Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Offseason 2011 - Dreaming About 2011-2012 <<<<<

I really hope that Tanev gets into a game in the Cup finals so he can get his name on the Cup itself. Since he didn't play enough games in the regular season he has to play in the finals to be on the trophy. If he does, then he will get access to the trophy for 24 hours, and would hopefully bring it back to RIT for what would absolutely be an amazing event.

Most (although not all) of the first time Cup winners bring the trophy either to their hometown or to the town in which they reside rather than their college or Junior team cities... especially when they only played college or in MJ's for one year.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Offseason 2011 - Dreaming About 2011-2012 <<<<<

As long as there is room on the Cup (each team gets a set amount of space), the Canucks can ask the NHL to put more names of guys who didn't automatically qualify. I'd imagine Tanev would be pretty high on the list of guys...behind only Alberts most likely.

"Prior to 1977 only players who had completed the Stanley Cup playoffs were eligible. Today, players appearing in 41 regular-season games or one Stanley Cup Final game for the championship team have their names engraved on the Cup. The NHL makes exceptions for players who do not meet the standard because of injury or other extenuating circumstances." - proicehockey.about.com

There aren't any extenuating cicrumstances around Tanev not being eligible. He has to play in the Finals.

One can hope, though!

Off topic but according to CHN a Rochester, NY school is adding D-III hockey. It will be announced on Friday. My guess is U of R.

I'm really excited about the influx of offense. No offense to the returning members of the team that read this, but I thought that the team underperformed in that area.

I really can't wait for the goaltending "battle" to begin with the talent that the Tigers bring. I also think that now that some of last year's frosh defensemen will play better now that they have had a taste of DI hockey.

If they are adding a women's team too, they'd make great natural rivals to the lady Tigers.

Bet on it being NAZ.
Hopefully it will help save the men's ecac west.

I think it's too late for the ECAC West if Utica joins the SUNYAC.

Link?

If it's true, it can only be one of three schools. Who amongst UR, Fisher, or Nazareth would have the money, motivation, and facilities to do it?
UR has access to Genesee Valley Ice Rink. Fisher and Nazareth aren't too far from Thomas Creek rink in Fairport (I'm not sure, but don't think either has an on-campus ice facility). UR and Fisher currently play club hockey. UR is Div I ACHA. I'm not sure at what level Fisher plays and I don't know for sure of hockey at Naz. UR would probably be the most likely, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Fisher be the one... if that rumor is true, of course. note: I didn't count Roberts Wesleyan because they are NAIA. I don't know if they even could play NCAA hockey if they wanted to.

That is until the Lady Tigers go D-I when the moratorium is lifted.

The new Rochester team may be also considering applying to the SUNYAC as long as they're looking at non-SUNY schools now. Of course with the pending addition of Utica, they'll have a nice even 10 schools and may not want to go to an odd number again.

Fisher has a club team that plays at Thomas Creek I believe. I have seen them practice at ESL though. UR club teams plays at genny valley. I don't think Naz has a club team.

Be interesting to see where they decide to play. Thomas Creek has plans to build a third sheet of ice and workout facilities which makes it more on par with Sports Centre @ MCC (minus incompetent management).

Maybe they'll go Canisius style and play at the Ritter when we get our new barn :)

How many people who are old enough to remember the Rivalry are thinking about "welcoming" Elmira back to town when it happens. I know I would be totally for that if I was still in Rochester.
