Well, that didn't go well. In brighter news, Garbowsky scored in the first period of his ECHL debut.

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

I looked up the 5 minute major for interference call. It was added in the 2014-2016 rule book.

59.2 Interference with Significant Contact - The Referee, at his discretion, may assess the following penalty based on the severity of the contact to a player guilty of interfering with an opponent.

PENALTY – Major. A game misconduct or disqualification may be assessed at the discretion of the referee.

A player delivering a check to an unsuspecting and vulnerable player puts pay particular attention to these examples when applying this rule. These are intended as guidance and include, but are not limited to, the following:
-A player that is reckless;
-A player that has just released a shot or pass;
-A player that is about to receive a pass; or
-A player that delivers a late hit.

I wasn't at the game or watching it, so I can't comment on how legit the call was. Just figured I'd share my findings.

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

(if I may, Tom...) :p ;)

Garbowsky ended up with 2 goals on 3 shots.

First goal was a snipe to the far top corner from the faceoff dot, and the second was off a well-timed pass on a 2-man rush. He looked good out there... LOTS of 'hustle', and fit-in well with the team. Definitely an asset to this Elmira Jackals team... while admittedly it was 'only' a pre-season game, Garbowsky contributed to an impressive offensive showing tonight.

On a side note, even though the game ended with the Jackals winning, the crowd was treated to a 3-on-3 overtime afterwards, which is a great improvement over shootouts (although if tied after the OT, they'll still go to a skills competition).

Also, on the topic of RIT alums, gotta mention Tanev going +4 in Vancouver's first regular-season match against Calgary on Wednesday with an assist and just-about 23min logged on-ice.

Cheers!!!

That was pre-season? Geez, the ECHL is better about providing stats and such for their pre-season games than the NHL is.

As for Tanev, pretty cool to go to the league leaders page on ESPN and see Tanev's mug there :D. This could be a breakout year for him. He got some PP time in game 1 so if his offensive numbers go up and Vancouver plays over expectations, I could see him start to get his (very deserved) due.

EDIT: Bah, Burmistrov tied him in +/- tonight so they have his picture instead of Tanev's now =(

He's been one of the most solid D on that team for two years now and is kind of past the point of being an unknown. Some of his advanced defensive stats are among the best in the league. There's a reason they gave him a 5 year, 22.5 million dollar deal..

Judging from Coach's comments after, neither did he. Not sure you can lay it on Rotolo, but I expect to see Short in goal tonight based on how Coach tends to do things early in the season. There will certainly be some lineup changes as well.

I didn't say he was unknown. I'm talking national recognition. If he gets PP time and increases offensive output, making the all-star game is not out of the realm of possibility, for example.

Was not expecting that final score. Hoping for a different outcome tonight.

After 2-0, I was thinking they'd come back or lose 3-1 but they couldn't clear the zone when they needed to and eventually, the D collapsed and goals were scored.

Way to start the goalie controversy conversation so early in the season! :D

I think Wilson switches things up this season and sees how Rotolo responds tonight. If he doesn't, well then, you might see Short get some time.

I guess it's hard to deny that when you lose 6-0 as opposed to the 2-0, 3-1 that you mentioned before, that the emphasis on the next game becomes a wee bit more important. We all sit up in our seats a little bit, pay a little more attention and say that the previous game was just a fluke. I believe the team will put forth a solid effort tonight. I do also think that even if we lose, as long as it is an improved effort, this is what we seem to do every year. I agree with you that Wilson will use this game to mix and match and try to get the right guys on the ice to start building the right lines as we approach conference play.

Pitchforks down, boys. Rotolo is in net again tonight.

RIT is trailing 2-0 with 6 minutes left in the 2nd.

My point is that Coach typically rotates goalies early in the season. Remember, last year MacLean started game 2 last year, and that was after Rudy got a win.

Better second period but we're getting outshot pretty bad.

Yeah, you are correct as it's been his method for as long as I can remember in these early games until he decides on who the starter will be. Looks like he went the Rotolo route tonight however. I think he's trying to give Rotolo some confidence after last nights blow-out.

I think the message is that Rotolo is the reigning #1 goalie until Wilson determines otherwise. With two freshmen behind him it's unlikely Wayne is planning a full time platoon. He wants Rotolo as the starter.
