Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

i swear this forum has gone into a panic like this every year since 06 or so. things will turn around, keep the faith.
Amen.

That's because this team always starts off slow, and it's getting annoying. Can't we start off well for once and maintain that momentum, instead of having to claw our way back into it?

That said, I'm hardly pushing the panic button. (Not 'til after tonight's game!)

You're right. I knew he got a full night off in a NC game this year, figured it was the Union game. Turns out he just allowed 6 goals in 23 minutes in that game. Oops.

The first four goals Union had were beautiful. All off metal. The next two seemed unexplainable from my viewpoint, which is why he got pulled.

Should listen to the AIC media guys on B2, they are very impressed with RIT tonight, think they believe that RIT finish above 500 this year...

RIT one period away from a solid 60 minute of hockey...

Okay, I know that everyone is confused after a win so my best advice is take you hand off the panic button and just polish it for another week. If your smart you toss it out the window...

Careful, Air Force did lose to Holy Cross last night, don't want to give them any ideas...

Good complete 60 minutes of hockey, hope RIT builds on it and brings some momentum into next weekend at home against Mercyhurst and Canisius.

Great rebound game tonight. Good to see the defense held them to 19 shots, and Watson got a shutout. Both of those should prove to be big confidence builders.

Not going to take too much away from this though. AIC is a team we're supposed to beat. Glad to get the 2 points tonight, though.

Phew! The best our power play has looked in a long time. It actually looked dangerous! Loved the Saracino and Colavecchia goals tonight. Those two played really well together. They need to be on the ice together a lot this season. The penalty kill was good too. Not to mention the solid goaltending and defense. Finally some positive signs!

Careful, Air Force did lose to Holy Cross last night, don't want to give them any ideas...

And then Air Force smoked them last night.......

Anyway, now that the seasons well underway, it's time for the Tigers to start climbing in the standings and give Niagara a run for their money.

Niagara seems to be the class of the league right now. They have allowed only 1 goal in their 3 conference games. Army is off to a nice start, but we will see if it is sustainable. I"m not sure what to make of Air Force's slow start - but they may have turned it around with that beatdown of Holy Cross in the second game. Points will be at a premium. I will bet that it will only take at most 35 points to win the conference, but it may take 31 to get that first round bye.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

As someone that was actually at both the games this last weekend I wanted to throw my $0.02 in. The whole team was really sloppy Friday night. In many ways we were lucky that it was AIC and we were able to pull out the tie. Several times, we had forwards throw no look passes across the ice that somehow snuck through the legs of an otherwise perfectly placed AIC defender who would have been set for a footrace straight to our goal. How AIC didn't capitalize on at least one of those I have no idea. The goals that did get through looked like defensive breakdowns to me just like what buried them with Penn State.

Saturday, was completely different. The passing in that game was more reminiscent of what where I expect the team to be in January. There were a couple of issues here and there, but the team just played with more confidence. I only thought Watson was really tested about 3 times all night. Everything else a D1 goalie should be totally expected to handle. I wonder why Ruby didn't get the same treatment. The only minor gripe I had was it seemed to me like Schuler must have said something mean about Colavecchia's mom before the game because Colavecchia just would not pass to him. Several times I thought Schuler was in great position and Colavecchia would wait for someone else to get open and pass to them. Don't know if anyone else noticed this though? It probably is just that they haven't had enough time to get chemistry together and Colaveccia isn't anticipating where Schuler is going to be yet. But it was interesting to watch.

Other thoughts, aside from being the most fridged place I've watched hockey since before Hobart closed in their rink, AIC's rink really could be a great fan experience if a lot of people were in there. (I'm sure more fans wouldn't help the locker room issue, but that's another thing) I know it's a ways a way, but it would be great to randomly pack that place sometime in the future. Then again, it's a hell of a drive from Rochester, and the DJ really sucks (so bad the rink staff was complaining.) I don't know, I guess I just find it funny when we turn other peoples rinks orange, and I don't get to see that as often since I moved east.

They seem to think they are the class of the league charging more than the minor league baseball team in Buffalo for a seat and about as much as the Bandits charge. Niagara is going to be in the hunt for the top spot but they are not that far ahead of anyone in this league. They have a very favorable schedule, give them credit for holding off Mercyhurst 3-2 at home, but it also nice then to follow that up with two against UCONN at home. However getting that extra point that the Tigers lost to AIC this wekend means the Tigers are going to have to make it in the Western Pod somewhere, I expect a lot of 1-1-1 records when it comes to head to head in the Western Pod. I still think in the end this is going to end up being at least a 3 of the 4 teams who survive to Blue Cross will be from the West. And in a single elmination game anything can and will happen. So cheers! If we don't panic to much to early this will be a fun year...

BTW guys, I got a note from popular former player the other night slamming everyone including me on some of the comments made of this year's team. Seems to feel many where panicing to much and being unfair to this years team. Just a thought...

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

Some people thought UConn could be a dark horse to make a move as they ramp up to Hockey East. Back to back shutouts are hard against the same team (yes I know we saw it at RIT).

Hopefully, the defense had a nice confidence boost with that shutout. Most likely Ruby will get the draw against the Lakers, with Watson against the more offensively challenged Canisius. Taking care of business at home is huge. If RIT can get the 2 wins, I think that will set them up niceley for the year.

Wish I could be in Rochester this weekend to watch the Tigers but I'll get a good look at Niagara when they play Army. Niagara won't want to drop a point to an eastern pod team and the cadets may have something to prove, hopefully it will be interesting. Understand the 2nd game is on Time Warner, you'll see me, hard to miss being the only guy wearing orange....lol.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

I know Lerch and others are keen to crown Niagara already. I'm just not sure why. They have played all their conference games at home. They only beat Mercyhurst by a single goal (2-1) and beating UConn is frankly unimpressive. Sure, they outscored them 8-0, but it's still just 4 points from a Western pod team, at home, against an Eastern pod team. It would be more shocking if they did anything less.

As much as we are concerned about the Tigers, rightfully so, I don't think we should be too worried about Niagara or anyone else running away with the league after a whole 3 conference games. Let's see how they do against Holy Cross, Air Force, RIT, and Bentley.

Edit: Also, I think we have a lot to be decided as far as Bentley and Army this year. Army finally, for the first time in recent memory, has a scoring line. If Army can score goals, they can beat anyone, and they have thus far shown pretty good games (Penn State not withstanding). They straight up crushed a Holy Cross team that just split with Air Force out in Colorado. We could see a legitimate rise from the Eastern pod this year.

Let not forget that Niagara has not been so good in OOC games, if they had fans who didn't only care about Basketball then they would be all over that. Niagara did return a good core and was hot down the stretch last season, maybe makes them a slight favorite, but honestly 4 strong teams that would not surprise me if any of them won it, and think there two sleepers and maybe even a Dark Horse in their too. Bottom line, I don't think anyone is a big favorite once it gets down to single elmination at Blue Cross and its going to be a tough battle to get there...

As TTF used to say, CHEERS!
