So this is what shows up in my google news alert: "Future RIT Hockey Arena to be Named the Gene Polisseni Center ...
The $4.5 million commitment becomes the most recent and most significant gift in support of Tiger Power Play—The Campaign for RIT Hockey, which aims to ...

Sheesh, thanks for the spoiler. I was looking forward to the announcement tonight.

Re: >>>>> RIT Tigers 2011-2012 <<<<< Dreaming is Done, Time to ROAR

from the approx. $3Mill earlier it comes to $7.5Mill which is exactly half way
Is this enough to get shovels in the ground, or do they still need a few more major donors? I wonder if there are more lined up or if there's still a year or two worth of work to do to get the rest.

Not sure of RIT's policy on this, but from my experience working with capital projects and funding donations, it is not enough. The organizations I have worked with like to have at least 85% before breaking ground. But I admit my experience is limited.

"Gene Polisseni Center" doesn't quite roll off the tongue. I couldn't think of a good slang of shortening it other than "The Jeep" which is kind of a reach :)

Kind of a reach, but clever... and appropriate for Veteran's Day :)

I would almost think that if Madolora wasn't even allowed to practice during his suspension that Wilson might be tempted to start Watson.

Pretty sure he was able to practice with the team during the suspension.

Re: >>>>> RIT Tigers 2011-2012 <<<<< Dreaming is Done, Time to ROAR

Hmm... What if someone came along and wanted to donate $7.5 million? I'm a little surprised in a way that they'd be naming the arena at this point.

Re: >>>>> RIT Tigers 2011-2012 <<<<< Dreaming is Done, Time to ROAR

Re: >>>>> RIT Tigers 2011-2012 <<<<< Dreaming is Done, Time to ROAR

With about 50% of the fundraising done (25% of the total cost) and RIT putting in the other 50% of the cost, I would guess we are close to "shovels in the ground". The accidental press release said there was no schedule, but I'd guess that it won't be long before a date is announced. This should at least let the real architectural work begin.

Also, I suspect there might be a few more big naming opportunities remaining given the name "Gene Polisseni Center" (sure to be one of the top mis-spelled names on campus!) there might still be room to name the rink itself (not uncommon these days) or even to have an "arena" within the "center". The latter seems less likely since I don't think there will be any other functions inside the "center".

We'll see, but I'm hopeful that the first puck drop in the new arena will be in Fall 2014.

Oh ... and thanks again Mr. Golisano!

To all the haters, doubters, and naysayers after the first 5 AHA games...

Tonight was for you.

Re: >>>>> RIT Tigers 2011-2012 <<<<< Dreaming is Done, Time to ROAR

It's hard to believe that Air Force team went 4-0-1 in-conference prior to tonight. They looked uncharacteristically flat, while RIT's coordination is definitely improving over the last few weeks.

I wouldn't want to be Mercyhurst tomorrow.

Anyone know why Burt was out?

We brought it hard to AF for a good 45min of the game. Passes were connecting. The defense was on their game. Madolora was definitely on his game.

I have no real idea but the radio crew made it seem like he may have just been recovering from being a little overused while we were waiting for players to come back.

Re: >>>>> RIT Tigers 2011-2012 <<<<< Dreaming is Done, Time to ROAR

Nice win. Guys who had minimal to no role on the team last year (Potts, freshmen) making a big difference recently up front - as had to happen. Be nice to finally figure out that 5 on 3 though - they were brutal on it last year and not much better on the couple of chances they've had on it this year. Thankfully it didn't cost them that they couldn't put the game away when they had the chance.

Great to see Saracino and Madolora back. Saracino's a difference maker back there.

Strange how Air Force struggles at the Ritter (haven't won there since winning to split the conference title in 08-09), but owns the BCA.

Re: >>>>> RIT Tigers 2011-2012 <<<<< Dreaming is Done, Time to ROAR

One thing that really stands out to me is that 85-90% of the time, we're making good passing decisions with the puck. I was impressed with how patient we were in making good passes out of the zone and making sure that we tried to keep it down low in the offensive zone rather then pitching it to the point and risking an odd-man rush by AFA.

Re: >>>>> RIT Tigers 2011-2012 <<<<< Dreaming is Done, Time to ROAR

Re: >>>>> RIT Tigers 2011-2012 <<<<< Dreaming is Done, Time to ROAR

I thought RIT had a good game plan. Air Force kept collapsing all their players down low and kept RIT from getting in from of the net (which worked for the most part) and then tried to generate offense off the rush. RIT's forwards did a great job back checking, making sure there weren't too many odd man rushes, and applying some pressure form behind the Air Force forwards.

Having Saracino back, I think, was huge. He made several nice little plays and had 2 good shot blocks. Madalora was great as well and definitely provided confidence to the team.

For the power play maybe they should switch Noyes off the point on the first unit. I have yet to see him take a shot on the power play. I know they could be setting up a more featured shooter but maybe his confidence is lagging as well.

I love seeing Air Force coach Serratore ****ed off and screaming at his team at the Ritter :)

Maybe I was just hearing what I wanted to hear but after the jack*** who yells "Go Leafs Go" did someone yell "Leafs Suck"? that was awesome as well :)

Union's Achilles Center houses the Messa Rink with no other facilities inside, so it's definitely possible.

I think the power play suffered a bit with his absence.
