>>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

I hope so, but I'm not so sure Torts is the key to unlocking Tanev's offense. He had a killer lineup that SHOULD have been an offensive juggernaut in NY, but instead couldn't dent the twine to save their lives. We'll see.

Well if he lets Tanev cross the red line more than a handful of times a game then he's already doing a better job at it than AV.

Tanev's strengths lie in his defense and ability to make that first pass accurately out of the zone. Despite what we saw at the NCAA level, he has not been a prolific scorer in the AHL or NHL and I don't think he ever will be. Tort's system will allow his defensive strengths to come out and hopefully make a name for himself as a stable blue liner.

Yes those are definitely strengths of his, no doubt. But he's also capable of producing much more offensively. Vancouver D plays a different system, offensively, than RIT. RIT's system was a great fit for Tanev and if Torts' system is closer to RIT's then Tanev is gonna be better off, offensively.

Changing the topic. I was not able to attend the Rochester Red Wings game last night, but they showed the jerseys that the Men's team will wear for frozen frontier.

Kind of an old-school style with updated iconography. But I find the gray base positively baffling. The only thing I can think of is it looks like a cross between a 1980's hockey sweater and a baseball road uniform.

As for as playing favorites - that's not uncommon for coaches to do. AV was definitely guilty of that and Tanev thrived despite it.

Obviously you are not familiar with Torts coaching style if you are making any type of comparison between the mind games Torts plays and those of AV. Torts is in a class all of his own.

However, Sullivan along with Torts does have a history of developing borderline defensemen into solid blueliners and solid defensemen into excellent defensemen. So I am sure that Tanev will certainly improve his game as long as he is mentally tough enough.

This will happen as Torts demands that everyone play defensively responsible hockey and I am sure that will allow Tanev's defensive abilities to shine.

What Vancouver played and what they will play as a defensive system is now going to change. Based upon history, Torts will instill a much more tighter defensive style with Vancouver and will require the D to play a strong defensive game first and all offensive will be an afterthought for them.

And I kind of like the new sweaters although I am also a bit baffled by the gray.

The NE corner of the bowl is going in.

Re: >>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

Fun stage to the rink construction due to the progress we can see each day... the steel goes up really fast, like framing a house. We'll see big changes every day for a while. Looks like the rink will be very similar to the renderings on the web site... rounded roof, 12 rows of seats, etc. The bowl looks like it's going to be slightly steeper than the rendering though! :)
For clarity: The Corner Crew will now be in the southeast corner, right?

The Corner Crew will be on the home team side on the south end. Last I knew that would make it the South WEST side. The Tigers will shoot on the south end 2 times. Again that was the last I knew. Many changes have happened in the mean time.

Anyone want to run out there and figure out the pitch of the seating bowl? They look a bit steeper on the webcam since you don't have a side-on angle.

Also, I think there is enough of an outline of the ice itself to figure out the distance to the ice.

Together, with a little leg work, some industrious CC member could sketch up a direct comparison of pitch and distance between Polisseni and Ritter and put some rest to the discussions here.

My eyeball guess from driving by this AM, is that both pitch and distance are about the same (which, of course was a stated goal in the design). The advantage comes in rows, 12 vs. 5-6, which, if full will make a great atmosphere.

Here's how it looks as of about five minutes ago on the webcam:

Torts won't help Tanev's game one bit but he could certainly hurt it a lot.

However, Sullivan along with Torts does have a history of developing borderline defensemen into solid blueliners and solid defensemen into excellent defensemen. So I am sure that Tanev will certainly improve his game as long as he is mentally tough enough.

...so which one is it?

I was obviously referring to the offensive side of Tanev's game in the first and the defensive side in the second. And clearly giving credit to Sullivan for said development. That help make it clear for you?

Re: >>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

Time to move the construction webcam, or cut down that dang tree.

Things are definitely starting to take shape.

This is very exciting to see. Even more impressive when you get up close.
