>>>>> RIT TIGERS - Roaring into the postseason <<<<<

The Tigers may be in the process of losing a future defenseman, as 2016-2017 recruit Gordie Ballhorn is on the pre season roster of the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL. Ballhorn played last season for the Whitecourt Wolverines, where he was a unanimous AJHL rookie team selection.

And the Rockets are intrigued by the potential of Gordie Ballhorn, a 6-foot-1, 190-product of Wetaskiwin, Alta., who played last season with Whitecourt of the AJHL.

Listed by the Rockets in March, Ballhorn had been considering going the U.S. college route. But when an organization known for producing big-league defenceman came calling, Ballhorn didn't hesitate to say yes.

I mean, how can you say no to the Kelowna Rockets if you're a defenceman," said Ballhorh, who turns 18 this week. "I'm hoping I can challenge for a top-four role and play some big minutes because they're a little short on older D.

Where were these negative reports? I did some quick searches and did not see anything written about him in regards to this game...

This really is just a great spot for him to gain experience, his real chance to make it is going to be this coming season in Rochester.

Someone on reddit did a writeup of the first exhibition game. Basically said Garbo didn't do much of anything and got outclassed by a lot of the other prospects.

How does that explain the +1, which if you look at the game recap is actually an assist. I have to admit he's a much better player at the position he is used to playing, not sure why they put him on the wing.

The plus-minus system just indicates whether you were on the ice for a goal for or goal against. You get points for assists and goals.

Well at least the guy payed enough attention to him to write one line...

Yeah, I know there's not much detail in the description, but it does strike a resemblance to his effectiveness in the RIT v BC game.

I'll give the guy credit, he puts as much thought into that breakdown as most of the more recent RIT posters on the message board... ;)

Some might have already seen this, but for those who have not here is a nice little highlight package posted up by Dave Bagely. It contains games from 01-02 & 02-03. Includes the famous 2 Second and Green Light! games against Elmira. Also has the NCAA quarter final matchup against Plattsburgh, those goals were all so pretty from each side...

I'm quoting someone else's post on this forum when I say that. Something along the lines of BCs defense stripping Garbo of the puck with ease.

Hoping to get some advice from the RIT faithful. Considering picking up season tickets this season. Have not yet seen a game in the new rink. Looks like a lot of the reserved chair-back seating is towards the middle of the rink. What are the sightlines like in the arena? Any areas to avoid? Where is the Corner Crew stationed now? May try and swing by the rink and get a look at the seating before making a final decision. Thanks for the help!

Corner crew is the same side where RIT shoots twice on but in the opposite corner of where they were in Ritter. So same side as the club seats not the reserved chair back seats. The view from reserve is good in the middle from the higher rows cause the opposing teams bench is on that side plus you can see more of the ice. Then corner seats usually are better closer to the ice but this is just my personal preference. Though they did just set the reserve seats behind the goal RIT defends twice as GA seats so they will mostly be casual student fans just as a heads up. You also won't be able to hear much of corner crew on the opposite side of the rink. If there is anything else i missed I'm sure the rest will be able to fill you in.

Sightlines are good, though you're always going to miss a little action in a corner or along the sideboards. I like the ends myself, since you only miss stuff behind the near net, but they're all GA now. The video boards are big enough that you can watch them when the action's on the wrong end of the ice.

Matt Garbowsky has been released from his Sabres tryout and will report to the Amerks training camp, per a Sabres news release sent out this evening.

I guess we might see him at the pre season game this thursday. Will be cool to see him in a Amerks uniform playing at RIT though I suppose Garbowsky might prefer otherwise

I don't think he had any illusions of making the Sabres.

For once, the pre-season poll looks about right. Atlantic Hockey teams will still have to fight their way into the top 20 but it's going to take some OCC wins by all of the teams in the league to make that happen.
