Ouch. That one hurt.
I don't know what the hell happened. Did the emotional high from beating Niagara expend all their energy? Did they fail to prepare for AFA because they didn't forsee having to face them?
The RIT team out there tonight was night and day different from the team on the same ice 24 hours before, and we could spend the whole offseason wondering why.
The fact that the season ended with Spivak winding up for that final chance at a goal, and snapping his stick in two as the puck dribbled forward really summed it all up perfectly, I thought. A poetic ending, if nothing else.
Going to miss a lot of these seniors..
AFA is 10-1 all time at the BCA (not to mention 3-0 with a 10-0 goal advantage vs RIT) for a reason. Wherever they manage to finish in the regular season, Serratore knows how to get these guys playing at another level in the post season.
Besides that, RIT didn't play their best. It looked a lot like last year's and 2008's loss at times out there. There's something about this matchup at this time of year that just isn't good for the Tigers. Hats off and congrats to Air Force (seriously), but I'll be rooting for BC to wipe the floor with them.
But at the end of the day, we can probably agree that this wasn't the Tigers' most stellar performance over the course of the entire season. They managed to provide us a few awesome highlights (Catamount Cup, St. Lawrence, first win vs. NU, comeback vs Bentley), but spent periods of the season making us wonder where the real Tigers were hiding while the game was going on. They needed to find a go-to first line to replace Brenner-Favot, but weren't able to until the outburst by the McReynolds-Garbowski-McGowan line Sunday and yesterday.
As far as next season goes, let's hope that line finds a replacement for McReynolds. They may be the go-to line for a couple years to come if they keep progressing. Let's also hope that they go out and find a stud defenseman or three in recruiting. Assuming Saracino comes back from injury and plays next year (he's not graduating, right?), he'll be the only true # 1 pairing kind of D-man out there. I was watching Noyes, Descoteaux, and Raibl the last few games. Without Saracino, those are our veteran stalwarts for next season. Not for nothing but Yikes. Noyes has offensive abilities that can help, but defensively his game was a bit of a struggle the last few games. He made a couple great defensive plays, but mostly to cover for his own mistakes or turnovers. The other two didn't stand out as much as that, but weren't stellar. I honestly hate to be critical of these guys, but that aspect of the Tigers' future really worries me. Let's hope they find an answer in the next 7 months.
HUGE Props to the Lady Tigers!!!
National Champs!!!
Great Job!
Best of Luck in the CHA next year!
