Re: >> RIT Tigers 2011-12 Part II: Making Some Noise at the House that Roars <<

If three teams are tied and one team played two games against the other two, while the other two faced each other four times, we will break the teams that played four times and run the tiebreaker to see who would win that series. Then take the team that won that tiebreaker and pit them against the team that they played twice to see who would garner the higher seed. Then you take the final two teams and run the tiebreaker again to see who gains the next highest seed.

This also makes no sense - seems to me like they re-sent an old document, since no team played anyone else four times (play in-pod teams 3, out of pod twice).

Can anyone say.....
Wait for it......
Mickey Mouse?

Seriously... They can't find someone at this league's office that can use Copy/Paste properly?

So not to panic or anything... but RIT still hasn't beaten Niagara in D1. With two big games coming up against them, I'm hoping this streak ends.

No panic. Niagara is always a good team but they are not as good this year as last. We didn't lose to them this year, which is an improvement over our typical result against them. I think we can split that series.

Re: >> RIT Tigers 2011-12 Part II: Making Some Noise at the House that Roars <<

so Ferris State is #1.. i guess we have something to say now to all the nay sayers.. that we beat a #1 team in the nation, even shut them out, albeit they were not #1 at the time we played them. Should help us with our strength of schedule...

The good news is that we beat the currently #1 ranked team in the country 3-0 (Ferris State was at or near the top of the rankings early in the season too). The bad news is, we've gotten beat pretty badly and shutout by Robert Morris, RPI and Air Force - among others. Consequently we aren't ranked and we didn't even get any votes this week despite being one point behind Air Force, who got 23 votes.

So the question is: are we a sleeper team, or did we just get lucky against Ferris St. and Lake Superior? I guess that's why you play the games. Though it is difficult to get a handle on what this team is this season.

I asked that question of the league as soon as the document was released and they admitted that they failed to update it for the new playoff format. The teams will be seeded 1-12 for the playoffs with no reference to pods.

Re: >> RIT Tigers 2011-12 Part II: Making Some Noise at the House that Roars <<

This is what the league sent out last week:

Tiebreaker for 2011-12

Here is the tiebreaker for two or more teams
1. Points head-to-head
2. Goal differential head-to-head
3. Conference wins
4. Goal differential – conference games
5. Goals allowed – conference games
6. Goals scored – conference games

For the first round the tiebreaker will be utilized to seed teams within the scheduling pods. Since the teams within the scheduling pods will be playing three games against each other no mini-conference tiebreakers will be used.

Teams with first round byes will be reseeded into the overall conference standings once the First Round is completed.

If three or more teams are tied and all played the same number of games against one another, you would use the tiebreaker top to bottom as a mini-conference.

If three or more team are tied and all played an uneven amount of games, we will use the tiebreaker above, but break the teams up into a mini-mini-conference as stated below.

Seems lame to me that head to head is used ahead of wins for the first tiebreaker when you take into account that many of these H2H matchups have unbalanced home/road splits. Oh well. Welcome to Atlantic Hockey I suppose.

What was really painful (and frankly embarassing) was listening to the TWSC idiots try to figure out on the replay why it was a good goal. It was obvious that after awhile someone had to get on their headset and tell them that you can glove pass to yourself.

I didn't get that impression at all. Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...=UUzjskUVOCXUa3SLAPgtT1IQ&v=sHoaXkj9zYU#t=64s At no point do they question whether gloving the puck to oneself and banging it in is legal; the only question was whether Moser got his stick on it before it went in. And you can see after they see the best-angled replay, they agree it was a good goal.

I'll have to watch it when I get home from work, but the clip I remember was one of the viewer questions when play had already resumed. It sounded to be like D'Tullio was wondering if it was only a good goal because it hit Madolora before Moser whacked it in.

Certainly not the only instance during that game one could question the duo's hockey knowledge, either.

