>>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

I love your optimism, but fear it is misplaced. I think you are too easily dismissing losing the top goal scorer in Smith and especially the best player in Saracino.

Most years, most teams lose their top scorer and their top D-man to graduation. That's the nature of the beast. If your top guys aren't seniors, then you've probably got a bad senior class.

I'm also getting Stream Not Found, and I'm at home. Firefox, Windows XP.

It is definitely possible a firewall would be blocking it. The iOS compatible stream is in the works. Give it a shot tonight once you get home to your non-corporate internet connection and see if it works.

Previously we were using UStream, whereas this is a connection to an on campus resource.

Windows 8 with IE 10 and Chrome behind a firewall, no luck.

Windows XP and IE 8 beyond the firewall, worked no problem.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

But how do you find a statistical pattern to validate or invalidate your hypothesis? Air Force is always a top 4 team, so chances are their home record is pretty good..because their overall record is. Plus, most teams (especially those with fan bases and nice rinks) tend to play better at home anyway. Combine those, and you have the formula for home success. To say that the reason for that is altitude would require you to do research on the other sports teams in Colorado, and determine if, as a state, they are more successful at home than on the road.

Anecdotally, RIT has had more success against Air Force in Colorado than they have in Blue Cross.

I was told there wouldn't be any math.

If I get some free time this week or next, I'll start looking at theirs and other teams schedule results for the last few years and see what turns up.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

I'm just scratching my head and looking for who's going to lead the team next year. I only see McGowan & Garbowsky being playing well this year. Where's the rest of the team? Schuler might be the only one that looks good.

Reid's having a great year - and he's only gonna get better next year. Adam Mitchell was having a phenomenal year until he got injured. Josh Mitchell hasn't gotten much attention on here but he's another guy who has been impressive - especially against Air Force - he's going to play a big role in this team's success in the future. Kuqali has been great this year - if Wilson can keep him and Noyes together they will be one of, if not the best, pairs in the AHA next year.

I don't think the top scorer and/or top defenseman have to be seniors. If fact I would prefer them not to be. And even if they are, good teams have obvious replacements waiting for when those player(s) who depart. I am obviously not as concerned about goal scoring as it wasn't like Smith was way out in front in goal scoring. However, do you honestly see anyone on the current roster who is going to be the next excellent D man to replace Saracino? I sure don't. And since the defense is very suspect, I am concerned about their performance next season, and not optimistic. These are not the only reason for my pessimistic view, just one of many.

Anyone know how the season ticket section works during the playoffs? So far as I can tell all the tickets are GA. Is it just a free for all?

Noyes will step into Saracino's role next year. He's having a good offensive/defensive year this year and will only get better next year. Kuqali is also having a good year. I agree that if Coach can keep Noyes and Kuqali together next year they will be the top D-pairing in the conference. Now that Kuqali and Shumway have learned the complicated RIT system I see them as being strong D-men next year. I'm not worried. Everyone always blames the 6 guys dressed as defensemen, but it's team defense that's often the issue. The whole team needs to be better on defense and that includes the guys dressed as forwards.

The email I received about it said that season ticket holders had this past Monday and Tuesday to purchase tickets. Reserved season ticket holders could get their same seat. If reserved tickets were not purchased by Tuesday at noon they would be open for purchase by anyone. If Sunday's game is necessary it said season ticket holders will have until 2pm on Sunday to purchase their seat. If not claimed by then it will be open to anyone who wants to buy a reserved seat. As far as the season ticket holder section, it's always been first come first serve with a season ticket, I assume it will be the same for the playoffs.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

It's not often that I fear a game RIT is going into, yet here I am worried about AIC. Even if we do beat them, we'd have Niagara.. and probably Air Force eventually. Back when I considered RIT a - good - team, we still couldn't get a GOAL scored on Air Force in the playoffs. I guess the reality of what this team is capable of has sunk in and people are ready for something new.

I think what this team is capable of and what they have done this season are two different things. We've seen sparks of what the team is capable of towards the end of the season; Canisius games excluded, so I'm hoping to see some more of that spark this weekend. AIC is playing very well right now. They are hot at the right time, but I'd go with RIT in a 3 game series everytime. A 1 game series would scare me.

