Hat tip to Ivan Lennon for the previous post about the SLU feed, was able to watch their feed muted and the RIT radio guys. Worked well.

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

Well, 11 goals allowed in two games. I am not worried yet because both of these teams will be ranked come tomorrow. That being said, allowing that many goals means our offense cannot keep the puck and is depending way too much on the defense to bring the puck to them. The defense can only do so much, the forwards need to maintain possession. I am glad we are playing these OOC games in the begining so Coach Wilson can play with the lines. We lost a lot of fire power... Give it a few weeks.

I was on mute most of the game but for the short time I listened, the SLU guys were actually pretty good, at one point commenting on the improvement in RIT's penalty kill as compared to Friday night. Wish the AHA teams had a similar free setup and linked it up to their radio stations.

ECAC webcast policies vary per school - e.g., some, unlike SLU and Clarkson , charge for the feed

Most Ivy League sports, including ECAC hockey, are also available for a fee

Now if we could only get RIT into the ECAC....
However your existing league arrangement arguably smooths the way to a more likely Sweet 16 appearance.

Did anyone go to games this weekend or want to share their insight on why there are struggles of this magnitude?

From what I saw of the game on Saturday it just looked like we were playing a bigger, faster, more skilled team. We didn't have a whole lot of great chances, very few times was their goalie called on to make anything but an average level save. Meanwhile Rotolo had to make a lot of great saves and ultimately couldn't save them all.

It was pretty clear why these are ranked teams and we aren't...but that being said we have a lot of room to improve on special teams and offensively.

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

The biggest disappointment to me was that the strength of the team was supposed to be the defense, and they got it handed to them this weekend. I figured it might take a couple games to get the offense going. Granted, the exhibition game made it look like the offense was going to be ok. Luckily, there are two more weeks of non-conference games to try and get things straightened before real season begins.

On the second goal, it looked to me that the defenseman was slow to react to the faster SLU player charging down he the right side and a quick goal was had.

Defense is clearly an issue early in the season but hopefully there's room for improvement.

Do not think you can single out the defence alone on this weekend, being outscored 11 -1 there is enough disappointment to go round. The season is not won or lost on the opening few weekends so plenty of time to tinker with the pairings both front and back and come out harder in the next one.

Not to bring up the topic of jumping to ECAC at the start of the season...:)

I believe most of the regular RIT posters on this forum would prefer a jump to the ECAC. It would better align RIT with the other schools in the Liberty League of which I'm sure you know that SLU, Clarkson, Union and RPI are members.

As to the road to the NCAA's just looking at the ECAC's OOC record after this weekend (best winning percentage among all leagues) shows that any team finishing near the top of the standings in the ECAC will have a shot at getting a bid.

Until those realignment talks surface again (who knows when), you are correct, with a lousy OOC record, RIT will have to make it to the BCA at the end of the season, and win the AHC Championship.

Hey there....I was just pointing out one play that really stood out for me in response to the previous quote. For both games, clearing the zone was a problem which lead to too many goal opportunities for Clarkson and SLU and the final scores reflect that. Maybe you were disappointed that I didn't recap of every defensive play over the weekend and for that, I am truly sorry!

As far as your lecture on when the season is won or lost, you must also have me confused with somebody else as I have never given much weight to these early OOC games as an indication of the season ahead. I've also posted several times and very deep into the season (some good, some bad) that the conference games are much more important to the Tigers as well as every other AHA team when it comes to playing beyond the regular season and that Coach Wilson will make the needed adjustments to put the Tigers in contention for a trip to the BCA and beyond.

I'll trade a few losses early in the season for conference wins and a run in the AHA tournament. Anyone thinking these OOC games were going to be easy to win is fooling themselves. It's not a shock the offense struggled. The surprise is that the defense had difficulty and that was supposed to be the strength.

Just added a comment not directed at anyone, mistakenly thought this was a forum to discuss everything hockey..lol.

Will comment on other threads where posters enjoy openly discussing everything hockey, rather than accusing posters of lecturing in order to curb discussion. Good luck on your season, no offence intended i think RIT is a very good team and is odds on favourite, but obviously my comments are not welcome on this thread. Enjoy the season.

Komey1 i would agree with you wholeheartedly, in conference are the ones that count. Cheers my friend.

Talk all the hockey you want, but you responded with my quote and spoke directly to it so I could only assume hat you were directing your comments to me. Oh by the way, nobody said that your comments aren't welcome and not speaking for anybody else but myself but you should be prepared for a response to what you write about in this thread or any other on this site as passions can run and will run high as the season goes on.

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

Quiet in here... :)

I sincerely hope that Ballroomblitz starts a Mercyhurst thread as I've always looked upon Ballroomblitz as a Mercyhurst fan based on his/or hers previous posts, and there is nothing wrong with that. We need more AHC teams represented on this board other than ourselves and our Bentley friends. That said if I post on Bentley's thread you won't find me offering any constructive criticisms to whatever might be ailing Bentley, that's not my place, I'm an RIT fan. I have nothing but respect for those guys.

Anyway, that's all water under the bridge. Latest polls show Bowling Green as #10. I'm sure coach has a plan to take on his alma mater. Perhaps one thing that we have going for us is that Bowling Green has a game today and Friday before facing RIT on Saturday. Long week for them, maybe we can take advantage of that at the drop of the puck.

Could be a double edged sword though. What if everyone in the conference scheduled their OOC games after the mid-season break? Could mean the AHC would perform better.

It would be very difficult to get games if they tried to do that. Other than some holiday tournaments, teams really want to stay in conference after the early part of the season.

I can't imagine too many of us deluding ourselves into thinking that any OOC games would be easy. But losing 6-0 and 5-1 is a tough pill to swallow, and those two teams (at least for the moment) aren't expected to be amongst the elite nationally. Yes, I know St. Lawrence is ranked, but I don't really consider # 19 (out of 60) as being too significant, especially this early in the season. We'll see how the season plays out. Maybe they're both better than expected.
Let's just hope the Tigers learned whatever lessons they need to learn from the weekend and use them to come together through the coarse of the conference schedule like they did last year. Now at least they can be pretty sure that the rest of the OOC games don't matter at all with regards to potential NCAA post season chances. So when they play BG, BC, etc, they really have nothing to lose. They should play like it and then who knows...?

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

Bowling Green lost last night (4-1 to Western Michigan, about even shots, gave up 2 PPG) and they have Canisius next this Friday. Hopefully Saturday will setup for RIT as a nothing to lose effort and the boys will put together a solid effort. The last two Brick City's I thought were 'tall orders' for RIT against Michigan and BC (should of beat Penn State the year before). I thought the team was very tight early in both games (although the goal outburst in the 2nd period against Michigan was terrific). Hoping for a different outcome this time around but regardless I'm sure it will be loud, orange and crazy like it always seems to be.
