Found the following article on Danny Smith, he had a scholarship offer from Alaska-Anchorage ...

http://www.sherwoodparkcrusaders.ca/media-centre/news-archives.html?newsID=1795

And one for Todd Skirving - http://www.sfstampede.com/news_article/show/193255?referrer_id=627591-news

This line from the Smith article was fun to read:

“It’s exciting. RIT is a really good school with a really good hockey program,” Fragle said. “They’re one of the most sought-after places to play in the NCAA."

:)

Not to pick on you, but these are comments I read on the board that makes me wonder if I am watching the same game as everyone else. I am really confused given that this year RIT has 3 guys in the top 10 of point getters. They have 2 players in the top ten for goal scouring. Compare to last year team they have scored 41 goals compare to 30 last year. That’s all most a goal and half more a game. And overall they score the 4th most goals in the league. BTW, this despite the leader goal scorer from last year missing half the games they’ve played so far. So we are going to complain that we have all these points, but they don’t come from just one line. I really think us RIT fans are starting to invent our own traumas…

The other side of it is having goaltending numbers with the 8th and 15th ranked goaltenders in goals against average and 13th and dead last in save percentage. I do not blame it all on goaltending, seems to be in the minority here too. Despite the horrible save percentage numbers, RIT as a team has the 4th most saves of any teams in the AHA. Does it take a mathematic degree is figure out why???

The reasons are many but I think these two stats say it all for RIT's season so far:

Team Offense: Tie for 18th
Team Defense: 58th.

Ok, first of all...
2012-13 Goals through 11 games: 33
2011-12 Goals through 11 games: 26
If you want to count Canadien exhibition games, be my guest. I don't.
Yes, this year's team has scored more goals than last year's to this point, but not all that many (and btw: my comparisons were between the last two Tigers teams and teams in previous years, not between this and last year's teams). I'm sure we could debate all week long about who they have played and when during these two 11 game stretches, but I would posit that our competition has not been as strong defensively this year as last to this point of the season. There were two games this season against pre-season # 3 Michigan, but look at where they are now: # 39, if I read this week's USCHO article on them correctly. And even at that, the 5 goal outburst is still the highest scoring game of the season. The difference between this year and last is that they haven't faced Union and Niagara (and even a poor RPI team with good goaltending) to get shutout three times. Yes, last year's team had offensive deficiencies as well, maybe more. But if you look at 2009 and 2010, the Tigers scored 38 and 34 goals through 11 games, more on par with this season. Now that might seem to refute my claims to some (obviously to you), but if you read the entire post, you would have seen that I acknowledged that this team plays its style well enough and has enough hockey talent to generate lots of pressure, pile up the shots on goal, and even score some at a fair pace. But when it comes to NEEDING a goal, it never seems to come. There are plenty of guys who CAN score and do at times, but not many who CONSISTENTLY DO score and put fear into the opponents come crunch time. So I never argued that RIT isn't able to score. I am also not against having three or four lines capable of scoring goals. The more the merrier. But my point remains that that without that one pair or three-some of true elite level offensive players (at least by AHA standards) leading the way through the force of their talent, will, and leadership, it makes winning a bit tougher... especially when the goaltending isn't in that elite status either. RIT has talented players, but they do not (at least NOT YET) have a Lambert, Smith, Brenner, Favot, Tanev, Ringwald, Maybury, Toll, Bournazakis, Palmer, etc, leading them... at least from an outsider's point of view. Maybe they have characters like that in the room, but as far as output on the ice, it's not obvious. As far as the scoring rankings (I'm guessing you're quoting AHA leaders - too lazy to look it up right now), it is early in the season and as opposed to a number of teams, RIT has yet to face too many of the elite goaltenders in the conference - good ones, but no Chubak or Bartus or Madolora types - YET.

"Not to pick on you, but..." (which means I'm about to pick on you, actually)... A goal differential of 11 through 11 games equals a goal and a half more per game? Your math resembles your spelling :p

I did not want to single you out, you are not the only one saying that, just had the best quote to make my point. All though I do need more sleep it appears. I actually counted the exhibition games from this year and last year. So its 12 games, but I must have plugged something in too fast or read something wrong, you are correct it is more closer to a goal extra a game. BTW, that also included 3 times they got shutout and two 1 goal showings. They have not been held to that low of a scoring output at all in 12 games this year. Last year you had one guy score double digits in goals. This year there are 4 guys on pace to get double digit points. And as Colavecchia's games played number goes up I believe he will be a double digit goal scored. Colavecchia by the way finished with 14 Goals last years. Mitchell and Smith are on pace to flirt with the 20 Goal mark. There much more balance scoring this year.

People want to say Mads would have saved RIT two goals a game this year based on his save percentage. Well if you take into account the added offense you add a win and 2 ties to last years first 12 games. Guys really, I read comments that the quality of players on the team have gone down. 4 of the recurits this year are from the highly sought USHL (1 an NHL Draft pick) and rest from BCHL and NAHL. I know some guys like to stick their noses up toe NAHL, but I am still awaiting their explanation on Air Force taking a lot of players from the NAHL.