The Polisseni center construction webcam has been upgraded significantly. It's not in it's final position, but you should no longer find the quality wanting.
Great improvement... thanks!

Hm. I'm curious if the tickets sold during the exclusive window were actually any different. From the way the email sounded, it was just early access to buy tickets, not that it was any different from other tickets, and they were priced the same. I'm a season ticket holder and would like to be in that section for the playoffs, but didn't make it to the box office in time. Curious what my options are.

Noyes might step into that role but he's not going to be as good in it. At least he hasn't shown to me that he will be as good. I do agree that Kuqali has potential and I am highly interested to see how he plays next season. I am not as impressed Shumway as you and others are and I hope I am wrong. Yeah, the defense isn't all on the D men, but even if we do accept your premise that it's completely "team defense", what makes you think that it's going to be better next year? How anyone cannot be at least somewhat concerned about the defense of the team next season is baffling.

I see zero reasons for Watson to get any starts the rest of the season or to start next season. Ruby has played by far the best in net.

He needs to stop dropping his stick, it's just embarrassing how much that's happened this year.

I don't think you'll have a problem sitting there. If you have an old season ticket from a previous game, maybe take that with you to prove you're a season ticket holder if they give you any trouble?

Noyes is already excellent. Kuqali will be the one to take Saracino's place. And like I said before, if coach can keep those two together they're going to be one of the best pairs in the AHA.

Noyes is already playing a similar role as Saracino. They don't play the same style but they're both excellent defensemen. And while you might not be able to see how good he is, thankfully Wilson does.

I got my tickets after the general sale started but they asked my name and they looked me up in the computer - not sure why.

On another note, this year they are selling Friday, Saturday and Sunday tickets all at once. If there is no Sunday game they will automatically credit your card back.

Good to know, I'll have to go back and buy a Sunday ticket. While I'm there I'll ask about the season ticket section.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

So let me see if I've got this straight...
A short while ago, RIT was "living the dream", so to speak. The Tigers in only their third fully eligible AHA/NCAA D-I season were far and away the best team in the AHA, running away with the regular season and tournament championships. They also became national darlings after pulling off two huge upsets in the NCAA East Regional in Albany to reach the 2010 Frozen Four in Detroit in front of 35,000 fans.
Many of us (myself included) were so excited for the future believing (obviously in error) that the 2010 season was something to truly build on with respect to recruiting, fan interest in the program on campus and in the greater Rochester area, and of course in the win-loss column.
Just about a year and a half ago as the college hockey world was shaken up in historic fashion, a number of folks on this board in particular wondered if it was time for RIT to seriously look into "moving up" to one of the newly re-aligned big-5 conferences and free this burgeoning program from the shackles of the lowly Atlantic Hockey. The thought there being that RIT must certainly see itself as on a track to outgrow the AHA eventually.
Meanwhile, on the ice... In 2011, the team failed to defend its conference tournament championship despite finishing in first in the regular season yet again (although not in nearly as dominating fashion as in 2010 -against an admittedly tougher conference with the additions of NU and RMU). In 2012, the team fell into a dog-fight in the standings that they barely survived with a 3rd place finish that could just as easily have been 7th if it weren't for a last minute tying goal against NU in the final game. Once again, the Tigers failed to re-live their 2010 tournament championship, once again being shut-out by AFA.
Fast forward to March, 2013 and RIT gets swept by Canisius (to complete and 0-3 season against the similarly below average Griffins) to finish in 8th place in the AHA and awaiting a first round playoff matchup against former perennial doormats AIC who at the moment are one of the winningest teams in the NCAA over the last 5 weeks or so. If there were Vegas lines on these types of things, it wouldn't be surprising to see AIC being the favorite to beat the Tigers and move on to the second round. So not only is this the first time the Tigers didn't finish in the top 3 in the league, it is also the first time it has had to play in the first round, and it could realistically end up being the first time they did not play in the second round. While I certainly hope that does not come true, I just have to say...
Way to go! Good job building on success!
I can honestly say I couldn't have even imagined anything like this even as recently as two years ago.
The program should be embarrassed, to be honest.
