Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

Apparently taking 3 of 4 points last weekend has quieted some of the criticisms, and debates. Here are a few observations.

1-It's a long season, and the AHA has more parity than ever. Take a deep breath.
2-Hockey is so much a game of raw emotion and physically demanding play. That makes it a game of streaks. Get used to the streaks.
3-Defense should be viewed as a team endeavor. Offense is more about talent, creativity, and individual effort.
4-Re the goalie situation: change gives the illusion of progress.
5- RIT lost a whole shipload of players and talent after last season. Let's give these kids a chance to gel. I see promise.

I'm Ken, and I approve this posting.

BTW guys, I got a note from popular former player the other night slamming everyone including me on some of the comments made of this year's team. Seems to feel many where panicing to much and being unfair to this years team. Just a thought...

Well it's not like we were saying these guys suck. The consensus is that they aren't gelling yet, and our defense seems a bit weak. I don't think either one can legitimately be denied at this point.

Not to be too much of a jerk but I should care because?

I agree. To the best of my memory I don't recall reading anything personal about the players, just that they are not playing well right now which I don't think anyone will deny. Yeah, play of the D and goalies are being singled out but for good reason. To the degree that people are concerned is the debate. I don't see anything wrong with that. Some people are "panicing" and some have a more confident approach. It was makes things fun around here. I don't read these Boards to see everyone writing the same thing and agreeing all the time. Heck, I rarely agree with Tom but I enjoy our debates. I guess maybe we need a "pro-RIT ice hockey no matter what happens" thread? ;) :D

@SMadolora: if anyone wants to see the alleged message "slamming everyone" let me know because that is the farthest from the truth #whataclownthatguyis*

Well was trying to be respectful, but at this point not sure how I can make him happy. So if he wants it shown off...

some funny fiction you have here...
"But we are not talking about a guy who ever really stole a game or even won the big playoff game."... must have forgotten about double Overtime victory against bentley followed by a shut out in game 3... or niagara overtime win at blue cross. our teams goals for average in 2011-2012 was 2.5 a game. If i dont ever steal a game last year or in my career we dont even make it to the second round of playoffs or bca last year. Oh almost forgot about uconn at bca two years ago in the semi finals...

You fans and alumni are what makes playing hockey and attending RIT so great, but when people start making ill advised comments, such as yours, on message boards it puts a damper on the entire experience and memories of playing at RIT.

I dont play for RIT anymore so you can say anything on message boards about me you want. Its not going to affect me or how I play hockey. but give some of the guys a break. ya the goaltending may be struggling right now. They will come around. It takes time to adjust from not playing every weekend to playing every weekend.

I only read the message boards about once every couple of months to see how the teams doing from some of the fans perspective, but its disappointing as a former player and alumni to see almost every post ripping the team apart.

Slamming may have been too strong of a word, but I think we get the disappointment idea...

And for the record maybe my standards are too high for stealing a game watching Hasek and Miller for so many years in Buffalo. For those who know me, I only thought my buddy from Oswego only came close twice to stealing games, to me a stealing of a game is when your team is completely out played and you hold them to a 1-0 or 2-1 games. Shane did not have that many chances for that as RIT played well in front of him many games. Maybe what I consider a steal is debatable. But what I not debatable is I would love to have Shane in net any night of the week, he is in my top 3 all time best goaltenders I have seen at RIT going back to 1998. I thought I had made that clear and regert that point was lost...

It amazes me the E-Mails, run-ins, IMs, and now Tweets, that I generate from coaches and players from RIT and other teams just being a guy on the message board just here trying to have a good time and saying what I think. See my sign off at the end if you still don't get it...

Good times!

I thought the rules were as follows:

Game 1 to 6 - watch and listen as the sky falls

Game 7 to end of season - watch team come together and climb the standings, getting a bye week along the way.

Play-offs to BCA and beyond - Play well and make it to the finals at the BCA. Win there and everybody's excited, lose and part of the sky falls again.

Everybody has their opinion and are affected by wins\losses in different ways. I don't think as a player or fan, that you can take what others say too hard. Fans will be critical of players and players will think fans can get their lazy butts on the ice and give it a try. I've done both in my younger days (local league play) and it's not an easy thing.

Main thing is to sit back and enjoy the games and be glad to be rooting for a team that gives you something to root for.

Anyway, looking forward to this weekend and the drive down to Worcester for that weekend games.

Seems "farthest from the truth" to me.

Not that anyone cares, but the whole exchange from a former player and alumnus, including a shot at his team's offensive performance, looks bizarre.

Well, drama aside (anyone see Burt's epic rant to Shane?) it's time to look toward the weekend.

Assuming the goalie platoon remains intact, we'll have Ruby on Friday and Watson on Saturday.

If RIT gets 4 points this weekend, I suspect everyone will take a deep breath and be fine Sunday morning. I would accept taking 3, so long as the tie was to Mercyhurst. A loss is unacceptable at home, we've already gotten our 1 home conference loss out of us.

Both our opponents have pretty solid teams this year. Nothing new for Mercyhurst, but it's been awhile since Canisius was a legitimate threat at the Ritter. Team is going to have to show a full 60 minute effort both nights but if they continue to improve upon what we saw in Springfield, with the help of the crowd, this team gets 4 points.

I see no reason to change yet. Maybe soon one of them will emerge as the #1, but that hasn't happened yet in my opinion.

If they do this then there will be nothing to worry about in my mind. I think that has been the biggest issue so far in this season. The key is I am not positive they have done so yet. I think they did in the second AIC game, but I am not positive as I didn't see the game and thus can't know for sure.

Accidentally posted this in the wrong thread!

At the Polisseum groundbreaking, I took a couple of pictures of the seat-mockups they had on hand. The image gives us an idea of the planned seating-bowl pitch. It IS shallower than Ritter, but by how much is hard to gauge.

Who says that will be the pitch? Maybe they are just showing off the seating options?

If they just wanted to show off the seats, why go to the trouble of tiering it like that?

So.. finger still firmly on the panic button. Despite that being a close game, we can't sustain a season where our goalies have a GAA of 4. Teams like Niagara and AFA are going to make a joke of us.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

Can I hit the panic button now? Can I, can I, can I??? ;):D

Seriously, I thought the Tigers played pretty well except for some lapse in the D. The 4th Mercyhurst goal looked pretty weak but maybe Ruby was screened.

And to me it seemed like the team played with a lot of energy in the last half of the game, but the energy looked unfocused. Lots of hard skating around but also lots of sloppy passes and missed opportunities. And there was a lacking of checking.

And it didn't help that they had to kill off that 5 minute major to start the 3rd. But it was a good penalty call. That kind of killed the momentum.

I thought Ruby played OK. Nothing special that makes me think he's stepping up to be the #1. But nothing that makes me think he shouldn't get another start unless Watson amazed tomorrow night.