There are no guys that Wayne is settling on, these are guys he is targeting. They did not get onto these Junior Teams by luck. The talent level has gone up, problem is RIT got hit hard on the Defensive end, they are trying to bring Freshman up to speed quickly and some returning players have had disapointing starts. Guys like a Tanev, Brenner, Ringwald, Pinizzotto, and Lambert are not going to bust out as easily as they have in the past. This league has gotten much better the last couple of seasons. In the long run RIT will be fine, every program hits a bump in the road sometimes. But I know that blaming the quality of players coming in is just plain crazy. They've brought in some good talent, if you wan the guy who is going to be NHL ready right after his RIT career, then I suggest you contact Bill Destler and give him the magic formula to get RIT to all DI so they can offer scholorships. Contact info is at http://www.rit.edu/president/contact.php...

Wait are we kind of agreeing?? What the heck is going on, nothing is as it normally is this year. Anyone else find their drinking level increasing???

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

One think I think we can all be thankful for is that there are quite a few of us on the board that care about RIT hockey. We may not agree with each other, but I think that makes it intereting.

As TTF would say: Cheers!

Yeah, I think we are. Good god, what is this like 4 or 5 time this year!!

The one thing I do disagree with you about is the talent level of the Freshman and Sophomores. So far, I haven't seen anything from them on a consistent basis that makes me think there is anything special there. And I am disappointed that Wilson couldn't turn that FF run into something more with recruits. I will say that I hope I am wrong and am eating these words by this time next season. :)

I had a dream that RIT beat Clarkson 3-2. Wouldn't that be nice?

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

Lots of positives to take away from tonight.

Defense looked a lot better and Watty was looking like an elite goalie most of the night. Offense continued to look solid.

Would have been nice to get the W but the effort tonight was really good and hopefully a sign of things to come.

Two interesting notes from the WITR post game.

Although Wilson wouldn't come right out and confirm before watching the tape, he mentioned after tonight he would be "leaning towards" Watson for Air Force next weekend, which would make his third start in a row.

Coach also mentioned that Smith may have fractured his elbow during the game, which is not good news for tiger fans.

Also, whenever we host an ECAC school, particularly one that travels well like Clarkson, I can't help but dream of how great it would be to be a member of that league. Great schools, knowledgeable and supportive fans, good facilities and a lot of tradition.

I always look forward to making a road trip or two to some of the ECAC schools RIT schedules each year, just wish I could do so on a regular basis.

There may have legitimately been more green than orange in the Ritter tonight (because in my estimation, most of the RIT "fans" did not seem to be regulars) and it makes for such a great atmosphere to have a little opposition in your house. I really wish the fan support existed in the AHA (RIT included, I really don't see many students traveling often without a bus trip.)

Obviously we aren't going anywhere, so this is probably a futile exercise on my part, but I just can't help but think of what could have been.... *Cough* RPI *Cough*

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

In terms of the fans, it kind of shows how much support RIT gets from students, and since they were on break and not here, Clarkson fans and non-regulars were more the norm. Me and my parents were later than normal and were shocked at how empty the Corner Crew was.

Watson stole that point for RIT, and I thought he deserved to be one of the 3 stars. He made one of those jaw dropping saves in the third when Clarkson seemed to have an empty net to shoot at.

McGowen getting on the scorecard was a good sight. RIT will definately need him to pick it up with the injuries to Smith and Hamburg.

Air Force seems vulnerable lately, so this may a be a great chance to steal a point or two on the road before the home games against Sacred Heart.

What happened to Hamburg?

Hamburg hurt his hand in practice. Wilson thought a couple of weeks to recover.

There's something to be said for working on our own traditions. If we do our job right, in 20 years people will be extolling the fans and tradition of the Atlantic Hockey Association.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

I saw some positives last night, but still…

RIT will not consistently win period unless they figure a way not to allow 40 shots a game. If they win at all, WITR guys should put their stat guy on what RIT’s record is in the D-I era when allowing 40 or more shots.

I hear what people are saying about some other areas of play with this team, but I still see the problem solving lynch pin being the blue liners of this team. It is not just the shot being giving up, but what has also started to make me talk to myself during the games is RIT’s break out passes. That first touch and pass is so important, the other team’s defense is going to cause you enough disruptions you don’t want to start out your rush by disrupting yourself.

Good example I was about to steal DiTullio’s Telestrator last night was when Descoteaux was breaking out from behind his net, Clarkson gave RIT the center of the ice. It was a great 3 on 2 chance. His pass, which was not pressured, was way of the mark and went right to a Clarkson defenseman who quick turned the play around and Clarkson ended up with a good scoring chance or two and bottled up RIT’s top line in the RIT zone for a minute and basically lost any chance of producing anything that shift. Now this an example that I can put just about any RIT defenseman in, and I actually think Nolan has been one of the better Defenseman this year.

On the forward end, they need to get a better feeling for finding rebounds. First Clarkson goal happen off a great rebound chance which went a little higher than Hartley (I think it was him) was and resulted in the 2 on 1 rush. I did start to see more grit from this team as the game went on. For a good part of it though Clarkson was much more physical and just pushing RIT off pucks. RIT had fits when it got to physical encounters with Clarkson. However when the forwards get loose they are very dangerous.

Watson played well, would like better rebound control, but I think is coming on well, just need to NOT give up 40 shots…
