The Merrimack loss stung because it was a home game and the coach's decision to start Watson. My thought at the time was a win would be huge for any at large chances. I"m not saying Madolora wins that game, but he would have given RIT a better chance.

I doubt it we pretty much had our asses handed to us that game

Agreed.
As I've stated before, that game was nearly as (if not even more) lopsided than the FF game against Wisconsin. It was certainly no surprise to me that Merrimack got into the NCAA's for the first time in however many years. IMHO That was the best performance by a visitor against RIT in Ritter that I've probably seen in the D-I era (not counting the indie year).

Agree completely. Moved up the period as the indie year (and all the DIII years) nobody had to be that good to thrash RIT so soundly.

If Madolora makes 2 saves that Watson didn't, that game easily ends in a tie. Did we get outplayed heavily? Yes? Outshot by a heinous margin? Yes. But we scored 3 goals on 15 shots and kept it reasonably close. It's not hard to imagine a different outcome with Mads.

One quick goal, then a PPG later in the first. Then Merrimack puts it away with relative ease. Then a very late PPG when it didn't matter. I've seen far more evenly-played blowouts (of course we've all seen games where a team was severely outplayed and won anyway due to an outstanding performance in goal ... St. Lawrence anyone?). The outcome could have been different with a different performance in goal (regardless of who did it), but it would have had to have been truly outstanding and very low in probability.

Maybe it was a number of outstanding saves by Watson that kept the game that close to begin with. I thought he was very solid in net that night and easily could have given up 8 to 10 goals if he were merely average. You can't assume that Madolora (or any other goalie for that matter) is necessarily going to have much better results. It could happen, but isn't likely. We'll most likely never again in our lifetimes see a performance like Guimond's vs StL.

Sorry I disagree big time. I do not recall any soft goals that night, I thought Watson played well considering the team hung him out to dry. Trying to say the outcome would have been different with Mads is a spin job, especially considering that one of the goals came late during garbage time for RIT. Also Mads makes the kind saves he should, that what makes him so good. Jaw dropping saves there are few.

That was the most disappointing game all year for RIT. I still think they go down in defeat if Mads was in net.

Partly a bad joke - but more of his complaining about RIT only having 2 million in donations for the new rink. With over 15 years of following RIT hockey and enough RIT hockey shirts that I could wear a differant one for almost a month I think it's safe to say I've put a pretty decent amount of money into RIT's coffers. I'm also ready to jump on the next big fundraising effort for this instead of $5 and $10 texts.

Lets not forget the current economy situation. It can be tough, I for one have a solid job, but the same year RIT decides to do this I am getting married and doing a big time upgrade to my house. Been Frustrating cause I like to dump at least a couple hundred to the cause, but gotta take care of my baby first...

The RIT Tigers have won the league for the last three years nd reached the conference fials in 2010-11.

A left-winger, Knowles had six goals and seven assists in 35 games last season.

"We should be good again this year," Knowles said.

This is my opinion and I have no sources:
- The 4 Western AHA Teams go to CCHA. This make sense if they really want 18 scholarships, plus is a pretty good geographic fit, and it will save the CCHA as a conference.

- If Notre Dame goes to Hockey East, they would probably want to get another team in there (Quinnipiac?). Then RIT would be a good fit in the ECAC. Otherwise I think that RIT is very happy with the AHA right now and doesn't see a need to change anything.

Are you saying RIT will be happy playing in AHA with Air Force and the 6 Eastern teams? I guess it would put RIT and AFA in an even better spot to win the tournament each year.

Last year RIT was 8-2-5 against the potential remaining 7 teams.

It certainly takes the weakest conference and makes it even weaker. Also gets rid of some of our better rivalries and closest away games to invade.

Yes it means RIT and AFA would have an even tighter grip on the league, but if that is because all the other competition left town...that doesn't really make me feel all that great about it. RIT would have to find somewhere else to settle, I think.

If Canisius goes to CCHA they would have to get their own rink since I believe CCHA uses instant replay. Canisius can't put cameras into Buff States rink. Even if it is just Niagara, RMU, and Mercyhurst to jump to CCHA RIT will look to change conferences then you will see money being found for the new rink.

That would correlate well with any discussions of a jump to ECAC (or even a Liberty-like league). I still think those two options are more likely than some are willing to admit. If moving up the arena was a pre-req. for an ECAC bid, I think our administration is smart enough to make it happen. Just fanning the flames here (and wishful thinking on both counts ... arena and conference).

I've also heard a fair bit about the s-lot location. If you look at an aerial photo on google maps (they aren't from satellites at that resolution!!), then it is clear that the bit of land south of S-lot is a bigger than it appears from the ground and could be perfect arena size (with the convenient s-lot parking) ... makes a lot of sense to me.

Thinking about the grassy area between S-Lot and UC that really would be a great place for the new ice arena.

My guess (and completely without source of any kind) is nothing is going on "behind the scenes" here. I think even if RIT were to consider moving, my guess is they're not actively seeking a new home at this time. IMHO, it would be best at this point for them to sit back and see how things shake out first.
And just because RMU, NU, CC, and MC are meeting with the CCHA does not mean that any or all of them are actually going to move. CC has the obvious limitations as already detailed and I read in another thread where some of these four schools are concerned about joining a conference with an Alaska school and or UAH in it. Plus, the CCHA really isn't sure at this point who all is coming and who all is going from amongst the current members. UM, MSU, OSU, NMU, and Miami are definitely gone. ND and WMU have made their intentions obvious, but have not gone anywhere yet. Will UAF bolt to join UAA in the WCHA? Will LSSU join UP neighbors (relatively speaking) MTU and NMU in the WCHA? Will BGSU re-consider the future of the hockey program? Will the WCHA approach the CCHA remainders about a merger or a scheduling partnership?
