved here. This just doesn't seem to be any different than the types of schedules we've had since moving up to D-I.

Given the small amount of NC games and the mechanics at play, it just the way it is right now. It's going to take more than just a fancy arena to get what you want. Hardly worth getting panties in a bunch over a home and home series with Colgate...

don't know if this has been covered or not, but some schools will only do 2-for-1 deals...and that's nothing to do with RIT or your shiny new arena. unless you're ok with 2-for-1 deals, which doesn't make much sense with a shiny new arena.

Michigan, for example. they'd rather play American International twice at Yost than travel 70 miles to BG for one game. (even though the last CCHA game with Michigan in BG drew a capacity crowd of 5,000+.) so pffft, we don't play the Weasels anymore.
OSU, on the other hand, is happy to play in BG every year. just takes a bit of patience to find compatible schools.

As far as I know, BGSU plans to keep rotating among RIT/Canisius/Niagara/RMU/Mercyhurst every year.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Roaring into the postseason <<<<<

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Roaring into the postseason <<<<<

Atlantic Hockey runs the gamut in terms of attitudes on non-conference games. Mercyhurst, for example, will play anyone anywhere (guarantees help) with no expectation of a return trip. They went almost three years without a non-conference home game. But after the Great Reorganization left several leagues with more non-conference games to schedule, even the Lakers are getting home games now.

I think the last time RIT took a guarantee for a non-tournament was when the Tigers traveled to Wisconsin a few years ago. Coach Wilson has said he doesn't like them and would like to see the entire league insist on more home non-conference games because that will hopefully improve the league's non-conference record and help everyone's PWR.

Yeah but my point is, part of the benefits of a new arena, according to the university, were that we would get more and better home opponents. My "panties" are not in a bunch; I'm just noting that this hasn't happened yet, and suggesting that, going forward, we need to do better than have just one non-conference game at the GPC. What part of this do you actually disagree with?

Can you explain what "guarantee" means in this context?

Perhaps the RatingsPI calculation of weighting the home vs. away games has slightly helped, although I do wonder if any tournament bubble teams would have changed if the old formula was still in place?

And for the benefit of the other person, a guarantee would mean that a higher reputation team pays a lower reputation team to come in and play. Whether it's a set amount of cash, just pay the expenses, percentage of the gate, it depends on the situation. Benefit for the lower rep team is some extra cash. Benefit for the higher rep team is an "easy win" making the home fans happy, although that does have a tendency to backfire every now and then, as you displayed to Michigan in your first game with them.

Well I don't know, this statement you sounded a bit shall we say unhappy...

Only one non-conference match at the Polisseni Center? Come on, Coach, we gotta do better than that.

Yes we are seeing a similar NC schedule in year 2 of the GPC that we had at the Ritter. But that point is really meaningless right now. And to complain about it lacks a sense of reality with the current NC schedule make up in College Hockey at this time. Many people who know what they are talking about have explain to you , in 5 different ways, the facts of life. And you acknowledge the mechanics required to create the RIT schedule. Yet still bring up the same point. Okay yes we don't have Michigan and Boston College coming to the Polisseni Center. But see we are all kind of screeching our heads at your point because we hosted those two teams at the Blue Cross Arena. They seemed attracted to a 12K or so size arena that is sold out over an arena that is not even half that size. Also I think you are under appreciating and even disrespecting the ECAC teams we have faced. The ECAC has won 2 National Championships in the last 3 years, it is a premier conference.

So yes your point is a true one, but your basically complaining about the facts of life here. So now seems like a good time to just move on...

I am disappointing but not surprise to see that now former RIT recruit, Anthony Repaci will be attending college at Saint Mary's University in Canada. I really think he could have been a heck of a player for RIT, but sometimes things just don't work out with getting a kid to the NCAA Div I level. Overall I still see a very strong incoming class that can build on the success of last season...

I'm not talking about BC and Michigan. We always knew they'd only play us downtown. I'm talking about other schools like Ohio State or Penn State or the Ivies or Vermont or Quinnipiac or Ferris or Bemidji or Alabama-Huntsville ....

I'm glad SLU and Clarkson (and now Union, Colgate, and RPI) have been willing to come to town to play us, especially now that we're in the Liberty League with them (excepting Colgate of course). But let's add some other teams outside New York State into the mix.

Today would be a good day to release next years schedule so we can start talking about who the starting goalie is!
