Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Roaring into the postseason <<<<<

As much as you can feel bad for another team in your league you have to feel bad for Bentley, they just can't catch a break. Western pod sends four teams to the BCA next week. Congrats to Mercyhurst and Coach Gotkin for scoring three in the last nine minutes. They will be a formidable opponent for RMU.

I might feel bad for Bentley's fans -- the team seems to tease them every year only to fall short. But I don't feel bad for the team; they had plenty of opportunities to play themselves into the BCA. They could have captured the 3 seed by simply getting a single point against Holy Cross, but even when they fell to #4, they secured a matchup with a Mercyhurst team that similarly struggled down the stretch.

Credit to Mercyhurst, though. Before these Bentley wins, they'd gone 4-7 in their last 11 games with the wins coming against the worst two teams in the league. They turned it around with a strong road series this weekend, but now they've got a really tough draw against their in-state rivals.

Very happy for the Tigers. A "home" finals should be a big boost. Keep it up Tigers and run the table. Good luck.

I don't think you can say that the season ends at the end of the regular season. http://www.ritathletics.com/schedule.aspx?You have to keep up the tempo until the finals!
Absolutely. The conference tournament games must still have meaning. I just disagree with the weighting as it stands now:
34 Regular Season games = 0%
4 to 8 Post-Season games = 100%

... teams like RMU who had a good season but will be staying home after next weekend ☺
Let's hope so!

Except that Spring Break begins for RIT after classes on Friday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that a whole bunch of the students stick around Rochester an extra evening or day and a half to see the game(s), but I'm bracing for disappointment at the size of the crowd when I enter the BCA.
I'm guessing that the school's calendar will remain consistent over the coming years now that they've been on semesters for a couple of academic years. It's disheartening to know that any time the Tigers make it to the AHC semi-finals / finals, the students will be on their way to Florida, Mexico, or wherever. Kind of reminiscent of the D-III days when the Winter - Spring Quarter break more often than not fell on the ECAC West championship weekend. We just can't catch a break, can we?

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Roaring into the postseason <<<<<

So much Western Pod bias.

I hate the talk about the western and eastern pod strengths and weaknesses. It just so happens a couple of the schools in the western pod actual care about their programs. You can normally tell if a school cares about there program because they most likely will average a bit more than 1,000 fans per game. A lot of the schools in the eastern pod have got to be major money losers for the schools if you count traveling, equipment and scholarships. Some of these schools don't even break 500 fans a game (Free tickets most likely). I'm not saying it should be about the money but fans realize if their school puts an effort into the program or not.

This is why I hate the AHC half of the schools in the AHC put little effort into their program. Thank God for scholarships otherwise why bother putting a team on the ice.

RIT and Air Force are truly the only two schools that put effort into their programs and RIT puts a huge effort into their program. The only reason RIT does not destroy everyone is because we do not have scholarships. The only reason.

In a perfect world RIT could give scholarships and go on to win the AHC tournament every year and play in the NCAA tournament.

But God do I love me some RIT hockey!

This is why RIT needs to reach out to the Rochester community. There is only 1.1 million of us...

And some graphs I made showing our attendance this year game by game: http://imgur.com/a/xqmYm

Thanks for the link and the data. One item I looked at was this weekends attendance numbers at the ECAC and HE games. In almost every case RIT attendance was better or near the top. UMass had listed a 4000+ attendance game and BC had some big numbers as well. Proud to be a Tiger fan. While not from the Rochester area I've made several of the Brick City games and plan on doing so for the foreseeable future. From an attendance standpoint RIT would certainly fit into the ECAC very well.

Nice work, looks like only 1 game against SH early in the season would not have been a sellout at the Ritter, even that one is extremely close. I think this is very good for the first year - off campus fans are gradually realizing its not a get there early cluster f anymore on uncomfortable wooden benches. Its no comparison to how fan friendly(and specifically young fans/families)the Polisseni center is compared to the Ritter. Add to that the success of this year's team and it wont be long before the games are routinely close to capacity. I do however agree that they can do better in marketing RIT hockey to the Greater Rochester area and I give parking a 2 out of 10. Maybe at least have two shuttles running between s lot and the arena on game nights. That really shouldn't cost much of anything to do. I'm not lazy, but there really isn't a great direct walking route from S lot over, and this especially sucks with Winters like this one.

Well, I think more 60 \ 40 (Tourney\Season) based off the joy of a bye-week after a long season and home ice advantage in the 2nd round of the play-offs (unless your tanking like Bentley did) but I get where you're coming from.

So, I checked with the horse and yes...we've beaten it enough that this should be the last we speaketh of this subject for the life of this thread. :p

Let's hope so!

I picked the Tiger's to win it in AHC Pick'em so it will be so!

I agree!! I don't even bother with U Lot, I try to park in D Lot and walk past Ritter through that little breezeway but there were events in the fieldhouse the last two weekends of February that made D Lot a disaster.

Based off this 'three things' article, he's still on the fence....

Though Air Force scored one late, the 7-3 victory was an offensive display that has the Tigers possibly hitting their stride at the right time.

Er, I believe Dan Rubin wrote that one.

That's pretty generous, don't you think? ;)
I suppose the fact that there is parking within the town of Henrietta gets them a 1 (maybe), but outside of that I'm not sure what good there is to the parking situation.
As far as the cold goes, my son and I try to park in D lot and walk through the hallways underneath the gymnasium and union. Keeps us warmer for a good part of the walk. As already mentioned, it is quite tricky when they have the Field House events, though.

I agree. I'm not sure what they've done and or not done in that respect. Outside of a few ads and Coach Wilson interviews on the DiTullio show, I haven't heard or seen much about it outside of the RIT community. It's hard to tell because of the scale, but some games I've wondered if the general public attendance has actually decreased from Ritter. Clearly the students / Corner Crew are coming out like never before. However, until their overflow filters into the reserved seats (when the ushers aren't paying attention), the rest of the arena is pretty empty many times. Friday night the reserved sections were pretty empty until late in the 1st and early in the 2nd period. The ushers weren't stopping anyone from taking the empty seats, so more and more came in and nearly filled the reserved sections. Like I've said before, they probably should consider expanding the number of GA sections so the largest sector of fans actually have somewhere to sit and the TV broadcast does not look like there's nobody there (as long as they don't commandeer my seat and make it GA, of course :)).
If the general public attendance is down or plateaued, it could be because of the parking or the increased prices for reserved seats, who knows? Let's hope it was because of how poor the team was the last couple years and that their recent return to winning ways starts to attract more of the public's attention for next year.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Roaring into the postseason <<<<<

A school with ~15,000 undergrads should be able to sell out with mostly student support. I think both ends of the ice should have been GA sections. Alumni seem to gravity to the club section (since ya know they have more disposable income). In general I think non student attendance is strong we just need to disperse the student GA seating more around the arena

Honestly, though I also find the parking annoying and wish RIT would just build a garage already, it's honestly not that bad.

The walk from S-Lot to GPC is not really any longer than from a parking garage to BCA, or most of the lots around any larger sporting venue. Additionally the parking is free, something you don't get if you want to park downtown for an Amerks game. I'm quite sure the general public isn't scoffing at parking as the reason they aren't coming out in droves. It's a lack of marketing combined with pretty pricey tickets. The Amerks are a pro hockey team and you can get decent seats for their games for a price pretty similar to RIT..

Yup, there are a lot of good points here concerning the parking situation. Sort of grounds you when you read it. I've complained about the parking many times.... but you know what? Bottom line is I'm really glad that we have been able to get a new arena. We are lucky to have it. Not only is it a new arena, it's a GREAT arena! I'll live with the parking.
