>>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

Re: >>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

Steel being unloaded now, including some pieces that look like they might be for the seating bowl. If they are, it sure looks like they have a nice and steep angle, with 10 rows.

Re: >>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

Isn't the Corner Crew in the north west corner in Ritter? Pretty sure it's north west.

Yes, I was a little mixed up this AM. Came back to fix that, but I figured I would have already been corrected. Thanks.

So if the new corner-crew location is south west corner in Polessini, then that is "the other side of the ice" and assuming that is the "shoot twice" end, that means the new Corner will be where Ritter's concession stand is (relative to the ice, that is). Not sure why, but that kind of bothers me. (And, yes, I know that was where the CC was way back in the old days.)

Either I'm confused by what I'm reading, or you're still having issues with cardinal directions.

If the Corner Crew ends up on the south end it would be because they decided to flip the home/away directions from Ritter, so we'd be shooting twice on the opposite goal we do now. If the Corner Crew were to properly flip, they'd end up in the south east. That would give you the same perspective you have now, with the corner crew being to the opposing goalies right side for two periods.

I feel like this would be easier with a diagram.

Yes, south east would be the same perspective as now, but BigGoon said it was going to be south west, which would flip the perspective (what I was trying to say).

I do think the shoot twice end is moving to the south, but my preference would be to keep the same perspective and put the CC in the south east (as opposed to current north west).

(Then my current seating could remain across from the corner crew with RIT shooting twice in front of me AND shooting toward my right, not left.)

Sorry to post on top of myself, but it is just amazing how quickly the steel is going in. Gonna have to go over and take a peek in person.

Wish the stream wasn't blocked at work :(

It's a one year deal. He probably needs to show more offensive skill though.

Not to get too off on an NHL tangent here, but the Canucks were rumored to be in talks with Douglas Murray. I doubt it's a coincidence that the day he signed instead with Montreal the Canucks picked up Tanev.

I'm surprised, really, I thought Vancouver was really high on Tanev's play but it seems like they aren't so much anymore.

Re: >>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

I saw a comment on a different article that it's actually Tanev cutting the Canucks a break because of their financial situation. If he has a good season, he'll be in line for a better longer-term deal if Vancouver can reduce expenses.

That and he's still an RFA, so they own his rights for the next 3-4 years anyway...so that gives him a few years to establish himself at the blue line and really earn that big money contract.

If Vancouver isn't as excited about Tanev it's because Vineault didn't use him right. It's not a coincidence that he finally started putting up some points once AV actually let him play in the offensive zone. I'm thinking with Torts in Van this season Tanev will get a much better chance to show his strengths. I think now that AV is out Tanev's going to benefit big time

He will still be a RFA but he will have arbitration rights at the end of this one year contract, meaning he could make the big bucks as early as next year.

I hope so, but I'm not so sure Torts is the key to unlocking Tanev's offense. He had a killer lineup that SHOULD have been an offensive juggernaut in NY, but instead couldn't dent the twine to save their lives. We'll see.

Re: >>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

Torts won't help Tanev's game one bit but he could certainly hurt it a lot. If Torts decides he likes a young player then great for said player, however if he does not then said player will be jerked around so much he will be lucky to keep his mental faculties together.

Now Mike Sullivan could do great things for Tanev's game. He's the real mastermind when it came to the NYR defense. But he's probably not going to help Tanev's offensive side of the game either.

As for as playing favorites - that's not uncommon for coaches to do. AV was definitely guilty of that and Tanev thrived despite it.

As for whether Tortorella will help Tanev's game - I think just getting more/different opportunities under a different coach will help Tanev. It's not that I think AV disliked Tanny, he just mistakenly put his trust in (favored) others.
