Coaches' poll is out:

RIT picked to finish second, highest in a while. I note that MacLean is not mentioned as a returnee and is not on the roster, which explains why we're bringing in two goalies this year.

Also looks like Dustin Fostvelt is not on the roster this year.

Appears to have transferred to the great white north:

http://www.uleth.ca/unews/article/impressive-recruiting-class-horns-mens-hockey-team#.VgntZDZdGsc

Dustin Fostvelt * 6'0" 185 lbs * Defense * Edmonton, AB * R.I.T (NCAA)

A former Spruce Grove Saint, Austin Kernahan will take advantage of the CIS eligibility repatriation rule, where Canadian student-athletes competing at an NCAA institution who wish to come back to Canada to play at a CIS member university will be able to do so and start competing right away, instead of having to wait for one year as was the case under the previous rule.

In 22 games with Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T) Fostvelt recorded four assists. During his final season with the Saints he recorded 37 points in 60 games.

Coach Anastas: "Dustin comes in with two years of NCAA experience and we expect a very smooth transition for him. He is a skilled defenseman who skates and handles the puck very well. He is versatile and can move anywhere within the three pairs. We are happy he is coming home to Alberta and chose our program to continue his hockey career."

Now that you mention that, I remember someone else mentioning it earlier this off-season. From 6/22...

Anyone else see that Fostvelt has left RIT to go to a Canadian college?

For once, the pre-season poll looks about right. Atlantic Hockey teams will still have to fight their way into the top 20 but it's going to take some OCC wins by all of the teams in the league to make that happen.

Considering last season's result and the freshman class we have coming in, it seems like RIT is a little underrated.

Not really we were predicted to finish 2nd in the AHC behind RoMo who is the only other team from our conference to get votes. They have a good reason to expect our offense will not be as good without Garbowsky and McGowan. Plus we have a tough OOC schedule we get a couple of wins there more votes will come.

I for one agree with you. I am excited to see what these young men bring to the table but as an outsider looking in, I will be wondering where a flurry goals will come from.

Not to mention the inconsistency of Rotolo in goal. He is the only experienced goalie returning.

If you've ever used B2/AmericaOne/Eversport to watch RIT Hockey, you know that it can be an infuriating experience, especially when an Atlantic Hockey Season Pass costs $150. But I just discovered something to be happy about. Eversport's Atlantic Hockey Season Pass is $99 this year! Much more reasonable. Let's see what the quality is like, especially for Away games...

Well the Amerks were absolutely terrible today, certainly not how to show off in front of a pretty big AHL preseason crowd.

Garbowsky actually was a bright spot I would say, he connected on several nice passes and carried the puck into the zone a time or two. He was actually surprisingly not as strong defensively I didn't think and it didn't look like he got much (or any) PK time..but offensively his line actually had a good number of good chances. Unfortunately once the Sabres cut the last batch of prospects Garbo will be forced down the lineup card unless he can keep playing really well.

Thanks for the heads up, picked up my pass this morning.

I thought last year was $99 as well but I may be mistaken. At $99 it's a fairly good deal, and you have access to archived games if you wish to view past games.

Cheers,
B

I still think someone should just set up a youtube stream for the RIT games out of the kindness of their heart . . .

Pre-season AHL games are not a good measuring stick for anything. That is not the same group of players that will be lacing them up for Rochester next week. The best players last night will be mostly the role players initially for the Amerks (until the annual injury bug hits Buffalo and or Rochester). A lot of the guys that play in pre-season end up in the ECHL or elsewhere.