I have to say that they have had several other moments that make me cringe a lot more than that one. Again I give em credit for showing up, but that the one thing with especially hockey people you can't fake it with us. We so used to either getting talented broadcasters who no nothing about hockey or we get explayers who have no broadcasting skills. Then there are the WITR guys, they just give all those guys a bad name :D

Tanev has been called up to the Canucks again. Their next game will be broadcast on NHL network- Saturday at 7 vs the Leafs. Which is of course inconveniently at the same time as the RIT game.

Niagara jumped into 2nd with their sweep of Canisius.

Tigers need to sweep RMU this weekend and have AFA and Mercyhurst either split a game apiece or tie both games for RIT to jump into first place.

Tigers need to sweep RMU this weekend and have AFA and Mercyhurst either split a game apiece or tie both games for RIT to jump into first place.

There are other possibilities too. If RIT takes 3 points from RMU, and Mercyhurst takes 3 from AF.

This is taken from AF's weekend preview (http://www.goairforcefalcons.com/sports/m-hockey/spec-rel/021412aab.html):

The Series vs. Mercyhurst Air Force and Mercyhurst will play for the 18th and 19th times and the series is tied at 8-8-2. The series began in 2007 when AFA joined Atlantic Hockey Earlier this season, Mercyhurst beat Air Force, 3-2, in November. AFA took two of three last season, including a sweep at Mercyhurst. Mercyhurst is one of only two teams in the league with a winning record against Air Force at Cadet Ice Arena. The Lakers hold a 5-1-1 lead in games played in Colorado. Five of the games have gone into overtime and eight of the last 10 games have either ended in a tie or have been decided by one goal (not counting empty-netters.

So, Mercyhurst has a good record at the Cadet Ice Arena, but AF is always hot this time of year. I am not really sure what way these games will go. This is probably one of the most interesting matchups this weekend.

We just need to hope RIT takes care of business this weekend.

Re: >> RIT Tigers 2011-12 Part II: Making Some Noise at the House that Roars <<

If RIT takes care of its own business, we'll get 1st round bye and a series at Ritter in the playoffs. It would be nice if we got help from some other teams to propel us into first, but we hold the 2nd seed within our own destiny.

RIT definitely has a score to settle with RMU given that RMU gave us arguably our most embarrassing defeat of the season (RPI, Union, and AFA being other contenders) and we hopefully will carry a chip on our shoulders from that. Playing 3/4 of the remaining games at Ritter is extremely advantageous.

Re: >> RIT Tigers 2011-12 Part II: Making Some Noise at the House that Roars <<

Disappointing tie with another blown 3rd period lead. Have to wonder if conditioning is an issue with the forward injuries this team has. I hadn't seen either referee that worked the game tonight yet - and I was not impressed. The ref working the corner by the gym needs to learn the difference between a stick check and a hook. The worst offender was the penalty called on RMU's Cramer (despite the broadcaster's insistence that it was "obvious"...sigh), although the second two Tiger penalties in the first period were also borderline. Then not getting a call when Burt got tripped late in the 3rd period was an obvious case of putting the whistle away (which I HATE). Pretty sure Smith got the misconduct for complaining about that non-call (Wilson confirming that in his interview and came dangerously close to calling the ref a liar on his explanation on the non-call..)

Wonder when the TW broadcast team will learn that just getting to overtime doesn't get you a point in college hockey. Second OT game in a row they've claimed that both teams got a point at the end of regulation

EDIT: Not a good night elsewhere in Atlantic Hockey so far either - Air Force up 2-0 on Mercyhurst early to try to extend the lead, although that helps the quest for a bye. Bentley beat UConn and Holy Cross took care of buisness. The good news is a win tomorrow night clinches at least a bye, since we own the tiebreak against Bentley.

From a news story on Tavev's call-up to the Canucks found here: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=388130

"The situation is reminiscent of last season, when Tanev, an undrafted find out of little-known Rochester Polytechnic Institute, came up late in the campaign and excelled during the stretch run and playoffs."

D'oh!

I understand getting RIT and RPI mixed up, but Rochester Polytechnic Institute? Ouch...
